SETTING THE SCENE
Lehigh visits historic Franklin Field for the first time since 2002 as the Mountain Hawks
will look for their first win of 2016 against defending Ivy League co-champion Penn.
The Mountain Hawks showed improvement but dropped a back-and-forth affair at
No. 22/19 Villanova last weekend, dropping a 26-21 final after leading 14-6 at halftime.
Junior Troy Pelletier led the offense with 13 catches for 121 yards, while senior Colton
Caslow made 10 tackles in his season debut. Penn went 7-3 last season, claiming a share
of the Ivy League title with a 6-1 league mark.
KEY STATS
•Lehigh’s two losses have been by a combined seven points.
•The Mountain Hawks are 6-2 against Ivy League teams playing their season-openers
under Andy Coen.
•Lehigh has won 12 of the last 16 games versus Penn after the Quakers won 34 straight
against the Brown and White from 1890-1975.

LEHIGH HEAD COACH ANDY COEN
Andy Coen is in his 11th season as the head coach of the Lehigh football program. He
holds a career record of 68-48. In 10-plus years as the Mountain Hawks leader, Coen has
produced 109 All-Patriot League honorees, 22 All-America selections and 196 Patriot
League Academic Honor Roll choices. Coen has led Lehigh to three Patriot League
Championships in 10 seasons, including back-to-back titles in 2010 and 2011. The 2010
Patriot League Coach of the Year, Coen has twice been named a finalist for the Eddie
Robinson Award, finishing seventh in the 2010 voting and sixth in 2011.
(Coach Coen’s complete bio can be found on page 14)
PENN HEAD COACH RAY PRIORE
Ray Priore took over as the 22nd George A. Munger Head Coach of Football at Penn on
Dec. 1, 2014 and begins his second season as the Quakers’ head man today. Priore enters
his 30th season at Penn, where he has been a part of 11 Ivy League championship teams,
including last year’s 7-3 campaign in his first season as head coach. He spent the previous 16 seasons as Penn’s defensive coordinator and secondary coach. Priore is a 1985
graduate of Albany.
THE SERIES
Lehigh and Penn meet for the 59th time with the Quakers holding a 44-14 advantage.
Last year’s meeting was the first since 2003 after Lehigh and Penn met regularly in the
1960s, 70s, 80s and 90s. Last year’s win snapped a two-game Penn winning streak in the
series. Lehigh has won 12 of the last 16 meetings dating back to 1975. These teams first
met in 1885 and last met at Franklin Field in 2002, a 24-21 Quakers victory.
THE LAST TIME THEY MET
BETHLEHEM, Pa. (9/19/15) - Powered by a career day from junior quarterback Nick
Shafnisky, Lehigh cruised to a 42-21 victory over Penn in its home opener on at Goodman Stadium. With the win, the Mountain Hawks improve to 2-1 on the season. The
Lehigh offense racked up an impressive 495 yards of total offense, 250 through the air
and 245 on the ground. Shafnisky completed 24-of-34 of his passes for 250 yards and career high-tying three passing touchdowns. He also ran for 95 yards to go along with two
rushing touchdowns. After having just three catches in his first two games, sophomore
Troy Pelletier put together a strong game with ten receptions for 104 receiving yards and
two touchdowns. Junior Trevor Socarras added five catches for 55 yards. On the ground,
freshman Micco Brisker eclipsed 100 yards rushing for the first time in his career, finishing with 114 on 22 carries. Lehigh held a 495-476 edge in total yards, including a 245-140
edge in rushing. Penn held a 336-250 advantage through the air.

GAME THREE: LEHIGH AT PENN • PAGE THREE
IMPROVEMENT, BUT...
WELCOME BACK
The Mountain Hawks made several positive
strides between games one and two but
it wasn’t enough to pick up a win at No.
22/19 Villanova. Lehigh’s defense limited
the Wildcats to six first half points as the
Mountain Hawks led 14-6 at the half and
21-20 in the fourth quarter, but 396 rushing
yards helped Villanova rally in the second
half. Lehigh’s offense gained 364 total yards
and held the ball for 30:26 after being limited
to just 239 yards and 22:22 time of possession
against Monmouth.
Lehigh returns five of the eight players
named to last season’s All-Patriot League
teams. Junior wide receiver Troy Pelletier
and senior linebacker Colton Caslow are
two-time all-league selections, who made
their first appearances on the first team last
year. Also returning is sophomore running
back Dominick Bragalone, who was a
first team All-Patriot League pick and the
Patriot League Rookie of the Year in 2015.
Lehigh’s bookend offensive tackles, senior
Zach Duffy and junior Tim O’Hara were
second team all-league selections. Pelletier,
Duffy, O’Hara and Caslow were named to
the Preseason All-Patriot League team in
early August.
COEN’S PENN CONNECTIONS
Saturday’s game marks Andy Coen’s second
meeting with Penn and first at Franklin Field
as a head coach, after spending six seasons
with the Quakers under Al Bagnoli prior to
his return to Lehigh. Coen spent six seasons
as Penn’s offensive coordinator where he
helped the Quakers to three Ivy League titles
and a top ten national finish in 2003. While
Coen led Penn’s offense, Quaker head coach
Ray Priore was Penn’s defensive coordinator
and secondary coach. Coen will be coaching
at Franklin Field for the first time since a
16-7 loss to Cornell in the 2005 season finale.
RUSHING TO VICTORY
In ten seasons under Andy Coen Lehigh has
had trouble winning games when it rushes
for fewer than 100 yards. The Mountain
Hawks have failed to reach the century mark
35 times under Coen and are 12-23 in those
games. When Lehigh has surpassed 100
yards during that time, it is 56-25. Lehigh
eclipsed the 100 yard mark in nine of 11
games last year and has gained more than
150 yards on the ground in 26 of 34 games
dating back to the start of the 2013 season.
The Mountain Hawks rushed for more than
200 yards in each of the last four games
last season but have just 198 rushing yards
through two games in 2016.
PENNSYLVANIA PROUD
The Mountain Hawks’ roster features 20
student-athletes from the state of Pennsylvania including four who played high
school football in the East Penn Conference (formerly Lehigh Valley Conference) or Colonial League. Lehigh’s local
contingent consists of senior quarterback
Nick Shafnisky (Whitehall/Whitehall),
senior linebacker Evan Kauffman (Bethlehem/Freedom), sophomore linebacker
Jake Buskirk (Whitehall/Whitehall) and
sophomore wide receiver Cam Richardson (Northwestern Lehigh).
FOUR CAPTAINS NAMED
Near the end of preseason camp, coach Andy
Coen named four seniors as captains for the
2016 season. Quarterback Nick Shafnisky
(Whitehall, Pa.), offensive linemen Zach
Duffy (Reading, Pa.) and Brandon Short
(Mentor, Ohio), and linebacker Colton
Caslow (Altamonte Springs, Fla.) will lead
this year’s squad.
BALANCE IS KEY
Last year’s numbers showed that when
Lehigh features a balanced offensive attack,
the Mountain Hawks enjoyed success. When
there was a difference of less than 100 yards
between Lehigh’s net rushing and passing totals, the Mountain Hawks were 6-1.
When the difference was more than 100,
Lehigh was 0-4. The Mountain Hawks had
a run-pass differential of 79 yards against
Monmouth but their attempt at balance was
negated by Lehigh’s first sub-300 yard total
offensive output since the 2014 Lafayette
game. Lehigh had a run-pass difference of
128 yards in its loss at Villanova.
FROM COAST TO COAST
The Lehigh coaching staff prides itself in
bringing in student-athletes from across
the nation. This season, 19 states are represented on the Mountain Hawks roster,
including California, Delaware, Florida,
Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts,
Michigan, Montana, New Hampshire,
New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Oregon,
Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Texas, Virginia and Washington.

LAST TIME OUT
LEHIGH AT No.22/19 VILLANOVA
VILLANOVA, Pa. (9/10/16) - In a
back-and-forth affair, No. 22/19 Villanova came-from-behind twice to take a
lead and then held off Lehigh’s late bid
at a game-winning drive as the Wildcats
handed the Mountain Hawks their second straight defeat, 26-21 at Villanova
Stadium.
The Mountain Hawks (0-2) used a
strong second quarter to take a 14-6 lead
into halftime but the Wildcats (1-1) outscored Lehigh 20-7 in over the second
30 minutes.
Villanova out-gained Lehigh 452-364
on the evening, racking up 396 rushing
yards, including 239 in the second half.
Junior Troy Pelletier led Lehigh
offensively with 13 receptions for 121
yards. Senior Nick Shafnisky completed
29-of-41 passes for 246 yards with one
touchdown and one interception. His
11-yard strike to senior Derek Knott
gave Lehigh a 21-20 lead with 8:03 to
play, but Villanova answered with an
eight-play, 83-yard drive culminating in
a Javon White two-yard touchdown run
on 4th-and-1 for the go-ahead score.
Early in the fourth quarter, Shafnisky
led Lehigh on a 10-play, 75-yard drive
capped by the tying touchdown pass to
Knott. Ed Mish’s extra point put Lehigh
up 21-20 with 8:03 remaining. Villanova
answered with a strong drive of its own
and facing 4th-and-1 from the two yard
line, White plunged in for his second
touchdown of the game.
Lehigh received the kickoff and began
to move the ball and worked itself out
of a 2nd-and-24 hole after a bad snap,
but facing 4th-and-10 from the Villanova 31, Pelletier was stopped a yard and
a half short of the marker on his 13th
reception of the game.
Knott was Lehigh’s second leading
receiver with seven catches for 68 yards.
Sophomore Dominick Bragalone led
Lehigh on the ground with 90 yards on
17 carries.

UNDER CENTER
THE MAN OF TROY
Senior Nick Shafnisky is in his third full season as Lehigh’s starting
quarterback. Shafnisky came into his own last season, completing
nearly 67 percent of his passes for 2,279 yards and 15 touchdowns
compared to just 10 interceptions in 11 games last year. He was also
a key cog to Lehigh’s ground attack, rushing for 674 yards and a
team-best 12 touchdowns. The Whitehall, Pa. product saved his best
for last in 2015, going 21-for-27 for 283 yards and four touchdowns,
while rushing for 109 yards and a touchdown to earn MVP honors
in Lehigh’s 49-35 win over Lafayette last November. Shafnisky owns
four career 300-yard passing games and a pair of 100-yard rushing
games. He enjoyed one of the best games of his career last year
against Penn, accounting for 345 yards of offense and a career-high
five touchdowns (three passing, two rushing).
Lehigh’s offense features a wealth of depth and talent at the wide
receiver position, led by junior Troy Pelletier. A finalist for the Jerry
Rice Award, given to the top freshman in the FCS, in 2014, Pelletier
showed no signs of a sophomore slump, leading Lehigh with 78
receptions for 831 yards and eight touchdowns last season. Among
Pelletier’s 78 catches were a school-record 15 receptions at Princeton
last September. Lehigh’s previous single game reception record was
14, a mark established six times by five different players, most recently Lee Kurfis at Columbia in 2013. Lehigh Hall of Famer Rennie Benn
‘86 caught 14 passes in a game on two separate occasions. Pelletier
was held to two catches just versus Monmouth, but bounced back
with 13 catches for 121 yards at Villanova.
LEHIGH VS. IVY LEAGUE ON THE GRIDIRON
A DOM-INANT FRESHMAN SEASON
Last year, tailback Dominick Bragalone became the first Lehigh
freshman to eclipse the 1,000 yard rushing mark on the way to becoming Lehigh’s first Patriot League Rookie of the Year for football
since 1986. Bragalone’s 179th and final carry of 2016 was a 44-yard
touchdown run, which put him over the 1,000 yard mark. His 1,008
yards mark the 10th highest single-season total in school history.
The South Williamsport, Pa., native had six 100-yard rushing games,
highlighted by a 169-yard effort against Georgetown. Bragalone has
scored a touchdown in five consecutive games going back to last
season and has seven touchdowns in that span.
Lehigh and Penn meet for the 59th time on Saturday but just the
second time since 2003. The Patriot League and the Ivy League
institutions both pride themselves on top notch academics. Lehigh has a substantial history against all eight Ivy members. The
Mountain Hawks are 12-13 against Ivy League opponents under
Andy Coen but have won 10 of the their last 13 against the Ancient Eight. Coen was Penn’s offensive coordinator for the three
most recent matchups between Lehigh and Penn prior to last
year’s meeting. This marks the ninth time in Coen’s 11 seasons
that Lehigh will face an Ivy League foe in that Ivy League team’s
season opener.
Much of Lehigh’s offensive success in 2015 can be attributed to an
improved offensive line. The Mountain Hawks’ top five linemen
have made 54 out of a possible 55 starts last season and paved the
way for a Lehigh offense that averaged 188.2 rushing yards and 274.3
passing yards per game. Three-fifths of that line is back this year with
All-Patriot League performers Tim O’Hara and Zach Duffy at the
tackle spots and Brandon Short at center. Seniors Micah Tennant and
Evan Sweeney and sophomore Liborio Ricottilli have been rotating
at the guard positions.

THE GUYS UP FRONT
Lehigh’s roster features two student-athletes who earned fifth
years of eligibility due to medical hardships. Wide receiver
Derek Knott missed the final nine games of 2014 but came back
to catch 32 passes for 395 yards and two touchdowns in his first
fully-healthy season last year. LaQuan Lambert was penciled in
for Lehigh’s new rover position last season, but suffered a season-ending injury in Lehigh’s opening-day win at CCSU.
A FRESH START
Lehigh has added 21 first-year student-athletes to its 2016 roster,
including several who could contribute right away. Five freshmen
have seen action in Lehigh’s first two games, led by Riley O’Neil,
who has seven tackles in two starts at free safety. Ryan Nace, Jon
Seighman, Jake Weir and Marquis Wilson have all seen action with
Nace recording a tackle for loss against Monmouth and the other
three contributing on special teams. Twelve of Lehigh’s 31 sophomores appeared in at least six games last year.

A WIDE VARIETY OF RECEIVING OPTIONS
MILESTONE WATCH
With a wealth of talent returning at the offensive skill positions,
Lehigh quarterbacks will have plenty of options in the passing game.
Led by junior Troy Pelletier, the Mountain Hawks return their top
six wide receivers from last season. Juniors Gatlin Casey and Sasha
Kelsey and senior Trevor Socarras each had three receptions versus
Monmouth to lead the Mountain Hawks, with Kelsey leading the
way with 48 yards and a touchdown. Fifth-year senior Derek Knott
had a strong game with seven catches for 68 yards and a touchdown
at Villanova. Lehigh also returns senior special teams standout Jarrod Howard and junior tight end Drew Paulsen to its deep receiving
corps. In all, Lehigh returns backs and receivers who accounted for
249 of its 254 receptions (98%) from last season.
Several Mountain Hawks are moving closer to career milestones.
CAPTAIN CASLOW MAKES HIS SEASON DEBUT
After missing the Monmouth game due to injury senior linebacker
and defensive captain Colton Caslow returned to the Lehigh lineup
at Villanova, contributing a team-best 10 tackles, plus a tackle-forloss. Despite missing two games due to injury last season, Caslow
led the Mountain Hawks with 95 tackles. He added eight tacklesfor-loss, including 1.5 in the season finale against Lafayette. Caslow
established a career-high with 17 tackles in last year’s season-opener
at Central Connecticut State. He now owns 10 career double-digit
tackle games, five of which came last season.
TURNOVER TROUBLES
One way Lehigh can help its defense improve is by creating more
turnovers, something the Mountain Hawks have struggled with
in each of the last two seasons. The Mountain Hawks had just 13
takeaways in each of the last two seasons. Last year Lehigh came
up with just five interceptions and eight fumble recoveries. On the
flip side, after losing just three fumbles as a team in 2014, Lehigh’s
23 giveaways in 2015 were the most in the Patriot League. Last
year, Lehigh finished minus-10 in turnover margin although the
Mountain Hawks were even in turnovers in their last four games.
Lehigh is minus one in turnover margin through two games. Sam
McCloskey made his first career interception against Monmouth
but Nick Shafnisky has thrown an interception in each of Lehigh’s
first two games.
JUST FOR KICKS
Ed Mish enjoyed a strong freshman season as Lehigh’s kicker,
converting 40 of his 43 extra point attempts and going 9-for-12
on field goals, with a long of 43 yards against Holy Cross. Mish
was 6-for-6 on extra points so far this season. He has also taken
over the punting duties for Lehigh, averaging 43.7 yards on seven
punts with three placed inside the opponents’ 20-yard line.
A SLUGGISH START
It took more than 30 minutes of football for Lehigh’s high-powered
offense to get going in its season-opening loss to Monmouth. The
Mountain Hawks were limited to just 19 plays for 49 total yards
through 30 minutes and were kept off the scoreboard. Lehigh was
only held scoreless in a half once in 2015, when the Mountain Hawks
were blanked in the first half in a 27-12 loss to Yale in what was
Lehigh’s worst offensive performance in an otherwise strong season.

POSSESSION PROBLEMS
While Lehigh’s defense limited Monmouth to just 23 points after
yielding an average of 35 points in 2015, the Mountain Hawks
were hurt by a large disparity in time of possession. Monmouth
held the ball for 37:38 and ran offensive 75 plays, compared to 52
for Lehigh. The Hawks also converted 7-of-15 third downs and
2-of-3 fourth downs to prolong drives. The last time a Lehigh
opponent held the ball for more than 38 minutes was Central
Connecticut State, which held the ball for 39:18 in the 2013 season-opener won by Lehigh in double overtime.

Lehigh has now started the season with consecutive losses three
times under Andy Coen. The Mountain Hawks will be looking to
pick up their first win earlier than the previous two Lehigh teams
to start 0-2. The 2009 Mountain Hawks lost their first four games,
while the 2014 squad started 0-5.
HITTING THE BOOKS
Following the 2015 season, Lehigh placed 22 student-athletes on the
Patriot League Academic Honor Roll. Returning offensive linemen
Micah Tennant and Aidan O’Carroll were two of the three Mountain
Hawks to register a perfect 4.0 grade point average during the 2015
fall semester. Tennant leads Lehigh with a 3.90 cumulative GPA in
mechanical engineering, sophomore business majors Brian Olshanski
and Harrison Kauffman hold a 3.83 and 3.74, respectively. Fifteen of
Lehigh’s Academic Honor Roll selections return this season, while
19 of the 64 non-freshmen on Lehigh’s roster own a cumulative
GPA of 3.0 or better.
SCOUTING PENN
The Quakers open their 2016 campaign after earning a share of the
Ivy League title in 2015. Penn bounced back from an opening day
loss to Lehigh to win seven of its next nine games, going 6-1 in the
Ivy League. The Quakers were picked second in the Ivy preseason
poll and return 16 starters, including first-team All-Ivy quarterback
Alek Torgersen and wide receiver Justin Watson. The Ivy League’s
top receiver last year, Watson is one of 22 players named to the
STATS FCS Offensive Player of the Year Watch List. Honorable
mention All-Ivy linebacker Donald Panciello leads the Penn defense.

LEHIGH HEAD COACH ANDY COEN
A fiery
and passionate
leader with a
unique ability
to motivate and
inspire today’s
student-athletes,
Andy Coen is in
his 11th year as
Lehigh’s head
football coach.
During his time
as the Mountain Hawks
leader, Coen
has produced
109 All-Patriot League
honorees, 22
All-America selections and 196 Patriot League
Academic Honor Roll student-athletes.
Coen has guided Lehigh to three Patriot
League titles in 10 seasons in Bethlehem, including back-to-back titles in 2010 and 2011. He has
twice been named a finalist for the Eddie Robinson
Award, finishing seventh in the 2010 voting and
sixth in 2011.
In 10 seasons, Coen has amassed an overall record of 68-46 (.596) and a 41-19 (.683) mark against
Patriot League foes.
Lehigh finished 2015 with a 4-2 league mark.
A 49-35 win over rival Lafayette, Lehigh’s sixth
in the last eight years over the Leopards clinched
a winning campaign at 6-5. A balanced offensive
attack kept Lehigh in every game with quarterback Nick Shafnisky leading the Patriot League’s
top-ranked offense. Freshman tailback Dominick
Bragalone became the first Lehigh freshman to
rush for more than 1,000 yards in a season and was
named Patriot League and ECAC Rookie of the
Year as well as being named a finalist for the FCS
Freshman Player of the Year award.
Eight Mountain Hawks garnered All-Patriot League honors in 2015 with sophomore wide
receiver Troy Pelletier and junior linebacker Colton
Caslow recognized for the second time.
Academically, 22 student-athletes were
named to the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll,
with seniors Cody Kondas and Chris Ruhl earning
Academic All-League recognition. Ruhl was also a
CoSIDA Academic All-District selection.
Coen coached five All-Patriot League performers in 2014 including three-time All-League
offensive tackle Ned Daryoush and punter Austin
Devine. Pelletier was a finalist for the Jerry Rice
Award, given to the nation’s top freshman.
Off the field, senior wide receiver Josh Parris
earning numerous academic honors including
being selected as a semifinalist for the William V.
Campbell Trophy.
The Mountain Hawks posted their fourth
consecutive winning season in 2013 with an 8-3
mark. Coen mentored nine All-Patriot League
selections including wide receiver Lee Kurfis, who
led the FCS in receiving yards per game and earned
All-America honors.
Under Coen’s guidance, Lehigh posted its
third consecutive ten win season in 2012. Lehigh
posted its fifth straight win over Lafayette and
finished in the top 20 of both national polls for the
third straight season.
Coen coached 11 student-athletes to All-Patriot League honors, with a trio of seniors recognized
as ECAC All-Stars. Seniors Zach Barket and Ryan
Spadola were CoSIDA Academic All-District selections, while Barket became Coen’s first Academic
All-American.
In 2011, Coen guided the Mountain Hawks to
their best season in a decade, one that featured an
11-2 overall record, a 5-0 Patriot League record and
Lehigh’s league-leading tenth football championship. The Mountain Hawks won 10 straight games,
including a 40-38 win at Towson in the second
round of the NCAA playoffs. Lehigh finished in
the top six in both polls and captured its eighth
Lambert Cup en route to being named ECAC FCS
Team of the Year.
With quarterback Chris Lum leading the way,
Lehigh ranked among the top five nationally in
passing offense and scoring offense. Lum finished
second in the voting for the Walter Payton Award.
Five Mountain Hawks garnered All-America
recognition, led by Lum and Spadola. Academically, Spadola and Barket were Academic All-District
selections.
The 2010 season saw Coen guide the Mountain Hawks to their ninth league championship and
Lehigh’s first outright league title since 2001. The
Mountain Hawks won ten games for the first time
since 2001 and posted the first undefeated Patriot
League season in seven years.
Lehigh qualified for the NCAA playoffs for
the first time since 2004 and went on the road to
defeat Northern Iowa 14-7 for the Patriot League’s
first playoff win in seven years, while finishing
the season ranked 14th nationally. For his team’s
success, Coen was named Patriot League Coach of
the Year.
Eighteen players were named to All-Patriot
League teams, while four players earned All-America honors, including offensive lineman Will
Rackley ’11 who was Lehigh’s first Associated Press
first team All-America since 2004 and was drafted
by the Jacksonville Jaguars in the third round of the
NFL Draft.
The 2009 Mountain Hawks led the nation
in sacks with 39 and ranked 12th in America in
tackles-for-loss with 83. Linebacker Matt Cohen
‘10 became the first player during Coen’s tenure to
earn a major award from the Patriot League as he
garnered Defensive Player of the Year accolades.
Cohen went onto earn All-America laurels from
four different outlets while Rackley was honored
by one.
During the 2008 season, Coen led Lehigh to
a 4-2 Patriot League mark, which included a 31-15
victory over archrival Lafayette. Nine players
earned spots on the All-Patriot League teams,
while four student-athletes garnered All-America
accolades. Off the field, 12 Mountain Hawks were
named to the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll,
led by Brendan Van Ackeren ’09 who also earned a
spot on the ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District Team.
In 2007, Lehigh ranked second in the Patriot
League in scoring defense (21.1 ppg) and scored
30 or more points on four occasions, including a
45-0 shutout win over Georgetown – the program’s
first shutout victory since 2002. Coen coached 10
All-Patriot League selections and six All-Americans; marking the first time since 2004 Lehigh
produced an All-American.
Coen led the Mountain Hawks to a share of
the Patriot League Championship in his first-ever
season as a head coach in 2006. The Mountain
Hawks boasted a balanced attack on both sides
of the ball, topping the Patriot League in scoring
offense (27.2 ppg) and defense (20.2 ppg). The
New Jersey native mentored 14 All-Patriot League
selections.
Coen became the 28th head football coach in
Lehigh history on January 3, 2006. That announcement marked his return to Lehigh, where he spent
six seasons as an offensive line coach – including
four as the team’s offensive coordinator.
Coen returned to Lehigh from Penn, where
he spent six years as the offensive coordinator with
the Quakers. In his six seasons in Philadelphia, the
Quakers captured three Ivy League titles, including a top ten national finish in 2003.
In his first stop at Lehigh (1994-99), Coen was
a part of three Patriot League championship teams,
including the 12-1 1998 squad. That team set a
school mark for the most wins in a season, while
reaching the NCAA Division I-AA quarterfinals.
Coen produced ten All-Patriot League
offensive linemen at Lehigh, while his teams twice
finished in the national top ten in passing offense
(1996, 1998). During Coen’s tenure as coordinator,
Lehigh produced four consecutive 1,000-yard rushers, including Rabih Abdullah ’97, who remains
Lehigh’s all-time leader in rushing yards (3,696).
Abdullah later went on to become the first Lehigh
player to win a Super Bowl as a member of the
2004 New England Patriots.
Before his original stint at Lehigh, Coen spent
four seasons at the United States Merchant Marine
Academy in Kings Point, N.Y. He also worked as
a graduate assistant coach at Minnesota and James
Madison.
A native of Cherry Hill, N.J., Coen earned
his bachelors in history from Gettysburg College
in 1986.
Coen and his wife Laura have three children:
a daughter, Molly (12), and two sons, Nolan (10)
and Finn (6).
