JOB OVERVIEW The Specialized Nutrition Service Area Dietitian delivers advanced practice nutrition services to the public, health professionals and the media across British Columbia. The service provides medical and preventative nutrition advice through a variety of channels including telephone, public and professional print resources, web, email and approved social media channels. Services include: comprehensive therapeutic nutrition recommendations and care planning, case management, community resource cost data information, advanced practice nutrition consultation to other care professionals, and development of relevant nutrition policy recommendations and resources for the public and health professionals. Specialized service area nutrition services include an Allergy Nutrition Service, Oncology Nutrition Service and a Pediatric Nutrition Service which includes multiple areas of specialization. This position reports to the Director, Dietitian Services. ACCOUNTABILITIES: Ensures continuous improvement of specialized nutrition service area nutrition resources so that resources remain current and evidence-based and meet client needs. Collaborates with stakeholders such as BC Children’s Hospital , BC Cancer Agency, other HLBC service areas, Dietitians of Canada Practice-based Evidence in Nutrition (PEN) team, including consultation with Federal and other provincial and Health Authority contacts, to support best practices in telehealth nutrition and identify innovative opportunities to enhance the quality of nutrition services in the province. Manages and leads a multidisciplinary service advisory committee, such as the Allergy Advisory Council, to guide the development and maintenance of an effective and appropriate provincial Nutrition Service. Develops nutrition care plans for public clients and provides coaching, referrals to community supports, nutrition recommendation and community resource cost data information. Provides advanced practice nutrition consultation to physicians and other health professionals, including the HLBC Dietitian Services staff, Nursing Services and Pharmacy Services staff to ensure the provision of evidence based, best practice medical nutrition advice and preventive health information, and nutrition counselling and coaching is provided to clients. Leads and participates in projects related to the specialized nutrition service area, including collaborating with other health agencies. Develops, implements and reports on specialized nutrition services area performance plans and continuous quality improvement activities including: program planning, indicator development, monitoring, evaluating, and provision of cost data input. This can include analysis and synthesis of data and recommendations for policy, resources, education, and practice change related to specialized nutrition service area support. Adheres to established policies, procedures and professional practice standards in the delivery of services to Dietitian Services’ clients. Provides orientation, training and opportunities for professional development to staff, students and new employees as assigned. JOB REQUIREMENTS Registered Dietitian, registered in good standing with the College of Dietitians of British Columbia. Restricted Activity A is required for the Pediatric Nutrition Service. Minimum of five (5) years recent relevant clinical, nutrition education and nutrition counselling and acute care experience including a minimum of two (2) years recent clinical nutrition practice relevant to the designated specialized nutrition services area. Experience in applied research and critical appraisal of scientific literature. Computer skills and experience with relevant software. Experience in program planning and policy development is an asset. Experience collaborating with community partners and stakeholders an asset. Experience developing practice guidelines and consumer education resources, and writing for public and health professionals an asset. Ability to prioritize and organize work in a fast paced, multi-faceted contact centre environment. Ability to communicate efficiently and effectively both verbally and in writing. Ability to talk and type simultaneously. Ability to work as a member of a team in a highly monitored work environment. Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
