Nomination Information and Application
Thank you for your interest in participating in the Best of NAIOP Awards program. Please read the enclosed information
carefully as new guidelines have been adopted for the 2010 competition. Failure to comply with the instructions will result in
an entry being judged adversely.
DATES and DEADLINES:
 Wednesday, February 9th, 2011
Complete submission packages, including nomination forms, photographs and fees must be received by 12:00 pm at
the NAIOP office: 1702 E. Highland Avenue, Suite 401, Phoenix, AZ 85016.
 Thursday, March 31st, 2011
Awards will be presented at the Phoenician. Seats can be purchased though NAIOP at [email protected]. There will
be further information and pricing to follow.
SUBMISSION REQUIRMENTS:
Form:
 Two (2) Nominations must be submitted on plain white, 8½ x 11" paper in a pocket folder without extraneous
packaging (no ring binders, please).
 All questions must be answered in 100 words or less. Anything over word 101 will be blacked out.
 For Building/Project categories, one 8½ x 11" copy of the site plan and one copy of the floor plan must be
submitted.
 In addition to the application form and the photographs described below, a one-page marketing piece on
the company nominated or who employs the individual nominated, may be included in the submission
package.
Photographs:
 Must be submitted on a labeled CD and printed in the packages. Photos must be in JPG format, and at least
300 dpi. The photos are limited to the following:

Individual and Company Categories – One Photograph
One digital photograph of the person who will accept the award labeled with the person’s name
and the category in which he/she is nominated. The individual accepting the award must be a
NAIOP member.

Building/Project Categories – Three Photographs
Two photographs of the building/project: one of the exterior; one of the interior (no compilation
photos). The CD must be labeled with name of the building/project and the category in which it is
nominated.
Along with one digital photograph of the person who will accept the award labeled with the person’s
name and the category.
Fees:

One entry fee is $400.00. Two entries are $700. Three entries are $975. Four entries or more entries are $1,200.
Payment must be included in the submission and can be made by check or credit card. Please complete
the enclosed Payment Information Sheet. The company submitting the award must be a NAIOP member.
JUDGING:
 Judging will be based exclusively on performance during the period 1/1/10 to 12/31/10 which occurred in the
State of Arizona unless otherwise noted.
 Judging will be done by a group of industry-related professionals from the Phoenix Metropolitan area.
 In the event there are insufficient entries to create competition in a given category, categories may be
consolidated for judging purposes.
 In the event there is only one entry in any given category that category may be eliminated. Refund would
be given.
MEDIA COVERAGE:
All submissions will be shared with The Phoenix Business Journal for inclusion in the supplement covering the nominees
and award winners published by the Business Journal in conjunction with the Best of NAIOP awards ceremony.

Purpose
To recognize the architect/architectural firm who has made the most significant contribution to the
Arizona office and/or industrial market during the period 1/1/10 to 12/31/10.
Qualifying Criteria
 Specific accomplishments during the year with respect to quantity of work, innovativeness in
design, and offering of unique solutions to specific tenant/owner requirements.
 Contribution of the firm to industry-related and community organizations.

Purpose

enhancement and responsiveness to market/tenant requirements.
 Financial success of projects completed during the year.
 Development or redevelopment projects must have received their Certificate of Occupancy by
12/31/10 or must have had 65% of the space leased in 2010.
 Contribution of the firm and its members to industry-related and community organizations.

 The volume of property (industrial, investment or office) leased or sold in Arizona during the year.
 Significant transactions (industrial, investment or office) completed during the year.
 Contribution of broker to NAIOP Arizona, industry-related and community organizations.

Purpose
To recognize the outstanding economic project that had the most significant impact on the city’s
economy.
Qualifying Criteria
 Certificate of Occupancy no earlier than 1/1/09 (24 month period).
 Specific accomplishments between 1/1/10 and 12/31/10 with respect to economic impact on
the city.
Background
Please provide the following information:
 Projected annual economic impact on the city;
 Number of jobs created;
 Average salary per job created;
 Employee benefit package;
 Square feet occupied; and
 Use of occupancy.

1. (30 points) How was the city involved in the project? Were there any incentives provided by the
city? Describe the incentives and how much was provided.
2. (60 points) Explain the overall economic impact to the city and provide any details on the
impact particulars such as taxes, job creation, housing etc…

Industrial Build to Suit of the Year
Purpose
To recognize the outstanding industrial build to suit which leads its peers in economic success in the
market, design quality and innovative solution to development challenges.
Qualifying Criteria
 Certificate of Occupancy between 1/1/10 and 12/31/10.
 The building must have been designed and built for a single tenant.
 Specific development accomplishments between 1/1/10 and 12/31/10 with respect to design,
responsiveness to market/tenant requirements and service to tenants.
Background
Please provide the following information:
 Total building RSF;
 Parking ratio per 1,000 RSF;
 Annual lease rate per SF based on full-service lease; and
 Tenant improvement allowance per RSF.
Questions
1. (30 points) Explain major planning and architectural design objectives and government
challenges. Identify any innovativearchitectural features which help this project stand out
among competing buildings within its submarket. (Two photos may be included, printed and on
CD).
2. (60 points) Explain why this project is financially successful, taking into account: land, building
and other project costs; lease rate; lease-up; and any significant municipal incentives.

Industrial Tenant Improvement of the Year
Purpose
To recognize the outstanding industrial tenant improvement which leads its peers in construction
quality, good design, innovative solutions to design challenges, and efficient and effective use of
space.
Qualifying Criteria
 Certificate of Occupancy between 1/1/10 and 12/31/10.
 The tenant improvement could have been designed and built for a tenant or building owner.
Background
Please provide the following information:
 Total building RSF;
 Building type (e.g. distribution, general industrial, etc);
 Number of floors (if applicable);
 Total Tenant Improvement SF;
 Tenant Improvement business use (e.g. manufacturing, standard warehouse/distribution, etc.);
and
 Tenant improvement allowance per RSF.

1. (30 points) Explain major planning, construction, and architectural design objectives. (Two
photos may be included, printed and on CD).
2. (60 points) Explain why this project is successful for an owner or tenant, taking into account:
construction quality, good design, innovation, marketability, re-usability, extensive or intricate
tenant/owner specific systems; lease-up; and any municipal incentives.
3. (10 points) Identify any specific features of the tenant improvement which helped make the
tenant improvement successful.

LEED Certified Project of the Year
Purpose
To recognize the outstanding LEED Certified Project including Tenant Improvement projects which leads
its peers in economic success in the market, design quality, innovative solution to development
challenges and of sustainable green building and development practices.
Qualifying Criteria
 Certificate of Occupancy no earlier than 1/1/09 (24 month period).
 Building must be, at a minimum, LEED Certified.
 The building must have been designed and built for a single tenant.
 Specific development accomplishments between 1/1/10 and 12/31/10 with respect to design,
responsiveness to market/tenant requirements and service to tenants.

 Specific development accomplishments between 1/1/10 and 12/31/10 with respect to design,
responsiveness to market/tenant requirements and service to tenants.
