First Grade Newsletter Feb 8-12 2016 February 14 is Valentine’s Day. 1st grade classes will recognize this Holiday by decorating white sacks for a card exchange on Friday. If you want your child to participate in an exchange of cards you may do so. Each child will get to open their sack with all their cards on Friday right before they go home. There won’t be any cupcakes or treats. ************************************* We will have a 2 week Encore schedule change for the dates Feb 8 to Feb 19 First grade Encore schedules will change as follows: From: 2:15 -3:00 to 12:15-1:00 Parents- thanks for all your hard work collecting toilet paper rolls and paper towel rolls. This week we begin the awesome job of making a roller coaster out of them. We will secure them with masking tape. This is a science activity teaching students how things move. (up and down, around and around, spiraling, back and forth). Our homework packet is sent home every Monday and should be returned to your teacher on Friday. Students need to read for 20 min. each day and record it on their reading log attached. Your child must read 60 words per minute by the end of May. When a student is tardy they miss the spiral review that is a vital part of the day. After Christmas vacation school can be hard and tiring for youngsters so it is key that you stay positive and encouraging. It is also vital that they get enough rest and a good breakfast. Breakfast is also served at school. Please contact the office for more information on this service. Our 1st grade classes who have 100% attendance for a 6 weeks get a popcorn party or a hot chocolate party.
