Feb 8-12 2016
February 14 is Valentine’s Day. 1st grade
classes will recognize this Holiday by
decorating white sacks for a card exchange on
Friday. If you want your child to participate in
an exchange of cards you may do so. Each
child will get to open their sack with all their
cards on Friday right before they go home.
There won’t be any cupcakes or treats.

We will have a 2 week Encore schedule
change for the dates Feb 8 to Feb 19 First
grade Encore schedules will change as
follows:
From: 2:15 -3:00 to 12:15-1:00
Parents- thanks for all your hard
work collecting toilet paper rolls
and paper towel rolls. This week
we begin the awesome job of
making a roller coaster out of
them. We will secure them with
masking tape. This is a science
activity teaching students how
things move. (up and down,
around and around, spiraling,
back and forth).
Our homework packet is sent
home every Monday and
should be returned to your
teacher on Friday. Students
need to read for 20 min. each
day and record it on their
reading log attached. Your
child must read 60 words per
minute by the end of May.
This week we will learn:
Reading: Using multi syllable words
Math: using coins to Skip count by
2’s, 5’s, and 10’s ; 10 more/less
Science: How Do Things Move All
about roller coasters

It is essential for your student to be at school on
time and ready to learn every day. When a
student is tardy they miss the spiral review that
is a vital part of the day. After Christmas
vacation school can be hard and tiring for
youngsters so it is key that you stay positive and
encouraging. It is also vital that they get enough
rest and a good breakfast. Breakfast is also
served at school. Please contact the office for
more information on this service. Our 1st grade
classes who have 100% attendance for a 6
weeks get a popcorn party or a hot chocolate
party.
