Sosefina Leaitua (Samoa): A player whose physical prowess matched that of her sister, Sosefina
Leaitua played a lot more rep footy including a couple of seasons with the Auckland A team. Lacking
the real top-end speed that the Black Fern wingers of the time possessed, Leaitua was strong, robust
and possessed a mean fend that made her one of the hardest players anywhere to put on the deck.
She didn’t have much of a kicking game, preferring to return the ball by hand from her fullback or wing
positions, and always looked to attack. As well as being a formidable player, she was a strong off-field
presence and something of a social lion. Like many of her contemporaries in the Fillies, Leaitua had
her career interrupted by the birth of her children.
