General Selection Eligibility Criteria and Appeals Guide
2016 World Championship Downhill (DHI)
1.
PERFORMANCE TIME PERIOD
1.1
Elite Men and Women:
Results from DHI events at the 2015 UCI DHI World Championships, 2016
National Championships and UCI DHI World Cup performances between 1st
January 2016 and 8 August 2016 will be considered as per the schedule in
article 9.
1.2
U19 Junior Men and Women
1.2.1 Results from DHI events at the 2015 World Championships, the 2015/16
National Series, 2016 National Championships and 2016 Oceania
Championships.
1.2.2 As per article 4.3.5, and 4.4.4 additions to the National Team will be
made, subject to the availability of positions within the UCI quota,
based upon 2016 UCI DHI World Cup results achieved between 1st
January 2016 and 11 July 2016 as per the schedule in article 9.
1.3
Extenuating Circumstances
In documented cases of extenuating circumstances affecting the performance time
period, the Selectors may consider performances achieved outside the time period.
2.
SELECTION CRITERIA PURPOSE AND PROCESS
2.1
Purpose
The purpose of the MTBA MTB Selection Criteria is to;
•
Select a team to achieve the objectives stated in article 1.1 of Section A.
•
To have Australian athletes place at the 2016 World Championships in the:
a. top 20 Elite Men,
b. top 10 Elite Women,
c. top 10 Junior Men, and
d. top 3 Junior Women.

Process
These criteria are listed in priority order, (i.e. all athletes achieving the first criteria will
be nominated). If positions still remain after the first criterion has been considered,
then the second criteria will be considered etc. until team size is achieved in
accordance with article 3.

TEAM SIZE
The maximum number of athletes in each category is equal to the relevant UCI
quota.
The Selectors may determine how many athletes are nominated in each category to
best achieve the objectives of the selection criteria however MTBA reserves the right
to enter a smaller team or no team at all in any category for any event.
If enough athletes are nominated that the target team size has been achieved, the
Selectors may list potential reserves in case athletes decline, are injured, withdraw or
are removed from the team.
4.
AUTOMATIC SELECTION CRITERIA
4.1
Elite Men National Team
4.1.1 Top 10 2015 World Championships result.
4.1.2 Top 30 2016 UCI DHI World Cup result before 8th August 2016. Ranked
in order of highest to lowest result.
A count back system based on next best result will be used for
athletes with equal best result.
4.1.3 2016 DHI Elite National Champion.
4.1.4 2015/2016 DHI Elite National Series Champion with a top 40 finish at a
2016 UCI DHI World Cup.
4.1.5 Top 3 finish in the 2015/16 National Series for Elite Men.
4.2
Elite Women National Team
4.2.1 Top 5 result 2015 World Championship.
4.2.2 Top 15 2016 UCI DHI World Cup result before 8th August 2016 ranked
in order of highest to lowest result.
A count back system based on next best result will be used for
athletes with equal best result.
4.2.3 2016 DHI Elite National Champion.
4.2.4 2015/2016 DHI Elite National Series Champion with a top 20 finish at a
2016 UCI DHI World Cup.
4.1.5 Top 3 finish in the 2015/16 National Series for Elite Women.
4.3
U19 Junior Men National Team
4.3.1 Top 5 result at 2015 World Championships.
4.3.2 2016 National Champion.
4.3.3 2015/16 National Series Champion.

4.3.4 Next best result in the 2016 National Championships and 2015/16
National Series rounds in that order of priority.
4.3.5 Additional U19 Men who place in the top 5 of a 2016 UCI Junior Men
DHI World Cup held between 1st January 2016 and 8th August 2016.
Athletes who qualify under article 4.3.5 are not subject to article 4.3.7.
4.3.6 Additional U19 Men who place the equivalent of a top 5 result in the
Elite Men category at the 2016 Oceania Championships, on the same
course and under the same conditions.
4.3.7 Athletes selected as 6th or 7th pick for the U19 Junior Men National
Team must have a result from a qualifying or final race at a 2015/16
National Series round or the 2016 National Championships where the
athlete would have placed within the top 10 of the equivalent Elite
Men’s race.
4.4
U19 Junior Women National Team
4.4.1 Top 3 result at 2015 World Championships.
4.4.2 2016 National Champion.
4.4.3 2016 National Series Champion.
4.4.4 Additional U19 Women who place in the top 15 of a 2016 UCI Elite
Women DHI World Cup held between 1st January 2016 and 8th August
2016.
4.4.5 Additional U19 Women who place the equivalent of a top 3 result in the
Elite Women category at the 2016 Oceania Championships, on the
same course and under the same conditions.
4.4.6 Athletes selected for the U19 Junior Women National Team must have
a result from a qualifying or final race at a 2016 National Series round
or the 2016 National Championships with a time that is equal to or less
than 135% of the Elite Men’s winning time for the same event, on the
same course and under the same conditions

NON-AUTOMATIC SELECTION CRITERIA

ATHLETE SUPPORT
6.1
MTBA shall provide team uniform to athletes selected in the National Team.
6.2
MTBA support provided under article 6.1 is funded by MTBA.
6.2
Where funding is available, all athletes who represent Australia at the World
Championships competition may be supported financially by MTBA to assist
with airfares and/or accommodation. This will be assessed on a case-by-case
basis and approved by the MTBA Management Committee.
ATHLETE LEVIES

If no athletes or too few athletes are nominated to the National Team in any
category through the Selection Criteria to achieve the Selection Objectives,
then the Selectors may in some circumstances nominate the ‘next best’
athlete in order to achieve these objectives.
A levy will be charged to athletes who travel and live with the MTBA Team
and who are supported by the MTBA team.

7.2
The levy recovers the MTBA cost of the athletes travel, provided meals,
accommodation, insurances, and any other individual costs incurred by MTBA
specifically for an athlete.
7.3
Levies must be paid prior to travel to the 2016 World Championships,
development trips and camps.
REMOVAL FROM A TEAM
An athlete may be removed from the National Team if the athlete fails to meet the
eligibility criteria, as listed within Section A, article 2.2.

Changes to Schedule
MTBA reserves the right to change these dates in the event that more time is needed to ensure due process and fairness in selection, subject
to section A, article 2.4 and compliance with UCI entry dates. Additional athletes may be nominated to a Long Team or National Team after the
Selection Dates at the discretion of the Selectors.
10.1 Any competition results after the announcement of the team will only be considered, if places are available on the team.
