March Forth Modeling Perfect Game©
General guidelines and recommendations for players to model their perfect game.
Pre-Game
Rest: quality sleep, minimize physical activities
Nutrition & Hydrate: allow enough time to digest and settle (1.5 -2 hours from kickoff)
Equipment: pack in advance
Treatment(s): injury treatments, tape, etc.
Routine: to get into character (music, reflection, laughter/fun)
Arrive Early: allow plenty of time to prepare. late = stress
Imagery: visualize performance (doing everything well), take in the sights/sounds, play out scenarios and your actions
*games with late start (3p – 8p) may benefit a light jog/stretch in am
Game Time:
Find Neutral: emotions and adrenaline are temporary and not sustainable for games, find neutral and positive spirits
Be in the moment: control what is in your control
Focus on what’s in your control: touch, effort, concentration, and attitude
Things NOT in players control: weather, opposition, officials, fans
Create positive atmosphere/mood for self and team
Stay Engaged
Embrace the Ebbs & Flows of Game
Accept mistakes will happen, but work to minimize and respond positively and immediately
Encourage teammates
Be respectful of opposition, officials, teammates, coaches, and observers
Be your best
Post-Game:
Unwind, reflect, and process
Avoid interrogations and criticism
Hydrate
Nutrition within 30 minutes of game ending
Treatment: for injuries (ice bath, pool treatment, athletic trainer)
Questions about performance/playing time; sleep on it before talking to coach
