Job Description For Central Hockey Team Assistant Coach Position Overview : The Assistant Coach is appointed by Central Hockey to assist the Head Coach in providing the athletes with the opportunity to reach their potential through excellent technical and tactical training. Along with the Head Coach, the Assistant Coach is responsible to Central Hockey for ensuring that the players and him or herself operate in a manner that enhances the enjoyment of the sport and in no way brings the game or Central Hockey into disrepute. The Assistant Coach is to assist the Coach on and off the field, demonstrating an improvement over the campaign and enhancing the reputation of Central Hockey teams. Responsible to : Central Hockey Director Coaching Director and the Head Coach Working Relationships : Coaching Director; Head Coach; Team Video Analyst; Team Manager; Campaign Manager; Regional Development Manager; Central Hockey Operations; Players; Parents/Caregivers; Sponsors. Key Tasks and Desired Outcomes 1. Agree the coaching role with the Head Coach with defined areas of responsibility. 2. Attend Central Hockey League matches and/or school and club matches as part of the Talent Identification Process of potential trialists. 3. Assist the Coaching Director (Convener of Selectors) and the Head Coach with the trials and be a member of the selection panel. 4. Maintain discretion and confidentiality regarding squad and team selection, including discussion with players about their performance, and do not make any promises or guarantees of selection to any player. 5. Fully utilize technology to analyze, understand and develop individual and team performance. 6. Assist the Head Coach with game plans, review and measurement of individual and team performance against these plans. 7. Assist the Head Coach with building a positive, supportive and inclusive team environment that provides for athlete enjoyment and development. 8. Assist with the running of training sessions as agreed with the Head Coach that may include -: Set Plays Attack Defence Team Building Strength and Conditioning Player Personal Development 9. Uphold and maintain the agreed team standards of discipline, both on an off the field, referring any player discipline issues to the Team Manager. 10. Attend such meetings, workshops, boosters and/or briefing sessions as may be arranged by the Team Coach or Coaching Director. 11. Contact Central Hockey for advice and support in circumstances that you may be in doubt with respect to behavior standards of members of the management team. 12. Assist the Head Coach with Player Reports post the campaign. These are submitted to the Coaching Director within three weeks of the National/Regional Tournament. 13. Participate in a planning session with the team management group and the Coaching Director prior to the campaign commencing. 14. Participate in a debrief session with the team management group and the Coaching Director post tournament. 15. Take care of any Central Hockey equipment that is allocated to the team for the Campaign and in your possession and be responsible for returning it to the Head Coach at the end of tournament. 16. Agree to complete the police vetting process. 17. Be familiar and up-hold the Health and Safety requirements for teams as stipulated by Central Hockey. 18. Engage in Central Coaches forums (potentially via skype sessions) for the sharing of ideas. 19. Share your Central coaching experience with other coaches in Central, either informally or through organized forums at a player, school, club, Association or Regional level. 20. Be fully aware and compliant with tournament rules and the managers’ tournament briefing.
