BMW MOTORSPORT PARTNER UPDATE. WITTMANN CLAIMS HIS FIRST WIN OF THE SEASON. ZANDVOORT, 11TH/12TH JULY 2015. BMW Motorsport bmw-motorsport.com Sheer Driving Pleasure BMW MOTORSPORT PARTNER UPDATE. ZANDVOORT , 11TH/12TH JULY 2015 RESULTS RACE 1. POS Jens Marquardt, BMW Motorsport Director “After Saturday’s top-seven shut-out, we were able to achieve a 1-2-3-4-5 in race two, although it was much tougher on Sunday. It is obviously fantastic to see so many BMW drivers so far up the field. To see our reigning DTM champion Marco Wittmann celebrating so enthusiastically as he did last year after his win on Saturday was a particularly nice moment. His title defence has been anything but easy so far, but I am confident that this weekend will give him a massive boost. All in all, my summary of the weekend is obviously a very positive one. Everything came together for us. However, given the overall situation, we remain realistic in our evaluation of the weekend: the opposition is extremely strong – much stronger than it may have appeared here. The way the DTM is at the moment, it is coming down to mere details from one racetrack to the next. The differences in qualifying times are always extremely small. Importantly, our team spirit is very strong. We will need that over the coming months. We must continue to work hard. I would like to dedicate this success to the entire team, of whom I am very proud. Everybody worked very hard for that. We will celebrate, but we start from scratch again in Spielberg.” DRIVER COUNTRY CAR TIME/GAP WEIGHTS 1 Marco Wittmann DE Ice-Watch BMW M4 DTM 42:30.240 mins -15 kg 2 António Félix da Costa PT Red Bull BMW M4 DTM + 0.464 secs -15 kg 3 Maxime Martin BE SAMSUNG BMW M4 DTM + 2.229 -12.5 kg 4 Augusto Farfus BR Shell BMW M4 DTM + 3.768 -15 kg 5 Bruno Spengler CA BMW Bank M4 DTM + 4.514 -15 kg 6 Timo Glock DE DEUTSCHE POST BMW M4 DTM + 6.054 -15 kg 7 Tom Blomqvist GB BMW M4 DTM + 7.273 -15 kg 8 Mike Rockenfeller DE Audi + 7.837 +10 kg 9 Nico Müller CH Audi + 8.677 +5 kg 10 Pascal Wehrlein DE Mercedes + 9.041 +10 kg 11 Gary Paffett GB Mercedes + 12.217 +10 kg 12 Christian Vietoris DE Mercedes + 12.906 +10 kg 13 Mattias Ekström SE Audi + 15.738 +10 kg 14 Timo Scheider DE Audi + 17.847 +5 kg 15 Maximilian Götz DE Mercedes + 20.492 +5 kg 16 Daniel Juncadella ES Mercedes + 24.636 +10 kg 17 Lucas Auer AT Mercedes + 25.656 +7.5 kg 18 Adrien Tambay FR Audi + 30.023 +/-0 kg Jamie Green GB Audi + 8 Laps +10 kg Robert Wickens CA Mercedes + 10 Laps +10 kg Miguel Molina ES Audi + 12 Laps +5 kg Edoardo Mortara IT Audi + 19 Laps +10 kg Martin Tomczyk DE BMW M Performance Parts M4 DTM + 20 Laps -15 kg Paul di Resta GB Mercedes + 25 Laps +7.5 kg BMW MOTORSPORT PARTNER UPDATE. WITTMANN WINS HISTORIC RACE FOR BMW. ZANDVOORT , 11TH/12TH JULY 2015 RACE 1. “It feels awesome to be back on the top step of the podium. I am incredibly happy. That is not only a great success for me, but for the team and everyone at BMW Motorsport. I think this result will give us a massive boost for the rest of the season. We all needed exactly that kind of result after the problems we have had at the start Marco Wittmann of the season.” The champion is back. Marco Wittmann won Saturday’s race in Zandvoort, crossing the finish line first for the first time with the number 1 on his Ice-Watch BMW M4 DTM. This was the reigning DTM champion’s first victory for almost a year. Right from the first practice session, Wittmann coped brilliantly with the circuit nestled in the dunes on the North Sea coast, and narrowly missed out on pole position by just eight thousandths of a second in qualifying for race one. However, a lightning-quick start saw him take the lead by the first corner and, despite coming under pressure from the chasing pack, Wittmann held on to take the chequered flag. In race two, Wittmann was involved in a lot of fierce battles, but showed plenty of determination to emerge unscathed. However, the many duels did cause him to lose touch with the leaders, eventually coming home fifth. BMW Motorsport occupied the top seven positions on Saturday and the top five on Sunday, making the weekend in Zandvoort the most successful in the manufacturer’s DTM history. The BMW drivers won both races, secured both pole positions, claimed all six places on the podium and set the fastest lap in both races. RACE 2. “That was a superb weekend for BMW and me. I was delighted with the win on Saturday. I could have been on the podium on Sunday too, but unfortunately I got stuck behind my fellow BMW drivers at the start. After that I had some hard, but fair, battles with Miguel Molina. Unfortunately I damaged the car in the collision with Lucas Auer, but my pace was still good after that. However, I was just too far behind the cars in front to do Marco Wittmann anything about it.” BMW MOTORSPORT PARTNER UPDATE. ZANDVOORT , 11TH/12TH JULY 2015 BMW MOTORSPORT PARTNER UPDATE.
