TERMINOLOGY

Avolunteer’sappearancegreatlyaffectshowothersperceivethem.Avolunteerwholooksprofessionalismore
readilyacceptedthanonewhoconveysasloppyorunprofessionalappearance.Withthisinmind,TYFArequires
ALL certified volunteers that will be at any TYFA Event to look PROFESSIONAL as they not only represent
themselves,buttheirorganization,theirteamandTYFAaswell.Whileitisinevitablethattherewillbedifferences
ofopinionastocompliance,thefinaldeterminationwillbeTYFA’s.
Non‐certifiedvolunteersthatareutilizedtoholdthechainsanddownmarkermustbeappropriatelydressed.The
sameuniformityascertifiedvolunteersisnotrequired,buttheymustbedressedyouthappropriateastheypersons
arevisibletothepublicandtheathletesandcouldbeanembarrassmentand/ordistraction.
ForpracticesTYFAwouldrequestthatorganizationspolicethemselveskeepinginmindtheneedforappropriate
attire.
THEVOLUNTEERDRESSCODE
Avolunteer’sattiremustfirstandforemost,beintheOrganization’sColorSchemeorApprovedNeutralColor
withthefollowingspecifications.
TOPWEAR
A. TYPE
 TopsdonothavetobePOLO;theycanbeT‐Shirts.Butregardless,musthavesleeves.
 Topsdonothavetobetuckedin.
 The{Styles}ofTopsdoesnothavetobethesame.
 CompressionshirtsmaybewornunderaTopwithinColorSchemeorNeutral,butnotasaTop.
 PROHIBITED:
Baremidrifftop,spaghettistraptop,tanktop,muscleshirt,“Wife‐Beater”,lowneckline,suggestive
clothing,tightfitting,overlylooseandsee‐throughgarments.
B. COLOR
 The Football sideline has 4 categories of certified volunteers as
displayedintheimage.EachcategoryMAYwearadifferentcolor
Top from the other categories, but everyone within a category
mustbewearingthesame.Multiplecolorsisnotrequired.
 Multi‐coloredTopsisnotconsidereduniformwithsolidTops.
 Exactshadesisnotrequiredbuttheshadesshouldbeprettyclose.
HEADWEAR
 Ifahatorvisoriswornitmustbeforwardfacing.
 Do‐rags,bandanas,hardplastic,metalorsimilarheadcoveringisPROHIBITED.
FOOTWEAR
 Currentlythereisnorestrictiononthecoloroffootwear.
 Bare feet, thong flip‐flops, Crocs, shower shoes, Sliders, slippers or anything similar in nature is
PROHIBITED.

BOTTOMWEAR
A. TYPE
 PantsandShortsandmayhavecargopockets.
 Shortsmaybenoshorterthan4”abovetheknee.SkirtsandSkortsmustbeatleastkneehigh.
 SidelinesmaywearacombinationofPants,Shorts,ShirtsandSkortsandbeuniformed.
 Leggings, tights, spandex and compression may be worn under a Bottom within Color Scheme or
Neutral,butnotasaBottom.
 PROHIBITED:
BasketballShortsandsaggingpants(pocketsbelowthebuttocks).
B. COLOR
 The head coach sets the color of the Bottoms and ALL sideline
volunteersmusthavethatcolorasdisplayedintheimage.
 Multi‐colored Bottoms do not count as uniformed with those
wearingsolidcolors.
 Exactshadesisnotrequiredbuttheshadesshouldbeprettyclose.
GROOMING
 PROHIBITED:
o Unconventionalhairstyles(spiked,Mohawk,etc.)ortastelesscoloredhair(brightgreenetc.).
o Displayingtattoosthatpromotesex,violence,reflectgangactivity,and/orareconsideredtobe
offensiveandinflammatory(unlesscoveredup),faceorbodypaint.
MISCELLANEOUS
 Iftherearelogosonattiretheyneedtobeyouthandsportappropriate.
 “Jean”materialofanykindorcolorisPROHIBITED.
 IDBadgesarepartoftheuniformandshouldbevisiblydisplayed.
 Jewelryisfineaslongasitisn’ttastelesspiercingandisyouthappropriate.
 Sponsoradvertisingonattireisallowedaslongasitistastefulandyouthappropriate.
EXCEPTIONSTOTHEVOLUNTEERDRESSCODE
ADMINISTRATIVEWAIVER
RequestsforexceptionstotheDressCodePolicy(AdministrativeWaivers)[email protected]
therequestwillnotbereviewed.Thisrequestmustbesentinbyoneoftheorganization’sapproved(BoardLevel)
points of contact prior to the event. If this waiver is granted the participant in need must have the approved
AdministrativeWaiverwiththematallTYFAEventswheretheywouldnormallybeinviolation.ItisnotTYFA’s
responsibilitytohavecopies.
WORKATTIRE
TYFAunderstandsthattherearetimesthatpeoplemaybeworkingduringgamesandtheyhaveslippedawayto
coachandthentheyhavetorunbacktowork.Withthisinmind,TYFAwillallowMilitary,Fire,PoliceandEMT
personnel to wear their work uniform on the sidelines instead of the organization’s approved uniform when
necessary.ThisexceptiondoesnotcoverUPS,FedEx,USPostalServiceoranyotherjobs.Nowaiverisrequired.
COLDWEATHERATTIRE
TYFAunderstandsthatduringthecoldweathermonthsadditionalclothingmustbeworntostaywarm.Volunteers
are permitted to wear jackets, pullovers, and sweatshirts butthey still mustadhere to the Organization’s Color
Scheme or the Approved Neutral Colors. Cold weather undergarments must be hidden or must be in the
Organization’sColorSchemeortheApprovedNeutralColors.Inaddition,thesegarments,iflogoed,mustbesport
appropriate.Nowaiverisrequired.

inanynationalevents,ALLBadgedVolunteerswillbeREQUIREDtowearPANTS(I.e.cottontwill,DockerStyle).
ThisappliestoALLBadgedVolunteersparticipatingintheStateCheerCompetitionandanyregionalornational
appearancesonbehalfofTYFAforCheer.
MEMORIALIZING&SOLIDARITYSITUATIONS
TYFA,liketheUIL,NCAAandNFL,supportsBreastCancerAwareness(BCA)monthbyallowingparticipantsto
wearpinkitemstoshowsupport.Thisisnottosaythatothercancersorillnessesarelessimportant.

D. Participants should not be forced to participate and it is NOT a violation of the uniformity policy if all
participantsonateamdonotparticipate.

RefereeswillnotgetinvolvedinDressCodeviolationcomplaintsbyanyoneexceptaTYFABlackShirt.
REPORTINGDRESSCODEVIOLATION
OrganizationswantingtobringviolationstoTYFA’[email protected]
TYFAwilladdressthemwithfinesafterthefact.GamescannotbeprotestedforDressCodeviolations.
BLACKSHIRT
TYFABlackShirtsrandomlymonitoringgamesoratTYFAhostedplayoffs,willenforcetheDressCodewithout
regardtowhathadbeenpreviouslyallowedthroughouttheseason.IfaTYFABlackShirtfindsavolunteerviolation
onthefieldorsidelinetheywillbringittotheattentionofthevolunteerduringastoppageinthegame.
1. Ifthevolunteerrefusesorisunabletotakecareoftheissue,theywillbeaskedtoleave.Iftheyleavewith
littletonoissue,therewillbenofurtheractiontaken.
2. Iftheyrefusetoleavetheissuewillbebroughttotheheadcoaches’attention.Iftheheadcoachhandles
theissue,therewillbenofurtheractiontaken.IftheheadcoachrefusestohandletheissuetheWhiteHat
willbeaskedtoEJECTboththeheadcoachandvolunteerfromthegame.AnejectionbytheWhiteHatwill
bringadditionaldisciplinaryaction.
3. Ifeithervolunteerrefusestoleave,thegamewillcontinueandthevolunteerwhichrefusedtoleavewillbe
chargedwitha(LevelIVViolation).

If the volunteer agreed to leave but by leaving there would not be the required minimum of volunteer
supervision,thevolunteercanstaybutwillbechargedwitha(LevelIViolation).
Ifatanypointinthediscussionavolunteer’sbehaviorbecomesbelligerent,theywillbechargedwitha
(LevelIVViolation).
