SCA FINAL ROUND WAKEFIELD PARK
The Final round of the series had forecasted rain all weekend & Friday started out with a thunderstorm in the
morning & rain just after noon but the weekend at Goulburn turned out to be perfect for us to race on.
Qualifying on Saturday morning gave us nine laps to do our best to obtain pole. Michael Coulter in his OZ
Truck out drove all of his opposition to gain pole with his father Steve alongside him in the other OZ Truck
over a second behind. Third was Brian Walden in his stock car with new comer to the series Dave (Kermit)
Hender also in a stock car just managed to hold out Graham Booth for fourth. The scene was set for a some
close & hard racing over the weekend.
Race one was a six lap screamer that was not a point scoring race but everyone was keen to put a win under
their belt before the main races stated. Michael Coulter got the jump on Steve Coulter to lead into the first
corner with Brian Walden third Dave Hender fourth & graham Booth fifth. The places stayed the same from
start to finish with Steve Coulter putting pressure on Michael Coulter for the whole race Walden finished three
half seconds behind the Coulter pair & Hender & Booth finished off the top five.
Race two was a fourteen lap points race with the starting positions being from qualifying not the finishing order
of race one. Michael Coulter once again took the lead from Steve Coulter & Hender got the jump on Walden
into turn two to take third place from him & Booth in fifth. Walden put Hender under pressure for three laps till
Hender spun at the top of the circuit making Walden take evasive action to miss him & after a three sixty spin
regained third position. Hender regained behind Booth but on lap seven Booth spun at turn two to fall behind
Hender. Michael Coulter lead for the whole race from Steve Coulter & created a one two Family affair finish
once again. Walden finished third, Hender fourth & Booth rounded out the top five.
Sunday saw us line up in the morning for a fifteen lap race & once again Michael Coulter got a great start to
lead the field into the first corner with Michael Coulter in second spot Hender got a great start to pass Walden
into turn two to take third. Booth was out for the rest of the weekend due to a faulty clutch slave cylinder.
Walden chased down Hender & was about to make a charge when the battery in Hander’s car came adrift
coming on the straight on the third lap & putting Hender out for the rest of the Race. The next lap for saw Andy
Cantrell hit Hender’s battery on the straight that put him out & caused a red flag. On the restart it was Michael
Coulter Steve Coulter & Walden going for it for the remainder of the race. On lap eleven Walden started to get
fuel surge due to low fuel in the tank & Steve Coulter pulled about three car lengths on Walden till lap fourteen
when Steve Coulter ran out of fuel at turn eight allowing Walden to take second place with the win going to
Michael Coulter.
Race four was the final race for the stock cars & was another fifteen lap race. This time Walden got the jump on
both Coulters to lead into the first corner with Michael hot on his heels. Michael Coulter shadowed Walden
with Steve Coulter losing out too Hender who was also looking for a way around the two in front. Walden went
wide coming onto the straight on lap three that gave Michael the chance to drag race Walden down the straight
& take the lead. Walden harassed Michael Coulter for a full lap & when the pair exited turn five Cantrell had
spun & filled the corner with smoke & dust that made it imposable to see. Michael took the punt & raced
through the smoke but Walden decided to exit the track as he was blinded from the smoke & dust that created a
fair amount of damage to the front that put him out of the race. On lap six Hender seen the black flag was
displayed for Cantrell missed the number on the board & though it was for him so he exited the race by mistake
that let Steve Coulter gain another spot to finish the race in second behind his Son Michael with a formation
finish. Congratulations to Michael Coulter for being number one in our first championship year. Brian Walden
was second & Ken croft third.
