Swim Team Wish List
each athlete should have
a couple of fitting suits - at least one teamsuit = green, to be worn for meets only
a couple pair of goggles - they do break, and I do not have parts or loners
a couple of caps
a drink bottle that is marked and filled fresh daily
a towel - or 3 for meets
a sweat shirt for meets
a bag to carry it all
But wait, there is more… he must be dreaming
a pair of fins that fit… not that they will grow into, but will not fall off now
hand paddles - there are millions
a kick board - also obviously marked and the correct size
pull bouy
a forward facing snorkel
any stroke specific equipment, for example dolphin kick fin, breaststroke kick fins
What the Coaches want:
underwater mirrors - so the kids can truly visualize their strokes
an underwater platformfor the coaches to teach from… body manipulation is huge
and our pool is not designed as a teaching pool, so we must modify it.
an underwater video systemto record and review their technique
One Last Thing
An outdoor swimming pool or a wealthy benefactor that can
provide one - I amgoing to keep asking until one is
available.
Please order any needed
equipment that you can
from swimoutlet.com.
Their prices seem
competitive and our
organizations receives an
8% return to help defray
costs.
Successful Sports Parent
• Do as I say, not as I do. You may have heard me at a water polo game.
• #1 goal of kids – to have fun. Otherwise they are likely doing it for you!
• Your Do’s… support, love, smile, give/make them responsible, help make
it all fun, and volunteer
• Your Don’ts… criticize, critique immediately afterwards, allow a sport to
dominate a child’s life, exert pressure, treat them differently dependent
upon success, make insulting comments about – any athlete, coach,
parent, official, and do not coach – that’s why we are here
• “Sports Do not Build Character, They Reveal it.” John Wooden
USSA Code of Conduct… the 10 other
commandments
• Thou shall not impose thy ambitions on thy child
• Thou shall be supportive no matter what
• Thou shall not coach thy child
• Thou shall only have positive thinks to say at a competition
• Thou shall acknowledge thy child’s fears
• Thou shall not criticize officials
• Thou shall honor thy child’s coach
• Thou shall be loyal and supportive of thy team
• Thy Child shall have goals besides winning
• Thou shall not expect thy child to become an Olympian
