Job Description Service HMP Belmarsh -Pathways to Recovery Drug & Alcohol Service Job Title Foundations of Recovery Programme Facilitator Base HMP Belmarsh, Western Way, Thamesmead, London, SE28 0EB Reports to Team Leader/Service Manager Purpose of Job You will deliver and facilitate as part of a small team direct interventions to service users participating in the prison based Foundations of Recovery suite of groupwork. Foundations of Change, Foundations of Growth and Foundations of Life, supporting service users through engagement, transition and moving on to long-term recovery and aftercare. You will contribute to achieving positive outcomes in terms of crime reduction and reduced reoffending, increased abstinence and take up of structured treatment and recovery options where indicated. A key part of the role will be to facilitate the emergence and development of a recovery community within the prison. The purpose of the role is to provide high quality drug services to individuals within a prison setting and to contribute to the effective implementation of the Prison Services drug strategy. Building on this, the role will enhance effective liaison with relevant internal/community agencies to achieve a continuity of through care. You will also be expected to provide some 1-1 interventions to those enrolled on FoR and liaise closely with their allocated Pathways worker. In order to continue to develop referral and access opportunities, the post holder will be responsible for promoting and publicising the programme so that it maintains and increases its client base. The focus of all interventions will be: To reduce substance related harm to the individual, the prison and wider community Promote healthier life styles and increase offender choice and engender a recovery focussed community To provide a range of recognised psycho-social group work interventions To promote and support individuals into abstinence based forms of recovery To provide effective case management and coordination of the individuals treatment/action plan To provide effective coaching identifying and encouraging areas of strength, skill and opportunity for each service user To assertively refer service users into Mutual Aid To support service users into paid employment, social enterprise and/or relevant training or education where relevant. In fulfilling these aims the post holder will use recognised evidenced based interventions and up to date validated information. They will be responsible for contributing to the overall performance of the service to ensure that contractual output targets are achieved. They will also be required to record and input data and information in order that the service operates within contractual, administrative and financial requirements. The post holder will maintain high professional standards at all times, whilst ensuring measurable positive outcomes are achieved for the client group. The post holder will be expected to take responsibility for personal development, identifying personal training needs and participate in regular supervision and appraisal. The post holder will be required to work flexibly within an agreed number of hours to maintain the most appropriate level of service provision. To further facilitate this role the post holder will keep up to date with relevant safeguarding legislation and knowledge around recommended and evidence based interventions and practice guidance. Key Activities Support the implementation, delivery, management and development of the CRI Foundations of Recovery programme in group, pod working and 1:1 formats. Collaborative working with frontline staff in assessing service users, preparing individual recovery plans and motivating them to actively engage in their treatment journey. To support the delivery of interventions that are matched to both stage of recovery and level of intensity required by service users. Deliver Foundations of Change focusing on engagement, motivation and values. Deliver Foundations of Growth using recovery skills, wellbeing and getting connected. Deliver Foundations of Life developing depth, healing, abstinence, getting involved, on- going contact and recovery check-ups. Contribute to making premises fit for recovery. Keep accurate records of group work attendance and engagement. Work closely with mutual aid groups and community based recovery organisations. Developing and maintaining excellent working relationships within each of the seven reducing reoffending pathways both in custody and the community. Provide workshops and training to support the delivery of Foundations of Recovery programme as required to partner agencies. Creative and innovatively promoting benefits of the programme within HMP Belmarsh to clients, other stakeholders and partnership organisations. Providing all agencies involved including prison healthcare and Offender Management Unit with a comprehensive completion report. Seek to raise the profile of the programme by attending multi agency meetings and promoting the work of FoR. To assist with collecting information needed for monitoring purposes and commissioning requirements. Work within CRI’s Safeguarding Children and Vulnerable Adult policies. General terms of reference In the fulfilment of their role, the FoR Facilitator will: Keep abreast of developments in service, legislation and practice relevant to client group. Participate in training events as agreed with line manager and share with other staff/volunteers any new skills and knowledge. Participate in appraisal, supervision and Learning and Development processes. Collaborate effectively with partner agencies and bring a proactive approach to partnership work. Uphold all CRI policies and procedures and actively promote equality of opportunity in the course of your work. Maintain a safe and welcoming environment, ensure health and safety standards are adhered to. Undertake any other duties as instructed by line management that will contribute to fulfilling the project aims Person Specification Essential criteria: Knowledge of safeguarding children and vulnerable adult’s procedures. Considerable experience of working within substance misuse services and a clear understanding of the need for and ability to deliver quality services within a custodial environment. Experience of facilitating group work Knowledge of the recovery process and the contributing factors to treatment success, making long term sustained changes in drug and/or alcohol use, criminal behaviour and social functioning. Knowledge of a range of Psychosocial Interventions including MI, CBT, Node link mapping (ITEP) Ability to maintain professional boundaries and work effectively with partnership agencies. Demonstrate skills to undertake administrative duties. Confidence to work on own initiative as well as part of a team and ability to keep clam under pressure. Knowledge of the issues facing substance misusers including social care, family breakdown and health issues. Ability to work with and manage challenging behaviour. Ability to form trusting and constructive working relationships with offenders in a short space of time. Considerable experience of referral procedures to a range of treatment/community support agencies. Up to date knowledge of harm reduction strategies, and experience of promoting these messages to service users. Knowledge of effective interventions that lead to reduction in drug related crime. Commitment to reducing the rates of drug use within the prison service. Show commitment to facilitating positives outcomes for service users. Have the capacity and self-confidence to innovate.
