The Year 10 Employment Skills Week is a compulsory program that provides students with skills to move
forward into Year 11 and 12, gain qualifications for holiday employment and assist students with career path
planning.
Year 10 classes will be dissolved and students follow individual timetables determined by their choices from
a range of activities.
Attached to this sheet is an activity selection sheet. Students are required to submit their choices to the
Careers Office by Friday 19th October 2012.
Students wishing to select optional courses at extra cost will be offered a payment plan, and be required to
complete an enrolment form. Thank you for your support and co-operation.

Overview of activities for Employment Skills Week for Year 10 – 2012
Senior First Aid Certificate – Course cost is $130 per student. One day course to be held at Coffs
Harbour High School and delivered by Novaskill. 044-329
Basic Barista Course – Prepare and Serve Espresso Coffee. Course cost is $70 per student. One day
course to be conducted at Novaskill. 044-330
Food and Beverage Customer Service Certificate – Learn how to provide food and beverage service to
industry standards. Course cost is $70 per student.
One day course to be conducted at Novaskill. 044-331
Workplace Health & Safety White Card Course – Work safely in the construction industry. Course cost
$100. One day course to be conducted at school on Friday 23rd November. 044 351
NSW State Emergency Service (SES) Cadet Program – Full week course to be held at school by SES
volunteers. This course is designed to introduce students to life skills in emergency situations. Full
uniform is provided, and an excursion to visit local emergency service facilities is included. There is no
cost for participation, however places are limited to the first 20 students. Students who select this
option MUST be in attendance at school on Friday 12th October to be fitted for uniforms.
CHYFM Bronze Taster Radio Announcer Course – Learn the basics of being a radio announcer. This
course can be accredited towards additional training. Course cost $25. Minimum of 10 students
required. 4 hour course held at CHYFM Radio Station. 044-377
Taste of TAFE – Participating students get the opportunity to get a taste of TAFE courses available.
Sessions are available in Automotive, Metal & Engineering, Plumbing, Digital photography / 2D
Animation, Tourism & Events and Fashion Design. Bus cost is $3 per student. Activity open to all year
10 students, however places are limited to 15 per course.
SPORT – students not attending TAFE Taster will continue with regular sporting activities associated
to Wednesday afternoon sport.
2 Unit Mathematics session - This is highly recommended for any student who has chosen 2 Unit
Mathematics in their subject selections for the HSC.
BBQ and Beach Games at the Beach – Year 10 students will head down to the Jetty Beach BBQ area
for beach games and sausage sandwiches.
Work Experience – 26th Nov – 30th Nov – Students not attending the Year 10 Tallebudgera camp are
required to do Work Experience and are responsible for finding their own placements. Students are to
discuss their placement with the careers office and complete the necessary paperwork to ensure they
are insured. Paperwork is available from the Careers Office.
