FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Kelowna Falcons inaugural United Way charity baseball game raises over $12000 July 16 (Kelowna) – Over 800 people graced the stands at Elks Stadium last Wednesday night for the ‘Falcons Play for United Way’ Charity ball game. The partnership with the Kelowna Falcons and United Way CSO was a first for the Falcons who offer only 2 charity nights in their season. The Kelowna Falcons hosted the event, donating all ticket sales. Adding to the total was the 50/50 raffle and sponsorship dollars all benefitting the United Way of the Central and South Okanagan/Similkameen community fund and 2015 campaign. Over $12,000 was raised on Wednesday night, making the evening a huge success in its first year. These funds will be invested in the United Way’s focus areas: providing supports for children and youth to reach their full potential, reducing the poverty challenges for families and building strong, healthy communities. “We had a great turnout for our very first ball game in partnership with the Kelowna Falcons”, says Shelley Gilmore, Executive Director of United Way CSO. “We are so grateful to the community as well as to our partners and sponsors in raising a substantial amount for the community.” The game itself saw the Falcons beat the Klamath Falls Gems in a 9-2 victory, to take the series sweep. Kelowna Falcons are currently leading the league and experiencing unprecedented success this season with many team members invited to the all-star game. “We are really proud of what the United Way accomplished with this event especially in it’s first year,” says Mark Nonis, GM for Kelowna Falcons. “We’re always looking for ways to give back to the community and the United Way is a great way to do it. We look forward to building on the success of this event year after year.” United Way CSO would like to thank all of their sponsors and partners for making this successful event possible: The Kelowna Falcons UBC Okanagan Jane Hoffman Group Your Dollar Store with More Papa John’s Pizza Capital News Castanet Kelowna NOW Global Okanagan K96.3 Bank of Montreal Delta Grand Okanagan Resort & Conference Centre Gennext Kelowna Paradigm Mortgage Pushor Mitchell LLP The Colin & Lois Pritchard Foundation About United Way CSO For 65 years, the United Way of the Central and South Okanagan Similkameen has served the region from Lake Country in the North, to Osoyoos and Princeton in the South.
