Random Name Generator Instructions for ACTIVInspire:
-Go to the following address…
-Go down to the 4th entry that looks like this:
-Create a new folder on your desktop and name it. (I named mine “randomCalhoun-math”.)
-Right click on the “randomFSAS.swf” file.
-Click “Save target as” and save this file to the new folder you just created.
-Next, right click the “classroom.zip” file.
-Click “Save target as” and save this file to the SAME new folder.
-You can now exit from this website.
-Open the new folder you have created.
-Click to highlight the “classroom.zip” file. (On my computer, it just showed up as
“classroom”.)
-Right click this file.
-Now, click on “7-zip”, then, “Extract here”. An XML file has now been created
and added to this folder.
-Click to highlight, then, right click on the XML file.
-Click “Open with Notepad”.
-You will now insert the student names into this document. The names ONLY GO
IN BETWEEN THE 2 ARROWS…><. DO NOT erase any thing else!!! Below is a
snapshot of one of my classes I created…you can see where I added the names:
-When you have put in all of the names, click “File”. Then click “Save”.
-You may now close out of this file.
-Now, open ACTIVInspire. You must have a blank flipchart open.
-Go to the Main Menu and click “Insert”
-Click “Link”
-Click “File”. From your desktop, double-click the new folder you’ve created.
Highlight “randomFSAS.swf”.
-Click on “Open” AT THE BOTTOM.
-A new screen will pop up. Where it says “Add link as…” check “image icon”.
-Where it says “Store as”, check “store file + directory in flipchart”.
-Where it says “Multimedia”, check “controller”. In this same location, make sure
the “autoplay” is NOT checked.
-Now, click “OK”. When you do this, a box will appear that says “Copying
directories might take some time. Do you wish to proceed?” Click “YES”.
-Finally, an icon will appear on your blank flipchart. When you click on it, the
generator will appear. It will say “Popcorn Words”. (There is no way to rename
this…sorry!) Some weird little music will also play.
-When you click the “L”, your classroom list should now load. Click the “N” to
choose a new name. You can resize this, too.
The GREAT thing about this generator is that when you
flip to a new page, the generator will flip over to the new
page, too. It will not reset each time!!!
***For multiple classes, you have to go through this
entire process for each class and create a new folder on
your desktop for each class. However, once you go
through it once, it’s not so bad the next time.
