Project
"A
picture is
worth a
thousand
words"
Stage 1 – Choosing a picture
Look for a picture/ photo/image that you find meaningful and relates to some
historical/cultural/sociological/ scientific/ natural event or phenomena that you can
research.
Do not choose a personal photograph.
The project will be more fun and more meaningful if you choose something you do
not know much about to start off with. Then your research will be real, and a
challenge.
Show/send the picture to your teacher for approval. ([email protected])
Include the source of the picture/ photo/image and the name of the
photographer/artist (if known)
Here are some possible sites to help you find a picture/ photo/image.

Stage 2 – Describing the picture/ photo/image (approx. 100 words)
Describe in detail what you see. This requires no research. Relate to characters,
color, composition, mood, contrast etc. If your picture is very simple you may also
describe the impact (how it makes you feel) and why.
Stage 3- Explaining your choice (approx. 50-100 words)
What made you choose this particular picture rather than others you saw? What
did you reject and why? What do you think your choice shows about you? Explain.
Stage 4 – Planned research (approx. 50-100 words)
What kind of research do you intend to do regarding this picture/ photo/image
and why?
Here are some ideas. Find out about: the people, the objects, the location, the
time period, the historical/ social/political/cultural/scientific background, the
reason for taking the picture, the influence of the picture on others, the technique,
the value, the photographer. You may have other ideas.
