We have an immediate opening for one full-time, Assistant Gymnastics Coach for our MAG competitive team to prepare and train individual athletes and teams for competitive events. Our goal is to further develop our competitiveness at local, provincial, national and international levels by engaging a technical expert in contemporary gymnastics to assist in the development of our athletes and coaches – from beginner to elite levels. We require an individual with recent international experience competing or coaching to top finishes at a World Cup level. In an effort to fill gaps in past Canadian efforts at elite levels, we are looking for a candidate with specific experience in Still Rings and/or Pommel Horse. This position is a fit for you if you: • Have successful international competitive gymnast experience, and at least one-year assistant coaching experience. • Are ranked as a National Champion. • Have excellent recent World Cup results. • Have the ability to motivate other athletes academically and athletically. • Have post-secondary education in Physical Education or Kinesiology. • Proven experience in, and technical knowledge of, the sport. Attend meets with athletes as required and chaperon as required. • Read the lesson plan prior to class and follow it. Provide assistance with athlete testing before and after the season begins. • Discuss any conflicts with the Head Coach and raise any questions about the lesson, progression, and/or technique after class. Communicate with parents and/or athletes as needed. • Review classes with the Head Coach (how the class went, what went well, and what needs to be emphasized and reviewed). • Evaluate student progress throughout the session. Perform scheduled tests, record the results and submit them to the Head Coach. Notify the Head Coach of any issues or important information regarding testing. • Provide technical coaching clinics to staff. • Provide assistance as needed to the Head Coach and DGS coaching teams. • Teach all classes based on the club’s positive philosophy (positive feedback and mental attitude). • Share past experiences and future visions of contemporary gymnastic trends with DGS staff. • Work as a team player with other DGS programs, coaches and staff. • Be responsible for gym set up and break down. • Willing to comply with Canadian National Coaching Certification Program requirements. • Must be able to lift and spot gymnasts up to 150 lbs.
