Hundertacht - Gymnasium Essen

Hundertacht
An interview with Hundertacht.
We all are between 13 and 14 years old and from two classes in the same year group. Partly we know us
since primary school or from handball club.
My name is Moritz and I’m 14 years old. I live with my family in Essen in Germany. I have an elder
sister who lives in Berlin. I play tennis and badminton in a club and I’m a very big football fan. I like
playing PC and meeting friends. I can speak English and a little bit of Latin.
My name is Laura and I am fourteen years old. I like to read exciting books, to play board games with
my whole family, to paint pictures, to be together with my friends, to play badminton and the piano. My
friends say I am reliable, open-minded and quite creative. I am looking forward to the J8 Summit in St
Petersburg where my team and I will have the opportunity to speak and discuss with politicians and to
express our opinions.
I’m Janusch and I’m 14 years old. My hobbies are reading books, playing and working on the PC,
playing the guitar and football, but I don’t play football in a club. I play the bass guitar in the school. I’m
particularly interested in geographical and political questions. That’s why I regularly watch the
‘Weltspiegel’ on TV. Unfortunately I speak only German and English but next school year I’ll start
learning French too. At present I’ve got to translate a lot of Latin texts. I’m especially looking forward to
meeting young people from other nations, t0 discuss, to talk and perhaps to play football with them.
My name is Johannes and I’m 14 years old. I come from Essen in Germany. My school is named GEÜ
and it is located in Essen-Überrurhr. I’m very much interested in music. I sing in a choir and I play the
trumpet and the piano. The choir is only for boys and we sing in our town’s cathedral. My favourite sport
is basketball and so I play basketball in a team. I live with my parents and my two brothers in our house
in Essen-Überrurhr. I like to travel, that’s why I’m so happy to be going to St Petersburg. I’ve already
been to Rome, North-Italy, Sweden and South France.
Hello, I’m Dominik and I’m 14 years old. I’ve got brown hair and dark brown eyes. I’m playing handball
in a club, I like listening to music, playing computer and playing with my twin brother. My twin brother
Pierre is in this group too. I’m a pupil of Gymnasium Essen-Überrurhr. I want to fly to St Petersburg
because I’m interested in all the global issues we worked on in our Communiqué, and I want to tell my
opinion to the politicians. I would like to change the world a little bit with my ideas.
I’m Pierre, 14 years old, and I’m a pupil at Gymnasium Essen-Überrurhr. My twin brother is in our group
too. My hobbies are playing handball, meeting friends and playing computer. I’m interested in going to
St Petersburg because I can meet some of the most famous politicians there like Mr Bush, Mrs Merkel
and Mr Putin. I think it will be a golden opportunity to discuss about some political problems that we are
facing all over the world.
My name is Julia and I am 14 years old. I live with my family in essen, a town in Germany. I have got a
16 year old sister. I like playing handball very much. I also like reading and going shopping but my
friends are most important to me. I am in year 8 at GE Ü. I speak English and have been learning French
and Latin for two years too. I am open-minded, helpful and sometimes a little crazy.
Hej, my name is Svenja, and I’m 14 years old. I live in Germany in a big city called Essen. I’m in grade
8 at Gymnasium Essen-Überrurhr. In my class there are more boys than girls so there is always
something going on - I’m so happy that all my friends are in my class. My family and I live in a big house
together with my grandparents. Often at the weekend we walk through forests or visit museums. I have
a brother and sister. My brother is eight and very sweet. I often play Lego with him or something like
that. My sister is eleven and attends Gymnasium Essen-Überrurhr too. She is already a little lady. My
hobbies are handball and athletics. I love to do sports, because I’m a good runner and I like team sport.
I like to go shopping with friends and reading interesting books. I’m very glad that I can go to the trip to
St Petersburg and I hope that I meet nice and interesting people there at the Summit. I’m very excited.
Tell us about Gymnasium Essen-Überrurhr
Our school is a big one in a suburb of Essen, a town in Northrhine Westfalia. Girls and boys from
surrounding quarters attends Gymnasium Essen-Überrurhr. Our school is a UNESCO-school and so we’ve
got a project day yearly. These days have mottoes like ‘fit, fair, friedlich für eine Welt’ or ‘Wasser – das
Lebenselixier’. During these days we present results of our studies and collect donations for our project
street children in Sao Paulo.
Why is the Hundertacht team interested in J8 issues?
We are interested in global issues and the J8 because we think that the Summit is an outstanding chance
to take part in the G8 summit with our ideas because it’s our future they discuss about in St Petersburg.
We discussed some similar issues in our Geography lessons and when we heard about the J8
competition, we decided to enter it in order to discuss the problems with other young people from the G8
countries.
What would you say to other young people in Germany interested in these
issues?
We would like to encourage you to send in your ideas, because we will ready every idea you send in, we
will discuss them and we will take them to the Summit. And perhaps your idea will be a part of our final,
international Communiqué.
Any last words Hundertacht?
We hope that taking part in this Summit will give us the chance to learn about other young people’s
beliefs, cultures and ideas. We think it is a good stop forward when young people are asked about their
opinions. Maybe we are able to convince the G8 politicians of the importance of how we see the world
problems. We are proud to represent our school and our country at the Summit.
