Launch the Command View TL installer by right-clicking on the executable and selecting Run as Administrator. The Windows Management Instrumentation service must be started before installation or uninstallation of Command View TL. No changes are required to remotely browse to a library or management station. Install the Command View for Tape Libraries upgrade CAUTION: Command View TL 3.0.00 and later cannot upgrade any libraries with i240 or older Interface Manager firmware. Upgrade to 2.8.00, then install the bundle, and then install Command View TL 3.0.00 to 3.5.00. Command View 3.6.00 can only be upgraded from 3.5.00, Command View 3.8.00 can only be upgraded from 3.6.00 or later, and Command View 3.9.02 can only be updated from Command View 3.7.00 or later. If you are upgrading from a Command View TL version earlier than 2.0.00 (or Command View ESL prior to version 1.5), follow this upgrade path: 2.32 —> 2.8.00 —> 3.5.00 —> 3.6.00 —> 3.8.00 —> 3.9.02. Command View TL 3.9.02 upgrade is supported from versions 3.7.00 or later. All previous settings (database, device list, support tickets, proxy settings and so forth) are migrated during the upgrade. Upgrade Adobe Flash player to a newer version. For information on CVTL installation, see “Installation instructions” (page 7). NOTE: If Command View TL is uninstalled using add remove programs and the data base and files were retained, install the same version of Command View TL before migration. To install Command View TL, you must uninstall the database and all files. Installing the Interface Manager upgrade If upgrading your Interface Manager from an I231 or lower release, ensure that the FTP server on the Interface Manager is clear of all extra files. CAUTION: Failure to clear these files may result in damage to the library and the need for service intervention. 1. 2. 8 If you have a firewall that prevents FTP access, disable the firewall. Use FTP to connect to the Interface Manager: 1. Open a command shell on any PC connected to the LAN. 2. Enter the command ftp ipaddress, where ipaddress is the IP address of the Interface Manager card. 3. Log in with the user name ftp and no password. Installation instructions 3. Run del <filename> for each file to delete. CAUTION: HP recommends that an HP Service engineer perform any upgrade of your Interface Manager from an I2XX or lower release. The HP Service engineer will upgrade to version I232 using CVTL 2.3.20 and the corresponding firmware bundle using the ESL c01464098 or EML c01463974 engineering document using CVTL 2.3.20. After the library is an I232 and the corresponding bundles, Command View TL can be updated to 2.8.00. The library can then be downloaded to I274. I232 and I240 cannot be upgraded with Command View TL 3.0.00 and above. Use advisory ESL-e c01464098 or EML c01463974 to upgrade directly to I232 and CVTL 2.8.00 from any revision less than I232. Then, perform the upgrade to I270 using CVTL 2.8.00. CAUTION: Customers upgrading from HP StorageWorks ESL E-Series library firmware 6.20 to 6.22 or higher via Interface Manager or Command View TL in an HP StorageWorks ESL E-Series library will encounter the following message: “Interface Manager (IM) unable to verify whether firmware update completed or not, please check the device.” Wait until the library Operator Control Panel indicates the upgrade is complete. This will take about 20 minutes. The upgrade will complete with no issues. This error will not occur once the firmware is fully installed in the library. Failure to wait may result in damage to the library and the need for service intervention. CAUTION: ESL E-Series libraries that have had the cabinet controller or cabinet controller smart media/daughter board replaced without having library defaults reset afterwards, must restore library defaults prior to upgrading to 7.X or higher firmware (first included in the 2.4 or higher firmware bundle). If the history of the library is unknown, it is recommended that library defaults be reset prior to loading 7.0 to be safe. Library defaults are different than restoring the Interface Manager defaults; restoring library defaults must be done from the front panel (Operator Control Panel) of the library in the Setup menu. CAUTION: Customers upgrading from HP EML libraries from below 1200 need to go to 1200 first. Secondly if the firmware is below 1407 then they need to upgrade to 1407 next. Then they can upgrade to the latest firmware. EML libraries might not show the latest revision is loaded until the IFC is also rebooted if no host commands were sent to the library after the upgrade. This configuration data includes, but is not limited to: • Management Station information • Library settings • Support contact information • Interface Manager settings • Partition settings (if configured) • Secure Manager settings (if configured) • Network settings • SNMP settings • License settings Migrations are increasingly complicated and HP strongly recommends that any migration be performed by an HP Service engineer using ESL c01473045 and EML c01439962 migration documents. All migrations to the I270 and 2.8.00 code bundle must be preceded by upgrade to the I232 and 2.3.0 code bundle (migration instructions are included in the readme file for I232). CAUTION: Upgrading to 2.x is not supported for ESL9000 libraries. These libraries can be fully managed using Command View for Tape Libraries 2.x. but will not accept the I200 or higher Interface Manager code. ESL9000 libraries will work only with version I182 Interface Manager code and CVTL 2.6.00. Installation instructions 9 Install the Interface Manager I274 release and 3.9.00 firmware bundle (EML and ESL E-Series Libraries) NOTE: You must be at the I232 and 2.32 firmware bundle or higher before proceeding with the upgrades to the I274 and 3.7.00 bundle. If at a revision lower than I232 or 2.32 firmware bundle first migrate to I232 and 2.32 firmware bundle to proceed. You must be at i250 and the 2.50 Frimware Bundle or above to download with Command View TL 3.0.00 or later. NOTE: If the EML library is below 1200 download 1200 first. Then if the EML library is below 1407 download 1407 first. Otherwise the RLC might need to be replaced. Three EML library versions are included in the latest firmware bundle. 1. 2. 3. Save the existing configuration to a safe location before performing any Interface Manager upgrade. Download and unpack the 3.9.00 EML or ESL E-Series firmware bundle and Interface Manager firmware I274 to the Command View for Tape Libraries client (for example, the desktop or laptop). Verify that the library, interface controller, drive (optional), and the Interface Manager firmware files are downloaded. If your Interface Manager is at I232 or later, do not perform this step. Continue at the next step. This step tests the FTP session, and verifies that it can locate the files residing in the Interface Manager that need to be deleted. a. Create a text file with Notepad or WordPad and save it at test.txt. b. FTP to the Interface Manager as anonymous with no password. c. Enter put test.txt or copy the test.txt file to the Interface Manager. d. The ls, nlist, or dir command should indicate thattest.txt was just uploaded. If test.txt is not seen, then disable the firewall. FTP commands may not work correctly with certain firewalls (for example, Symantec Endpoint in Windows XP). e. Execute an ls, nlist, or dir command to verify that the directory does not have any entries. If it does, use the del <filename> command until all other files are removed. This will free up compact flash (CF) memory used by support tickets or saved configurations. If there is not enough CF memory, the Interface Manager migration might fail. NOTE: If you cannot see test.txt, stop downloading at this point or have a compact flash ready in case the download fails. 4. 5. 6. Use Command View for Tape Libraries to update the Interface Manager firmware. Follow the upgrade instructions to migrate directly to I274. Use Command View for Tape Libraries to upgrade: • to 5.9.63 firmware for the 2GB Fibre Channel Interface Controllers • to 5.9.77 firmware for the 4Gb Fibre Channel Interface Controllers Use Command View for Tape Libraries to upgrade ESL G3, ESL E-Series, EML E-Series library firmware. If the EML E-Series is below 1200, upgrade to 1200. If the EML E-Series library is below 1407, upgrade to 1407. The EML library firmware can now be update to the newer firmware. 7. 8. 9. Verify that all of the drives are empty. Upgrade the drive firmware, if the drive firmware in the 3.9.00 bundle is newer than the drive firmware that is in your drives. Save the new configuration to a safe location after performing any Interface Manager upgrade. Downgrading to previous releases Downgrading your Interface Manager to a previous release requires some special considerations: 10 Installation instructions IMPORTANT: Remove any hardware that is not supported by the firmware release you are downgrading to. Failure to do so can cause the library to become inoperable. • Multiple versions of the Command View for Tape Libraries software cannot be installed on the same computer at the same time. To use an older release of Command View for Tape Libraries, uninstall the current version before installing the older version. • After performing the downgrade, you will need to restore system defaults through the restore system defaultscommand in the command line interface or through the Restore Factory Defaults page on the Support tab in Command View for Tape Libraries. CAUTION: • All of your custom configuration information will be lost. If you have previously saved a configuration at the older release, you can easily restore this configuration after you have downgraded your Interface Manager through the restore system configcommand in the command line interface or through the Save / Restore page on the Configuration tab in Command View for Tape Libraries. Workarounds Data verification test fails on ESL G3 and MSL6480 libraries Symptom :Data verification test fails on ESL G3 and MSL6480 libraries, if the primary ports are connected. Communication over primary fibre channel ports may cause the LUN to reset. Workaround : 1. Stop the Data verification engine from Command View TL . 2. Disconnect the primary ports (FC/SAS) for all the drives listed in the Data Verification partition. 3. Remove and recreate the Data Verification partition. NOTE: When the Data Verification test is run on the partitioned drives, the ESL G3 library generates the following RAS event for the drives in the Data Verification:Internal Drive Network connectivity problem. If you cannot recreate the partitions then, close the event and rerun the test. Found in version: 3.9.02 and later Data Verification Test fails on ESL G3 if a Service personnel is logged on to the library GUI using a Service login Symptom: Workarounds 13 Data Verification Test (DVT) fails if a Service personnel is logged into the ESL G3 library GUI using the Service login. When a Service user is logged in to the ESL G3 library, CVTL is unable to login to the library using Web Services (WS) which prevents DV test commands like starting and stopping the DV service, retrieving media information, moving media to or from drives, or retrieving partition details. Workaround: Stop the CVTL DV service before a Service personnel logs in using the Service login and password. Improper test result message is displayed after running DV test due to the installation of "CTAF” Symptom: On running DV, the test fails and the test result is displayed is “Unknown Internal Error”. The issue is due to the installation of the "CTAF"software. The software sets the path variable as PERL5LIB in system's environment. Due to this issue, Perl in DV is unable to locate a few libraries as the path variable redirects it to look for libraries in different paths. Workaround: Make sure CTAF (or any software which changes PERL5LIB variable) does not co-exist with CVTL while running DV. Found in version: 3.9.02 and later Application log red event (PostGre): FATAL: "database "cvtl_libdb" does not exist" Symptom: The application log has a red event (PostGre): FATAL: "database "cvtl_libdb" does not exist" with Windows 2008r2. This occurs when CVTL is uninstalled and reinstalled, and when the server is rebootedTh or the services and CVTL application are not being stopped in the proper order. Workaround: Ignore issues unless CVTL has GUI issues. Found in version: 3.0.00 and later Qstar software error message: "DV Partition not found" Symptom: The Qstar application does not provide tools to create DV partition. Workaround: Verify that Data Verification partition is created for your library in the CVTL GUI. Found in version: 3.9.00 and later Data Verification tests displays Test Incomplete status Symptom: Data Verification (DV) tests displays Test Incomplete status after one of the following occurs: the DV partition is modified, tape drives are added, removed, or replaced in a tape library, or the library or drives are rebooted or taken offline Workaround: In Command View TL’s DV screen, click the stop button for the affected library to stop the DV engine. Remove any media from drives assigned to the DV partition, using Command View TL, the library’s management interface, or other application. Then, on the DV screen, click the start button for the affected library. This will re-scan the slots and drives assigned to the DV partition and restart the DV engine. Found in version: 3.7.00 and later Data verification test was not able to complete for the currently selected tape cartridge Symptom: Due to intermittent network connection problems, the data verification test was not able to complete for the currently selected tape cartridge. 14 Workarounds Workaround: • Before starting Full data verification tests, ensure that applications which need extensive network bandwidth are not running at the same time. • Try to verify the media at a different time when the network traffic may be lower. • If the error persists on a Full test, retry the test in Quick/Intermediate test mode. For more information, see Data verification issues section in Troubleshooting chapter of HP StoreEver Interface Manager and Command View for Tape Libraries Version 3.9.00 User Guide. Found in version: 3.7.00 and later Data verification job in an incomplete state Symptom: If the barcode is longer than eight characters, during data verification the barcode gets truncated due to which the cartridge gets stuck in the drive. Workaround: NOTE: HP tape libraries and associated application software like HP CVTL, HP Data Protector, and other backup applications support eight character bar code labels. HP recommends the usage of eight character bar code labels for compatibility with other libraries and other applications. Do not use barcode characters with length greater than 12 characters while using Data Verification or Tape Assure Advanced functionalities/features. To resolve this issue, perform the following: • Unload the cartridge from the drive and move the cartridge to a user partition. • Restart the data verification engine. Found in version: 3.8.00 Consecutive Data Verification results are marked with Test Incomplete status Symptom: When Data Verification is performed using drive(s) which are not in a responsive state, the Data Verification results are displayed as Test Incomplete. Workaround: This issue may be observed with Data Verification on an ESL G3 library. To resolve this issue, take note of the Overall System Status display on the ESL G3 Library Management Console (LMC) or front panel and make sure that all subsystems have a green (Good) status. If any subsystems have a yellow (Warning) or red (Critical) status, please follow the respective RAS resolution steps to resolve those issues. After resolving any outstanding RAS events, take note of the Monitor > Drives menu and make sure that all drives within the Data Verification partition are in a good state. If the issue persists, contact HP support. It may seem like blocks of events are missing, however this is not necessarily the case. Informational, warning, and critical events are all generated by the device at different rates. Found in version: 2.0 (and above) and 1.82 (port 18098 is not required) Removing drives or Interface Controllers leave the library in a Critical state Symptom: If you remove any drives or Interface Controllers, the removed drives and Interface Controllers show up in a Critical state. The status details complain about not being able to communicate with the component. No Host Access (Secure Manager) mapping operations can be performed due to the Critical status. Workaround: Unfortunately, the only workaround is to restore to system defaults. You will have to re-enter any Host Access (Secure Manager) mapping information and Interface Controller connection properties. Found in version: 2.0 (and above) Cannot replace an E2400FC-4G Interface Controller with an E2400FC Symptom: When using the Hardware Replacement Wizard in Command View for Tape Libraries or the "replace interface" command in the command line interface, an E2400FC Interface Controller does not show up as a valid replacement for an E2400FC-4G Interface Controller configured for 4gbps port speeds. Workaround: The hardware replacement feature on the Interface Manager does not display Interface Controllers that do not support the previous port speed as a valid replacement. If your E2400FC-4G Interface Controller is configured for 4gbps port speeds, you will have to replace it with another E2400FC-4G Interface Controller. Found in version: 2.0 (and above) Un-mapped Host/HBA names lost after a migration to 2.0 Symptom: The custom Host/HBA names for un-mapped hosts entered in previous releases are lost when migrating to 2.0. Found in version: All versions since 1.5.05 General considerations and problems related to the save and restore system configuration feature Symptom: The save and restore system configuration features allow you to backup the configuration of the Interface Manager and Interface Controllers in your library. HP recommends that you do not attempt to restore older configurations after certain changes have been made: • Firmware updates on the Interface Manager or any of the Interface Controllers • Physical replacement of any of the Interface Controllers Workaround: After any of the above operations have been performed, HP recommends saving new configurations which you can restore to at a later date. Found in version: 2.0 (and above) Cannot change load port configuration after creating partitions Symptom: When partitions are defined for an ESL E-Series or EML E-Series library, the ability to modify the load port configuration from the front panel is disabled. Workaround: Load port configuration cannot be modified when partitions are defined. If you wish to modify the load port configuration, use Command View for Tape Libraries to remove all of your partitions. The ability to modify the load port configuration should be enabled. If not, please add back a single partition and then immediately remove it. Load port configuration from the front panel should then be enabled. Found in version: 2.0 (and above) The DHCP server, on a private LAN, can cause network configuration issues Symptom: All of the network ports, except the one labeled "NETWORK," support a private LAN used to communicate with the interfaces. This private network has a DHCP server to server up IP configurations to the interfaces. If this network is connected to a LAN, it will attempt to serve up IP configurations to DHCP clients on the LAN, potentially causing issues for those clients. The Interface Manager will also attempt to manager other Interface Controllers that it finds on the LAN. Workaround: Make sure that only the "NETWORK" port on the Interface Manager is plugged into the public LAN. Found in version: All versions Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 1.6 problems Symptom: While running JRE 1.6.23 and lower versions and trying to open a dialog window, the user interface may freeze indefinitely. This can happen randomly on any dialog window. Workaround: Remove JRE 1.6 or lower and install JRE 1.5 or JRE 1.6.24. 1. Download JRE 1.5 (also called “5.0) from http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/index_jdk5.jsp 2. Use the appropriate .exe file and follow the installation instructions provided on the website to install JRE 1.5. 3. Restart your browser. Found in version: 2.4. Workarounds 29 Error 1722 when trying to install Java from the management station Symptom: When a client tries to install the Java Runtime Environment provided by the Management Station the installer complains about "Error 1722". The installation fails and Command View for Tape Libraries cannot be loaded. Workaround: There are two known workarounds: 1. When presented with the "Plugin Info" page while loading Command View for Tape Libraries, select the option "Download and install from the Sun website" to install Java on the client from the Internet instead of from the Management Station. 2. Attempt to install Java on the client again using the same method. This will detect the previous installation attempt and ask if you want to remove or repair the previous installation - remove it. Install the following patch on the client (for Windows XP systems): http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;814995 The client can then proceed with installing Java from the Management Station. Found in version: All 1.x and 2.x versions Licenses show up in the 'Un-managed Licenses' section of the License Key Summary tab Symptom: After installing a license for one of your managed libraries, the License Key Summary tab places the license in the 'Un-managed Licenses' section. Workaround: Navigate to the Library Selection tab and remove the library that is tied to the license and then add the library back in. Found in version: All 2.x versions NTP synchronization fails when using Windows Domain Controller as NTP server Symptom: NTP synchronization of the library clocks fails when using a Windows Domain Controller (Windows Server 2003 and 2008) as the NTP server. Workaround: Set up the NTP server from the command line interface instead of the Command View TL user interface. Found in version: I250 Corrupt alerts will not display in Command View for Tape Libraries due to a parsing error Symptom: If a corrupt alert is logged into Interface Manager alerts then Command View for Tape Libraries will not be able to parse the alert log. Workaround: Save the current configuration, reset to the default, then restore the saved configuration. Alternatively, contact HP Service & Support and ask that the Clean Alerts bundle be installed. Found in version: All The EML E-Series Tape Library broadcast address must be 0.0.0.0; otherwise, it can cause undesired network traffic on the external network Symptom: The broadcast address for ethernet 0 on the Interface Manager on an EML E-Series Tape Library, if different from 0.0.0.0, may cause undesired network traffic. In this case, the IP address for the EML library was set to 10.X.X.X (Class A network) with subnet mask 255.255.255.0; however, the broadcast address was set to 10.255.255.255, which will result in broadcasting the whole 10.X.X.X network. Workaround: Contact HP Service & Support and ask that the Fix Broadcast Address firmware bundle be installed using SAW article c01675969 if at i172 or lower. For i273 and above the Fix Broadcast Address firmware bundle was included in the build. 1. Telnet to the IM as cliadmin and <cliadmin password>. 2. Enter cpe. The following lines will display: Bundle ID: 2454873.09444 30 Workarounds Description: This bundle will ensure that the correct broadcast address has been applied to the network information managed object. Enter bundle number to run or 'q' to quit: 3. Type 2454873.09444 and press Enter. The bundle will indicate to the user if the operation was successful. If so, it instructs the user to reboot the IM. 4. Type reboot mgmt. Found in version: All Command View for Tape Libraries reports failure while disabling encryption with a Secure Key Manager (SKM) Symptom: An error is reported when removing a library from SKM key management, this can potentially leave LTO drives in encryption mode. Workaround: To clear this configuration the user will need to re-enroll the library for SKM encryption key management and verify the library is in a green state. Then, rerun the Encryption Wizard to switch to Backup Software key management. 1. Reboot the Interface Manager card using the command line interface or Command View TL user interface. 2. Run the Command View Encryption Key Management wizard and set it back to HP StorageWorks Secure Key Manager. 3. Run the Command View Encryption Key Management wizard again and select Backup Software. This will clearly configure all the drives to non-encryption mode. Found in version: 2.6.00 Command View TL sometimes fails to set advance LTO drives' host port Fibre connections Symptoms: When setting up the drive hosts ports mode or speed under the following conditions, the ESL E-Series library can return a Busy status to the Interface Manager, causing the operation to fail. This happens when the following conditions occur: • Polling from more than 20 hosts at a time • Having the library doing an inventory or moving • Experiencing 200 or more hosts in a zone to log in to a given drive This issue occurs most often when selecting Apply Settings to All Drives. It has also been seen with the CLI commands set drive hostport all mode nport|direct and set drive hostport all speed 2|4|8. Workaround: Use the CLI to set up the drive hosts ports mode and speed, one at a time. If a command fails, send it more than one time until the command gets through to the library without the library returning a Busy status. Use the following commands to set up the drives one at a time: set drive hostport mode drive_number nport set drive hostport speed drive_number 2|4|8 If you used the [all] option for following CLI commands: set drive hostport all mode nport|direct and set drive hostport all speed 2|4|8, the output of the command will show the drives that did not configure; those drives will need to be set one at a time. Found in version: 2.6.00 Workarounds 31 TapeAssure is not collecting ticket information when Command View TL 2.5.00 and a local user account was used then upgraded to 2.6.00 or later. Symptoms: After Command View TL is upgraded from 2.5.00 to 2.6.00 or a later version, when the TapeAssure service restarts it does not connect to the database. This may be because it was still using the local Command View TL user account. Workaround: 1. From the HP StorageWorks Command View TL launcher tab, right-click on the library. Make sure connectivity passes. If it does not pass connectivity, closing Command View and restarting the Command View TL service might fix the issue. It must pass connectivity for the TapeAssure data to get to the Command View server. The TapeAssure release notes for the firmware have the ports that should be open in the firewall. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. Close Command View TL. Right-click My Computer and select Manage. In the Computer Management window, click Services and Applications, and then select Services. Select the Command View TL service, and then click Stop. Scroll down and select the HP CVTL Database service or the Postgre SQL Database Server service, and click Stop if necessary. NOTE: The service name is HP CVTL Database in Command View TL 2.6.00 and later versions. If it is installed with 2.5.00 and then upgraded, the service is named Postgre SQL Database Server 8.3. 7. Right-click on the HP CVTL Database service or Postgre SQL Database Server service and select Properties. In the Properties dialog, select the Log On tab. Select Local System account, click Enable, and then click OK. 8. Back on the Computer Management window, right-click on the HP CVTL Database service or the Postgre SQL Database Server service and select Restart or Start. Found in version: 2.6.00 ESL and EML E-Series tape libraries become unresponsive when configuring host port settings or restoring system defaults with direct connected host ports Symptoms: • The Interface Manager becomes slow or unresponsive. • Restore system defaults command hangs or has errors. • Interface Controller port configurations timeout or fail and do not set up. • The Interface Controller event log has LINK UP and LINK DOWN events continuously. • The Interface Manager alert log has Interface Controller LINK UP and LINK DOWN continuously. Workaround: Disconnect the host ports temporarily. The show lib status command should become responsive within five minutes, as the network cleans itself up. With the host ports disabled, the Interface Manager can be restored to the system default without errors and the Interface Controller host ports can be configured without errors. When all the host ports are set back to the direct settings, reconnect the host ports and make sure they link. If the links do not link up, the hard ALPA might need to be changed if it conflicts with the HBA. When HBA or IFC are configured for direct connections, a loop back cable is a good tool to test all connections to find a bad FC port or cable.
