Family Camp 2016 Volunteer Application Do you like to play games, go swimming, and make s’mores at the campfire? Do you enjoy helping others with these activities? If you answered yes to these questions, Family Camp is the volunteer opportunity for you! Family Camp is a weekend-long experience for families with children with disabilities. As a volunteer, you would assist a specific family who has one or more children, some of whom have a cognitive or physical disability, such as Autism, Cerebral Palsy, or Down Syndrome. All children of any age or ability have one thing in common; they like to have fun! Family Camp will be held August 5-7, 2016 at the Widewater Retreat Center in Liberty Center, Ohio. It is sponsored by the Diocese of Toledo; however, neither families nor volunteers need to be Catholic. People of all faiths are welcome! As a volunteer at Family Camp, you would be expected to: Be present from 12 noon Friday, August 5 through 2 pm Sunday, August 7, 2016 Attend volunteer training prior to Camp Model respectful, Christian behavior Listen and attend to the needs of your assigned family Greet families upon their arrival and help them carry baggage and settle into their rooms Throughout the weekend, participate with children one-on-one or in groups in: o Swimming, boating, fishing o Playing indoor and outdoor games o Doing arts and crafts o Taking nature hikes and wagon rides o Setting tables for meals, helping to serve food and cleaning up o Pushing wheelchairs, if needed Assist families at departure with clean-up and carrying baggage Other requirements: - Complete volunteer application and emergency medical forms - If you are over 18, fingerprinting and Protecting Youth online training - Pay $50 toward the cost of lodging and food. If you cannot afford this fee, you may request a scholarship on your application. If you are in need of volunteer hours, you will earn 30 hours of community service!
