





All exhibitors (including driving grooms and lead rein leaders) must be current members of the Dales
Pony Society (DPS).
The current showing rules of the DPS apply to the appropriate classes. See www.dalespony.org
All classes will be open to both registered and unregistered Dales type ponies.
Previous DPS Performance Show Champions and Reserve Champions must move up to the next
Section.
Any combination of one pony/rider may only compete in classes in one category i.e. Intro, Novice or
Open.
Lead rein will be permitted in the Intro Section with a minimum rider age of 5 years.
Trophies must be returned to the Show Secretary or one of the Show Officials prior to, or on show day.
This is itended to be a fun show, to be enjoyed by all. We do not encourage complaints, but if you
insist, then any complaint must be accompanied by a fee of £30, and reported to the ring steward or
Show Secretary. The fee will be forfeited if the complaint is not upheld.
The committee reserves the right to:
o Refuse entry to any pony not considered to be of Dales type
o Place a pony in the appropriate category or class.
o Alter or cancel any classes without prior notice
o Split any classes by age of pony or age of rider, depending on numbers of entries
o Neither the Society nor any of its officials or servants, will be responsible for anything that may
happen from any cause or circumstances whatever to exhibitors or their servants, or the public,
or any spectator, or through any animal or vehicle exhibited at the show and it will be a
condition of entry that each exhibitor shall not hold the society responsible and that he or she
indemnify the Society against any legal proceedings arising from any cause or circumstance.
Safety and Welfare:




Correctly secured current British Standard skull caps/riding hats must be worn at all times when
mounted.

Only one person will be allowed to enter the ring with each pony, with the exception of grooms for the
driving classes and leaders for lead rein.
All ponies must be 4 years or over.
Any stallions must be exhibited by a rider/driver of 14yrs or over.
Snaffle bridles only are allowed for all levels of dressage classes.
Spurs are not permitted in any classes, including the dressage classes. Side saddle competitors must
wear dummy spurs.
Excessive use of the whip, or mistreatment of any pony, either in a ring or on the showground is
forbidden.
Class Information:




Please present for both Dressage and Handy Pony classes as early as possible (a declaration system
will be in place).
Show Jumping will be run as a Gamblers Stakes class. There will be three jumps at each category
level height i.e. Intro, Novice and Open, plus a joker fence (which will be bigger than the Open height
fences). Competitors can jump a maximum of 8 fences within a maximum time limit of 3 minutes, times
will be recorded. With the exception of the joker fence that may only be jumped once, they may jump
ANY of the fences and in ANY order. Any fence may be jumped more than once, and from either
direction, unless it is knocked down.
Combined Training: This class will be based on a combination of the Dressage and Show Jumping
scores. The dressage percentage will be added to the jumping percentage and the highest combined
score will win. The jumping percentage will be calculated as follows: A nominal maximum will be
calculated for each category, assuming that 8 scoring jumps at the category entered = 100%.The
points actually scored will be calculated as a percentage of this Section nominal maximum, so your
score can be greater than or less than 100% depending if you jumped more or less jumps in your
category.
Horse & Hound Jumping: This is a fun class with a very small course. It is jumped as a timed relay by
pony and rider and then by both hound and handler. Dogs must be on a lead. Entry fee can be paid on
the day. Neither pony nor hound may compete in any combination more than twice. Any pony/rider
combination is allowed i.e. not necessarily the same pony/rider combination that competes in the main
classes. To be held at the close of the show jumping classes.
