Butterfly Rainforest & Butterfly Exhibits
Stroll through this screened, outdoor enclosure with
tropical plants and hundreds of living butterflies. View
thousands of Lepidoptera species on the “Wall of Wings”
and see scientists working in the Butterfly Rearing Lab
and research labs.
Florida Fossils: Evolution of Life & Land
Experience the last 65 million years of Florida’s history
and walk through time beginning with the Eocene, when
the state was underwater, to the Pleistocene, when the
first humans arrived 14,000 years ago. View more than
500 fossils!
Northwest Florida: Waterways and Wildlife
Follow water as it flows through the unique environments
of northwest Florida, the most biodiverse region of the state.
Explore a hardwood hammock featuring a life-size limestone
cave, a seepage bog with carnivorous plants, a Native
American trading scene and more.
South Florida People & Environments
This exhibit celebrates the story of native people in South
Florida and the environments that supported them. Walk
along a boardwalk through a mangrove forest, travel
underwater to view larger-than-life marine creatures,
visit the house of a Calusa leader and more.
Exploring Our World
Learn about current Museum and UF research initiatives in
the science, technology, engineering and math fields, as well
as the Museum’s more than 100-year history through videos,
photographs and discovery drawers featuring objects from
its world-class collections.
Fossil Plant Garden
This exhibit is landscaped with modern species of
plants whose ancestors lived millions of years ago
and are preserved as fossils around the world.
Florida Wildflower & Butterfly Garden
This outdoor demonstration garden showcases Florida’s
native wildflowers and their importance as host and nectar
plants for Florida’s native butterflies.
Our Energy Future
Explore hands-on activities about energy consumption and
conservation. Discover how much energy we use daily and
how individual behaviors can make a difference. Learn about
renewable energy and its future potential for Florida.
Frogs! A Chorus of Colors | Jan. 28-Sept. 4, 2017
Welcome to the colorful world of anurans—commonly known as frogs
and toads. This interactive exhibition features fascinating living frogs,
each adapted ingeniously for survival in locations around the world.
Experience some of the most visually stunning, vocally pleasing and
remarkably adaptable life forms on earth. For people who have never
thought of frogs as beautiful, this exhibit may change minds. Search
for hidden frogs, activate calls and perform a virtual dissection in
this hands-on, minds-on adventure allowing visitors to discover the
important role frogs play—including serving as indicators of the health
of our environment.
Rare, Beautiful & Fascinating:
100 Years @FloridaMuseum | Sept. 23, 2017-Jan. 7, 2018
In 2017, the Florida Museum marks its 100th anniversary as the state’s
official natural history museum. This celebratory exhibition explores
the key role museum collections play in telling the story of life on Earth.
From rare, ancient treasures to cutting-edge technologies, the exhibit
showcases the Museum’s 21 collections and research areas that address
topics from extinction to biodiversity. Visitors may interact with scientists
working in the prep lab from a different collection each week, explore
the institution’s rich history and learn how the Museum has affected the
lives of students, volunteers, employees and donors. Objects from the
Museum’s 40 million specimens also reveal the stories of everything
from coral reefs to human health to prehistoric life. Discover ways
science has changed over time, and how the Florida Museum remains
committed to addressing future critical world issues, including
biodiversity, climate change, invasive species and more.
Discovery Room
Encourage your child’s curiosity and wonder in the ever-changing
hands-on Discovery Room! View preserved specimens from Museum
collections and a variety of science resources that provide many
opportunities for families to learn about the world together.
An all new permanent Discovery Zone opens July 17, 2017!
West Gallery Exhibits
Enjoy smaller rotating exhibits featuring photography and other
art with natural history themes. Ask at the front desk or check the

100th Anniversary Presentation and Gala | April 21-22, 2017
As part of the 100th Anniversary weekend, enjoy a presentation by Joel
Sartore, National Geographic photographer, on Friday, April 21. Then, on
Saturday, April 22, celebrate the Florida Museum’s 100-year anniversary
as the state museum with dinner, live entertainment and dancing.
ButterflyFest | Oct. 8, 2017
Explore the lives of native pollinators at this annual fall event.
The fun-for-all-ages festival investigates butterfly gardening,
conservation and backyard wildlife through hands-on activities.
Enjoy butterfly releases, a Pollinator Parade and one of the area’s
largest butterfly-friendly plant sales!
