Looking ahead to Year 7
Pastoral
A note from the Principal:
Dear Parents and Carers,
I would like to offer you a very warm welcome to Linton Village College.
The move to secondary school is an important milestone in your child’s
education; I am delighted that you have chosen Linton Village College for
the next stage of their learning journey.
This is an exciting time for your child as they grow into a more
independent and responsible learner. At Linton Village College we are
committed to make this important move up to secondary school as
smooth and positive as possible through an enjoyable, enriching and
informative transition experience. This process starts with our preliminary
meeting this evening and will continue into the summer term with a
detailed handover from primary colleagues and with students spending
two days at LVC, alongside an additional parents’ evening in July.
A key part of educational success is a strong and important relationship
between school and home. I look forward to meeting you all and getting
to know you over the coming months.
Best wishes,
Helena Marsh
Executive Principal

Pastoral Structure
At Linton there are five houses. These are Austen, Mandela, Newton,
Nightingale and Redgrave. Each house comprises of six forms. Every morning,
your child will begin the day with their form tutor. This is called registration
and is from 8:30am to 8:45am. During the July taster days, your child will
have the opportunity to meet their form tutor. Form tutors will also be
present on 8th July at our next Parents Meeting to meet you.
As well as form tutors, houses also have a Head of House, Lead Tutor and

FAQs
Is there a special place for Year 7’s to go during the school day?
We do not designate year areas around the college. Children often gather
naturally in their friendship groups around the indoor and outdoor social
areas.
How will my child get to school?
If your child lives within the catchment area but 3 miles from LVC, they will
receive a bus pass from the County Council. This will inform you which bus
stop and number your child should use. For children out of catchment,
parents will need to make their own arrangements. Stagecoach runs a
special service for students along the '13’ and '13A' route between
Cambridge and Haverhill. This service comes into the college grounds.
Who will my child be with in their form/tutor group?
Throughout the transition process information will be collected from our
feeder primary schools about your children. This will be used in order to
inform our six form/tutor groups. This allocation is very carefully
considered.
Is there anywhere in the school for my child to store books, PE kit etc.?
All students can 'hire' a locker. The cost is £25 and your child will keep this
locker for the whole five years at the College. These will be available in
September.
How will the school know about my child’s particular
needs/circumstances?
All the information your child's present school holds will be passed onto
the college. You must provide us with up to date contact details; home,
mobile and work telephone numbers where we can contact you during the
college day. SEN information, IEPs etc. are always discussed between
schools. We do appreciate you giving us information concerning the health
of your child. Academic needs will be discussed at meetings with Year 6
teachers. These will be with Shahla Matarazzo, Ian Farr and Trevor Parker.
Who should I contact if I have a concern about my child?
In the first instance please contact your child's tutor by email, or
telephone.

22education.

FAQs
What will happen if my child is taken ill during the school day?
If your child is taken ill during a lesson the teacher will complete a section
of the planner and your child will be sent to the Henry Morris Centre.
Trained first aiders will assess the condition of your child and if necessary
contact you on the numbers you provide so you can collect your child from
school.
What happens if my child loses something at school?
Firstly, we will ask your child to retrace their steps; looking in the
classrooms used prior to the loss being discovered. Secondly, your child
will need to check with the office staff at reception to see if the item has
been handed in. Lastly, your child will go to the lost property in the Henry
Morris Centre.
How will the College know my child’s academic ability and extracurricular interests?
Throughout the forthcoming months, the college will be communicating
with your child’s primary school to gain as much information as possible.
This communication will involve talking with both your child and their Year
6 teacher.
Is there a breakfast club and after-school club?
There is a breakfast club at the college which runs from 8am to 8.15am.
This takes place in the café. There is also an after-school club in the library
from 3:05pm – 5pm (Mon-Thurs) and 3:05pm – 4pm (Fri) in which your
child can do homework, research and study. Our librarian, Ruth Keys
supervises this facility and children are given a cup of squash and a biscuit.
How do we find out about school uniform?
Our uniform can be ordered directly from our supplier, sportswear
international or via a link on the college web site. House badges can be
purchased from the college reception once your child has been allocated a
tutor group. More information on how to order uniform will be provided in
the May parent admissions pack and information booklet that will be sent
to you.

FAQs
Will my child require money during the school day?
There is a cashless system at the college called sQuid through which
students pay for food in the canteen; you can also pay for trips and many
other items through your sQuid card. At break, the school canteen and
café sell snacks and lunches; the average cost of a school lunch is £2.50.
How can I find out about school policies, activities and events?

email address receive regular newsletters and information via
schoolcomms. You will also be able to see more detailed information
