#1 INTEGER
• A natural number, the opposite of a natural
number, or zero. Any number from the set of
numbers represented by {…, –3, –2, –1, 0, 1, 2, 3, …}.
#2 FACTOR
An integer that divides into another
integer exactly is called a factor.

A multiple is the result of multiplying a

(parentheses and brackets).

4) Add or subtract from left to right.
#5 ABSOLUTE VALUE
• A number’s distance from zero on the
number line. It is written |x| and is read “the
absolute value of x.”

• A letter or symbol used to represent any
number.
#7 COEFFICIENT
• The number that is in front of the variable.
#8 EXPONENT
• The power to which a number or expression
is raised.
#9 LIKE TERMS
• Terms that contain the same variables that
are raised to the same powers (e.g., 𝟒𝒙𝟑
and 𝟏𝟐𝒙𝟑 ).
#10 FACTOR-(VERB)
• To express a number, term, or polynomial as
the product of two or more factors.
• In English: to break up a number, term or
polynomial into parts that can be multiplied
together to get the original number, term or
polynomial.
#11 RATIONAL EXPRESSION
• An expression that can be written as a
polynomial divided by a polynomial.
• An expression that is the ratio of 2
polynomials.
# 12 EXPRESSION
• A mathematical phrase that includes
operations, numbers, and/or variables.
Does not have an = sign or any
inequality sign.
#13 EQUATION
• A mathematical statement or
sentence that says one expression or
quantity is equal to another. Will
always have an equal sign.
#14: ORDERED PAIR
A pair of numbers, written as (x, y),
used to locate a point on a coordinate plane.
#15 COORDINATE PLANE
Plane formed by perpendicular number lines.
The horizontal number line is the x-axis, and
the vertical number line is the y-axis.
#16 ORIGIN
The point where the axes meet is called the
origin and it has coordinates (0, 0).
If we get rid of the x and 3, we are
left with 5.
