• Medellin and Antioquia are known for the
Bandeja Paisa. A huge concoction of arepa,
ground beef, beans, rice, avocado, an egg and
chicharron.
• Another dish that is tamale. A chicken or pork,
carrots, peas and corn flour. The ingredients
are wrapped inside a palm leaf and steam
them very gently for several hours.
• Other examples of typical Colombian food
include empanadas, corn flower pies filled
with ground beef or potato, onion, tomato, salt,
garlic and cilantro that is used extensively
here.

diverse music genres, both traditional
and modern.
• Cumbia is a mixture of Spanish, Native
Colombia and African music.
• Porro is a musical style and dance from

developed into its own sub-genre. It is
played mostly by brass bands or
orchestras and danced in couples.
