MikeandLindaSprengerSoccerScholarship
MikeandLindaSprengerhavebeenlong-termsupportersofsportsactivitiesinMoscow,andin
particularsoccer.Alltheirkidswereactivelyinvolvedwithyouthsports,andplayedthegameofsoccer
throughouttheirtimeasyouthinMoscow.Mikecoachedmanyteamsformanyyears,andLindaserved
sixyearsontheMoscowUnitedBoard,andwasteammanagerforseveralteams.Inaddition,they
haveprovidedfinancialsupportasindividualsandthroughSprengerConstruction.Theirdedicationto
soccerandtheirdesiretoseeallplayersbecometheirverybest,hasinspiredustocreatetheMikeand
LindaSprengerSoccerScholarship.Thescholarshipisnotawardedbasedonfinancialneed,butasa
tributetoMikeandLinda’sbeliefinhardwork,dedication,strongcharacter,andcommunityexcellence.
TheAward
Theintentoftheseawardsistoenableplayerstoachievehigherlevelsofexcellenceinsoccer
whilereducingfinancialstrain.
• Theawardswillconsistof100%ofClubregistrationplusIYSAfees.Atotaloftwoawardswillbe
giveneachyearatthediscretionoftheBoard.OnewillbeawardedintheU14andunderage
group,andonewillbeawardedinthehighschoolagegroup(U15andhigher).Ifitisdeemedby
thecommitteethattherearenoqualifiedapplicants,theBoardmayexerciseitsrightnotto
awardascholarship,orawardasecondscholarship,attheirdiscretion,toadeservingrecipient
ofthesameagecategory.
• Theawardisnotrenewable;infact,recipientsarenoteligibletowinbacktobackawards.
• AwardsareappliedtowardregistrationfeesatMUSCorFusion,andareonlypayabletoMUSC.
• AllClubplayersareeligibletoapplyforthescholarships.
• AwardsarenottransferabletootherClubs,anddonotfollowplayersiftheyshouldchooseto
departfromMUSC.IfaplayerchoosestoleavetheClubafterreceivingascholarshipaward,
thescholarshipwillbeconsideredforfeited,and100%offeeswillberequiredinorderto
releasetheplayer’scard.Scholarshipmonieswillnotbeappliedtothistotal.
• Awardsareatnotimeconsideredthe“property”oftherecipient,butinstead,ameansto
reducethefinancialobligationtotheClub.
Criteriatoreceivescholarship
Anapplicantmustbe:
• AnactivememberofMUSCorFusion.
• Activeinthelocalsoccercommunity,andprovideevidenceinanessay(seebelow).
• HaveaminimumGPAof3.0(orhavedisplayedequivalentacademicsuccess).
• Notservinganyplayer,academic,orlegalsuspension(nocriminalrecord).
• IngoodfinancialstandingwiththeClubandtheirteam.Allclubandteamaccounts
mustbepaidorinnotinarrears.Goodfinancialstandingisexpectedthroughoutthe
awardperiodorthescholarshipcanberevoked.

• Anacademictranscript,letterfromtheschool(onletterhead),orlastthreereportcards
showingnecessaryacademicqualification.
• Twolettersofreference,onebeingfromapreviouscoachorgroupleader(ofanysport
orclub).
• AnessaydescribinghowtheapplicantexemplifiesthequalitiestheSprengersbrought
toMUSC.
• Loveandpassionforthegame.o Commitmenttoteam.o Dedicationto
excellenceonthefield.
• Pursuanceofsocceridealsandaspirationswithintegrity,resolution,andselfdisciplineinbothashorttermandlongtermmanner.
• Competitivespirit.
• Involvementinsoccercommunity.
• Qualityofcharacter.

Eachyear,theMUSCPresidentwillappointathree-personreviewcommittee.
Thecommitteewillreviewallapplicationsandmaychoosetointerviewtopcandidates
topresentasfinalrecommendationstobeapprovedandselectedbytheBoard.All
Boarddecisionsarefinal,withnoappealprocess.
ApplicationsaredueJanuary15andJuly15fortwoscholarshipseach.
Applicantswhofailtoreceivetheawardcanreapplythefollowingseason.
AnyplayerwhoisafamilymembertoaBoardmembermaystillapply,buttheBoard
memberwillnotbepartoftheselectionprocess.Inthatoccurrence,alternative
committeememberswillbeappointedbytheClubPresident.Familymembersof
applicantswillnotbeallowedtoserveontheselectioncommittee;community
membersfromoutsidetheClubmayalsoserveascommitteemembersifitisdeemed
appropriatebytheMUSCPresident.
