CIHL Rules Clarification 2013/14 Season 1. Hockey Canada Rules supercede all other rules. 2. BC Hockey Rules apply. BC Hockey rules do not over‐rule Hockey Canada rules. BC Hockey rules may in some cases form addendums to Hockey Canada Rules. For example: Hockey Canada Rule 4.6 c states “Any player or team official who is assessed a Game Misconduct penalty in the last ten of regular time, at any time in overtime, or after the conclusion of the game and prior to the player or team official entering his dressing room, shall automatically be suspended for a minimum of the next regular league/play‐off game or seven days.” This “umbrella” rule is in effect for all levels of hockey EXCEPT Senior hockey as follows “with the exception being that in Senior Hockey there is no time involved (example 7 days)” Clarification on cumulative fight rules in Senior Hockey Suspension Guidelines These rules are: Any player who engages in his 3rd fight in a season. Any player who engages in his 4th fight in a season. Any player who engages in his 5th fight in a season. Any player who engages in his 6th fight in a season. Third (3rd) man in a fight (Rule 6.7 (c) Any player receiving a fighting major penalty, which is a result of a second or subsequent fight during the same stoppage of play. 1 Game 2 Games 3 Games Indefinite suspension 1 Game 1 Game Cumulative Fight Interpretation When a player accumulates 3 fighting penalties in the season he receives an automatic 1 game suspension. If that same player receives his next fighting penalty, making his cumulative total 4 fighting penalties, he will receive a 2 game suspension. If that same player receives his next fighting penalty, making his cumulative total 5 fighting penalties, he will receive a 3 game suspension. If that same player receives his next fighting penalty, making his cumulative total 6 fighting penalties, he will receive an indefinite suspension. Third man in interpretation If a player is assessed a fighting penalty AND a 3rd man in penalty his fighting penalty will count towards his accumulated fight count. He will receive an automatic 1 game suspension for the 3rd man in penalty. If the penalty causes his accumulated fight total to reach an increment level he shall also receive the suspension for that level. For example if a player receives a fighting penalty AND a 3rd man in penalty BEFORE the last 10 minutes of the game he would receive a 1 game suspension for the 3rd man in rule. If this penalty caused him to reach 3 fights he would receive a 1 game suspension for the 3rd man in rule AND a 1 game suspension for the 3 fights rule. If this occurred DURING the last 10 minutes of the game as per rule 4.6 his fighting penalty will count towards his accumulated fight count AND he would receive a 1 game suspension for the 3rd man in rule AND a 1 game suspension for the 3 fights rule AND a 1 game suspension for the last 10 minutes of the game rule. 3 games suspensions in total. Two fights in one game interpretation If a player is assessed two fighting penalties in one game both shall count towards his accumulated fight total. If either of these fights causes his total to reach an automatic suspension increment he shall receive the suspension for that level. For example if a player has 1 fight prior to a game and receives 2 fighting penalties in the game he shall be deemed to have reached the 3 game increment and shall be automatically assessed a 1 game suspension. If the 2 fighting penalties occur in the last 10 minutes of the game each shall count as a 1 game suspension under rule 4.6 AND he will receive a 1 game suspension for accumulating 3 fights. He will be suspended for THREE games. Game Misconducts in last 10 Minutes of the game (not for fighting) A player assessed a game misconduct in the last 10 minutes of a game shall be assessed an automatic 1 game suspension. A suspension for a game misconduct in the last 10 minutes of a game (not for fighting) remains as 1 game OR 7 days.
