Under City code, garbage carts may be placed at the curb at sundown the day before scheduled collection and must be retrieved from the curb by sundown after the collection. The carts must be placed in an inconspicuous area on the resident’s property. Residents who do not remove the carts from the curb in a timely fashion are subject to a $50 civil penalty. Citations will be mailed, with payment due within three days. Failure to pay the fine would result in City inspectors revisiting the residence and issuing a second citation if the garbage cart is still on the curb. Subsequently, additional citations will be issued against the residence fro each day the violation occurs until the cart is removed from the curb. The City is initiating the citations to address citizens’ concerns about protecting the appearance of Raleigh’s neighborhoods. …If you have a pothole on your street, report it.
