Training requirements for the use of certain agricultural chemicals Sugarcane - Ground application of ametryn, atrazine, hexazinone or diuron Since 1 July 2010, anyone in the Wet Tropics, Burdekin and Mackay-Whitsunday catchments intending to apply or supervise the application of these herbicides to sugarcane crops using ground equipment must hold a statement of attainment issued by a registered training organisation stating that the person has successfully competed each of the following competencies: (A) AHCPMG301—control weeds (B) AHCCHM303—prepare and apply chemicals (C) AHCCHM304—transport and store chemicals Or, alternatively hold an unrestricted commercial operator’s licence under the Agricultural Chemicals Distribution Control Act 1966, have an equivalent qualification or a record of results issued by a registered training organisation demonstrating competency. Sugarcane—Aerial application of ametryn, atrazine, hexazinone or diuron Anyone in the Wet Tropics, Burdekin and MackayWhitsunday catchments intending to apply or supervise the application of these herbicides to sugarcane crops from the air must hold a pilot chemical rating licence under the Agricultural Chemicals Distribution Control Act 1966 or a pilot’s Spraysafe accreditation issued by the Aerial Agricultural Association of Australia. Grazing— Aerial application of tebuthiuron Operators grazing cattle on more than 2000 ha in the Wet Tropics, Burdekin and Mackay-Whitsunday catchments intending to apply or supervise the application of a herbicide containing tebuthiuron from the air must hold a pilot chemical rating licence under the Agricultural Chemicals Distribution Control Act 1966 or a pilot’s Spraysafe accreditation issued by the Aerial Agricultural Association of Australia. NOTE: Aerial application of herbicides containing tebuthiuron is NOT permitted between 1 November and 31 March.
