V5.x application for POTS/ISDN with PCOM4
With its V5.x protocol conversion
unit together with the POTS and
ISDN line interface cards and the
PDH E1 transmission unit,
MileGate provides traditional
telephony services within your
NGN equipment. Even more
PCOM4 enable operators a
smooth migration from legacy
TDM to the latest VoIP technology with a simple software
update.
■ V5.x Services in MileGate
■ Main Features for V5.1/V5.2
Within Next Generation Networks it is still important to
support TDM based voice
services. For this reason, PCOM4
together with the line cards and
transmission cards allows the
protocol conversion necessary
between the line cards facing the
subscribers and the V5.1 or V5.2
local exchange.
 Up to 30 subscriber per V5.1
PCOM4 provides V5.1 and V5.2
interfaces.
■ Main Features only V5.2
interface
 Digital switch interface sup-
porting POTS and ISDN-BA to
MSAN
 Upgrade to VoIP (H.248 or SIP)
possible with just a software
update
 V5.2 as replacement for
concentrators
 1:1 equipment protection
possible
■ V5.2 Features
■ Transmission with MileGate
 Two V5.2 or 16 V5.1 interfaces
 Protection Group 1 and 2
PCOM4 works in conjunction
with POTS and ISDN-BA line
cards at the subscriber side and
connected to the E1/G.703
uplink unit for transmission over
the PDH/SDH network or with
the circuit emulation unit for
transmission over Ethernet/IP
networks.
which are the service interfaces
between the local exchange
and the access node providing
on-demand service for POTS
and ISDN-BA subscribers
enabling different concentration ratios.
 V5.2 links/ V5.1 interfaces
connecting the local exchange
to the access node via the
defined physical layer, G.703
(E1). Every V5.x link/interface
can have up to 3 (with V5.2) or
2 (with V5.1) physical C-channels which are 64 kbps time
slots used to transmit logical
C-channels.
supporting protection of
physical C-channels (logical
C-channels are switched over
to a stand-by in case of link or
C-channel failure).
 Concentration. Depending on
the number of ports and the
number of V5.2 links associated to the V5.2 interface any
required concentration ratio
can be achieved.
 Equipment protection. An
additional PCOM4 unit can be
added to the subrack in order
to increase the availability of
the service.
■ Management System
MileGate units and the variety of
services are administered centrally by MCST/UNEM. Operators
save costs and accelerate the
provisioning process with only
one element manager for all
service types.
