INFORMATION FOR GRAND FINAL DAY
Grand Final round fixtures for this Saturday are now available online at the FDBA website. Again, the majority of the U8 matches are
later in the afternoon at EMC. Completely different from the times that they matches are all season. But grand final day fixtures are
always completely different to any other round.
Games scheduled are: · U8 Finals Participation Matches – all teams based on ladder position (1st v 2nd, 3rd v 4th, etc)
· Championship Final – teams that won “Top 4” semi-final match
· Bronze Medal Match – teams that lost “Top 4” semi-final match
· Reserve Final – teams that won reserve (5th – 8th) semi-final match
Presentations will be held after all games – all players will receive trophies / medallions.
$2 Door Entry is applicable for all spectators on the day - Spectators 5yrs and under are FREE
·
1 x coach & 1 x team manager per team are FREE – a sign in sheet must be completed upon entry
Door entry covers additional costs associated with running Grand Final round (including trophies, score bench official and additional staff)

Boys teams we have playing in: 8 Championship Finals, 4 Bronze Finals and 2 Reserve Finals
Girls teams we have playing in: 3 Championship Finals, 5 Bronze Finals and 1 Reserve Final.
Special mention to a few teams, U14 Boys Storm team, who finished 4th and beat the undefeated top team to make the Champhionship Final. And a new U10 Boys team this season, the Pistons, who were regraded in the last phase into a higher division, snuck into
4th place in the last round and then beat the top team to also make the Championship Final. What a fantastic effort from so many of our
teams on a successful season.

SAVE OUR STADIUM - SIGN THE PETITION
As many of our existing members know, the competition growth over previous years means this is
extremely important to the growth of the local domestic basketball competition. Our club alone has
expanded so quickly over the past years that we now exceed 55+ teams. As the largest junior club
participating within FDBA with close to 400 members, we need all of our members to show their
support towards this, so domestic basketball can continue to grow. So please make sure you show
your suuport and sign the petition!! I have included the recent information sent to the club.
FDBA COMMENT - As you are aware, FDBA is enduring unjustifiable pressure from Frankston City Council to sign a financially unsustainable lease that jeopardizes the future of our association and the stadium
redevelopment project. For an update on the current status please visit the Facility Expansion Press
Release page. FDBA will take all accessible measures to ensure a fair outcome is reached that serves the
needs of our membership and safeguards the future of our facility. One venture towards this goal is the
‘Save Our Stadium’ campaign – we would appreciate our domestic club delegates rallying around this
endeavour. To assist we would encourage all clubs to post the message below to all members, on your
website, social media channels, affiliated schools and any other outlets of communication.
TO THE MAYOR OF FRANKSTON CITY
The Frankston & District Basketball Association (FDBA) is the largest sporting association on the Mornington
Peninsula with over 14,000 participants per annum. The FDBA provides programs that are inclusive and allow
people of all ages & abilities to enjoy the sport of basketball based on their skill level and age. In 2016 the FDBA
had two of its representatives (David Andersen & Ryan Broekhoff) represent Australia at the Rio Olympics and
regularly hosts national and international level games each year.
In early 2012 the FDBA commenced a process for the redevelopment of the Frankston basketball stadium (90
Bardia Avenue, SEAFORD VIC). A facility which interacts with over 750,000 people per annum including half
the people in the Frankston municipality who play sport. Due to its density of usage, the Frankston basketball
stadium requires immediate refurbishment and expansion so the FDBA can adequately manage the future growth
trends of basketball participation in the Frankston municipality.
The last expansion of the Frankston basketball stadium was in 1991 when 4 additional courts where extended
onto the original 2-court stadium. The FDBA membership funded ($1.65 million) this expansion without any
outside financial support. In 2014 the FDBA secured $2.5 million from the state government of Victoria to kick
start the planned expansion of the stadium. At that time the FDBA committed $1 million of member’s money;
along with Frankston City committing $4 million. In late 2015 the federal government of Australia announced it
would contribute $4.95 million along with an additional $250,000 announced in late 2016 that was specifically for
the purchase of retractable seating which is currently outside council’s scope of works for the planned expansion
