Driver Certificate of Professional Competence
Since 10th September 2008 and 10th September 2009 you must hold a Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (Driver CPC) in order to work as a professional driver.
A person who has already passed a driving test in licence category D or C and has taken out a driving licence before the relevant date will have an entitlement to the Driver CPC which is valid for a 5 year period. However you are required to complete one days training per year.
The Driver CPC Case Study Theory Test is a specialist case study exam for those who wish to become either a professional Bus or professional Truck Driver. The test includes three case studies, with fifteen multiple choice questions for each case study and lasting two and a quarter hours.
If you wish to apply for a Bus and Truck CPC Qualification, you are required to have passed both the Bus Theory Test & Truck Theory Test OR the combined Bus & Truck Theory Test. However you must complete the individual Driver CPC Case Study Tests – Step 2 for both Bus & Truck.

7. Postal Bookings: Send this completed application form with your postal order or cheque to the following address: Driver Theory Test, PO Box 15, Dundalk, Co. Louth. Postal orders and cheques must be made payable to Driver Theory Test.
8. Required Documents: When you arrive to take the Driver CPC Bus or Truck Case Study Theory Test you will need to have a valid Public Service Card (PSC). The PSC number, name(s) and surname(s) must match exactly with the details on this application form. You must also present a valid, full Irish category D Driving licence or category D learner permit for Bus candidates, or a full category C Driving Licence or Category C learner permit for Truck candidates (or one from another EU/EEA member state or Switzerland. If you do not present a PSC card and a Driving licence or learner permit you will not be able to test and will lose your fee.
9. Irish Language: An Irish language version of this form is available. If you complete a form in Irish or an Irish language version of the form your Driver CPC Case Study Theory Test will be provided in the Irish language.
10.Cancellation/Reschedules: If you wish to cancel or reschedule your Theory Test appointment, you must give us at least 5
working days notice or you will lose your fee. For example, to reschedule or cancel a test booked for a Friday you must let
us know on the previous Monday.
11. Test preparation: Candidates can revise from The Official Driver Theory Test Questions and Answers, Truck and Buses June 2017 Edition book, online subscription service or CD-ROM.
