Team Project Description
 Problem :
 Design and build a sorter system for 3 types of
recyclable objects.
 Requirements and Constraints:
 Must use materials provided.
 Sort 30 objects ( 10 of each type randomly fed to the system into
3 bins) within 2 minutes.
 Count objects going into one bin.
 Detailed information on all parts of the team project is
included in the Design Project Handbook, located at the
end of your course materials.
2
Documenting the Design Process
 Detailed written report and short oral report required.
 Report documents each step of the design process.
 Outline will be provided.
 Person reading your report should be able to:
 Understand how & why the final design was chosen.
 Build your prototype from the information in the report.
 A Project Notebook will be kept for all Project materials
 Team Meetings
 Sketches, Drawings, Notes, Calculations, References
 One notebook, written report, and oral report per team.
3
How Project Will Be Graded
Team grades calculated
Individual grade will be team grade,
perhaps modified by the extent of
individuals contribution to the team.

Problem Statement
Design and build, with proper
documentation, a device for sorting
recyclable materials into bins – namely
Paper Cups
Wooden Blocks
Steel Cylinders
Count the objects falling into one bin.
7
Some Requirements and Constraints
System must be built using only the
materials provided
System must be finished in time for the
preliminary competition.
