Friday, June 16, 2017 marks our 4th annual Day of Service. The purpose of this event is as follows: 1. Inspire people to get outside and contribute to the preservation of America’s natural spaces. 2. Raise awareness about the role of service in protecting and improving our public lands. 3. Celebrate the service of Corpsmembers and other volunteers who help protect our natural treasures. 4. Make a difference. We hope to make a dent in the backlog of maintenance projects on National Park Service properties in DC, helping our partners at NPS focus on other priority projects. Youth from Corps across the country, as well as friends of the Corps movement, will participate in the Day of Service. The event will involve maintenance and improvement projects at NPS sites throughout DC. Additionally, we’ll have a chance to hear from inspiring speakers. The day before, Corpsmembers will be on Capitol Hill to educate their members of Congress on the personal and societal impact of their Corps service. You can help us celebrate the impact of service on our public lands and highlight the value of America’s Service and Conservation Corps by supporting this year’s Great Outdoors Month Day of Service! About Corps About The Corps Network Corps are locally-based organizations that engage young adults and veterans in work-based service that addresses community and environmental issues. Through their service, Corps participants – or “Corpsmembers” – gain hands-on work experience; build their résumé; earn certifications; and develop vital skills in leadership and communication. Corpsmembers often work on public lands and waters, completing projects focused on habitat restoration, trail building/maintenance, urban forestry, disaster response, and green infrastructure. Established in 1985, The Corps Network is the national association of service and conservation corps (Corps). Our 130+ Corps provide youth and veterans the opportunity to serve our country through work-based service on public lands and in rural and urban communities. The Corps Network supports Corps by advocating on their behalf, providing access to funding and projects, and offering expertise in Corps operations and programming.
