INVITATION TO APPLY FOR CERTIFICATION AND REGISTRATION OF INDIVIDUAL
ENVIRONMENTAL EXPERTS AND FIRMS OF ENVIRONMENTAL EXPERTS
1. Whereas Regulation 14 of G.N. No. 348 of 2005 directs that Environmental Impact Assessments
and Environmental Audits shall be conducted by Experts or Firms of Experts whose names and
qualifications are registered as such by the Council; and
2. Whereas Regulation 16 of G.N. No. 348 of 2005 requires that a person or a firm desiring to be
certified as an Environmental Expert shall apply to the Council.
3. NOW THEREFORE, The Council hereby invites eligible and qualified Tanzanians or firms to apply
for certification and registration as individual Environmental Experts or Firm of Environmental
Experts.
4. Applications shall be submitted to the National Environment Management Council through filling in
a Form to be obtained, at a fee, from the office of the Registrar of Environmental Experts. Where a
person or a firm intends to apply to conduct an Environmental Impact Study and an Environmental
Audit, two separate applications shall be submitted.
5. Application fees for registration of citizen individuals and local Firms are Tsh. 180,000/= and
360,000/=, respectively whereas foreign individuals and firms are 450,000/= and 900,000/=,
respectively.
6. Individual applicants should:
(i)
Possess at least a first degree in a relevant discipline or its equivalent from an accredited
University or Institution.
(ii)
Must have basic training in Environmental Impact Assessment and/or Environmental Audit.
(iii)
Have knowledge and experience in environmental management in general and competence in
carrying out Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) and/or Environmental Audit (EA).
(iv)
Provide an abstract of the EIA or EA report involved and a letter of recommendation from an
individual or firms that supervised your work.
(v)
Provide names of at least three referees who are conversant with environmental issues and
particularly Environmental Assessments.
7. Applying firms should note that:
(i)
Firms registered under other laws may apply to be registered as Consulting Firms of
Environmental Experts under these Regulations.
(ii)
They must have experience in carrying out Environmental Impact Assessment and /or
Environmental Audit.
(iii)
Firms of experts to be registered under these Regulations shall, within its members, have at
least two certified and registered Environmental Expert and two specialists from different
specializations.
(iv)
Firms must have specialists from different disciplines constituting a multi - disciplinary team.
(v)
They must not have been prior convicted of a professional or disciplinary offence.
(vi)
Firms shall, together with the application forms, present;

The name / names of persons who have been certified and registered to practice and;

The kind of expertise the firm intends to offer in the conduct or preparation of
Environmental Impact Assessments or Environmental Audits.
The applications, in duplicate, accompanied with the curriculum vitae, certified copies of relevant
certificates and the prescribed fees should be submitted to: the following addressee not later than
23 March 2017.

Please note that FOREIGN firms may only apply to carry out SPECIFIC environmental impact
assessment or environmental audit.
