Bookmark Bookmarks are helpful if you are reading multiple books during the semester as you are easily able to mark where you left off. Once you have added the bookmark, the window will close automatically and a small bookmark icon will be created on the page. To Access a Bookmark: There are two ways to do this. Depending on how spread out your bookmarks are, one way may be more convenient than the other. If there is a bookmark on the page that you are already on, click on it and the Bookmarks window will open. OR If there is not a bookmark on your current page, click on the Bookmark icon on the Study Skills toolbar to open the Bookmarks window. You will see a list of the bookmarks that you have created and can sort it either alphabetical order or reading order. Select the bookmark that you want then click Go To. Extracting the Notes and Highlights Once you have made all of your highlights and notes, you can create a word processor document that includes just those. It is helpful for study notes and when you are provided with specific items that you may be tested on. There is an icon that is inactive for this function on the Study Skills toolbar. If you feel this is a feature that you may use frequently, you can add it to the toolbar. Just follow the same steps were given to add highlighter colours to the toolbar. This time, though, you will add the Extract Annotations icon which looks like this: If you feel you may not use this feature often or would prefer to not add it to the toolbar, you can access this feature by doing the following: Click on file in the top left of the screen Click on Extract and select Extract Notes And Highlights from the submenu that opens up. A window will then open up and you can select which highlights you would like to use. If you are using different colour highlighters for different purposes, you can select only the ones you need. If you do not want certain colours indented more than others, just remove the indent value. There are also a number of different outline formats that you can choose from. When you have made your selections, click on OK. A new window will open with your notes and highlights in a word processing document. It will have the page of the file that the original text is found on as well as will keep the background colours for the highlights. You can type additional notes in this document if you would like. When you are finished with this file, be sure to save it. o Click on Save in the main toolbar. OR o Click on File and Save As in the menu bar. It will give you the option to save it in a number of different formats including in MS Word so you can have access to all of the formatting features in that program if you chose. Title the file and click Save to confirm.
