sports teams, venues and leagues enhance their environmental performance.
ABOUT THE GREEN SPORTS ALLIANCE
The Green Sports Alliance was conceived and founded by Paul G. Allen’s Vulcan Inc.
and the Natural Resources Defense Council. Since launching nationally in March 2011
with 6 professional teams and 5 venues as founding members, the Green Sports Alliance
has grown to over 240 teams and venues from 20 sports leagues.

Green Sports Alliance Members have made a commitment to improve their

Scott Jenkins | General Manager of New Atlanta Stadium, ABM Sports + Entertainment
Group (Chairman)
Scott Jenkins joined AMB Sports & Entertainment Group in February 2014 to provide
insight into the planning and construction of the new Atlanta Stadium leading up to its
opening in 2017, after which he will manage the operations of the stadium. Jenkins
comes to the Atlanta Falcons from the Seattle Mariners, where he spent the past sevenand-a-half years as vice president of ballpark operations and was responsible for
overseeing all aspects of operating and managing Safeco Field. Prior to joining the
Mariners, Jenkins spent three years with the Philadelphia Eagles where he opened and
managed Lincoln Financial Field. Scott has served as V.P. of Stadium Operations for the
Milwaukee Brewers and Director of Facilities and Events for Intercollegiate Athletics at the
University of Wisconsin. A native of Kenosha, WI, Jenkins graduated from the University of
Wisconsin in 1986 with a degree in Construction Administration and is a 2009 graduate of
the University of Washington Executive MBA program. While at Wisconsin, Scott was a
five-time All-American in cross country and track and was a member of the 1982 and
1985 NCAA National Champion Cross Country teams.
Joe Abernathy | Vice President, Stadium Operations, St. Louis Cardinals
As Vice President of Stadium Operations, Joe is responsible for all day-to-day building
operations and game-day event management activities at Busch Stadium. Joe was a
member of the design team for the new ballpark and was responsible for commissioning
the start-up of the new Busch Stadium in 2006. During Joe's 16 seasons with the St. Louis
Cardinals, the team has made it to the post season 9 times and have hosted 45 postseason games including 9 World Series games and 20 National League Championship
games. Busch Stadium and the Cardinals were the host of the 2009 Major League
Baseball 80th All-Star Game. Joe currently is the Past-President of the Board of Directors
of the Stadium Managers Association. He also serves on the Stadium Operations Advisory
Committee for Major League Baseball and is Co-Chairman of the Sustainable Operations
sub-committee. In this role he is spearheading the benchmarking of sustainable
operations metrics for all MLB facilities.
Stephen Ashkin | Executive Director, Green Cleaning Network
Stephen Ashkin is Executive Director of the Green Cleaning Network, a nonprofit
educational organization working to accelerate the adoption of Green Cleaning among
building owners and providers. He is often thought of as "The Father of Green Cleaning"
having worked on the issue for over 20 years formulating greener cleaning products,
developing standards and legislation, and implementing Green Cleaning programs that
reduce impacts on worker and occupant/fan health, environment and the bottomline. Among his accomplishments is being a founding member of the US Green Building
Council where he drafted the cleaning credits for their LEED for Existing Buildings Rating
System.

In his role as Arena General Manager, Darryl oversees building operations, guest
experiences, food & beverage operations and capital asset planning and
management. Prior to joining the Lightning organization, Darryl was the Assistant General
Manager for First & Goal, Inc. Here he managed the maintenance and engineering,
capital projects, fields, conversions and technical operations for Century Link Field and
Event Center and the Virginia Mason Athletic Center. Prior to that he was the Director of
Capital Planning and Projects where he was instrumental in the start-up, commissioning,
and relocation of the Seahawks to their new home in Renton. Darryl joined First & Goal
after working for the Experience Music Project and Science Fiction Museum (EMP|SFM)
as the Director of Facilities and Operations. Darryl worked 16 years for the base operating
service contractors at Naval Submarine Base Bangor. Darryl has a B.A in Business
Management from the University of Washington and also earned a Certified Facilities
Manager designation from IFMA in 2008.
Jennifer Carlson | Former Director of Sponsorship Sales, Seattle Storm (Secretary)
With an extensive background in sports including player management, activation and
partnership development, Jennifer Carlson has represented MLB player endorsements,
served as Director of Business Development & Activation Service at the Seattle Storm and
the Director of Partnership Activation/Services for the Orlando Magic. Jennifer is
currently the Director of Sales for SeaBright Holdings, an adjunct professor at Seattle
University in Sports Marketing and serves as the Secretary of the Board of the Green
Sports Alliance.

Val Fishman | Vice President of Corporate Partnerships, Bonneville Environmental
Foundation
Val is Vice President of Corporate Partnerships at Portland-based Bonneville
Environmental Foundation (BEF), an entrepreneurial nonprofit that finds innovative, highimpact solutions to meet some of the nation’s most pressing energy, carbon and
freshwater challenges. Val has extensive sales and management experience at large
and small for-profit companies. Her career in media included selling sports sponsorships,
and her interest in corporate environmental responsibility led her to start, design and
implement a sustainability program at Clear Channel Radio in San Francisco. In 2011,
she earned a LEED Green Associate credential, and recently she has been focused on
the expansion of BEF’s Water Restoration Certificate® program.
Dr. Allen Hershkowitz | Senior Scientist, Natural Resources Defense Council
Dr. Hershkowitz has been a Senior Scientist at NRDC for 24 years and is the director of
NRDC's Sports and Entertainment Greening Project, as well as its waste management
and paper industry projects. Allen serves on the DuPont Corporation's Biofuel Advisory
Board and has served on committees of the National Research Council, the EPA Science
Advisory Board, and the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry. His leadership
in helping the MLB, NBA, USTA and NHL ‘go green’ earned him the U.S. EPA’s 2008
Environmental Merit Award. A native of New York, Dr. Hershkowitz received his Ph.D. in

Michael Doyle | Executive Vice President and Arena General Manager, Vancouver
Canucks/Rogers Arena
Michael Doyle joined Canucks Sports & Entertainment at the beginning of the 2011.12
season. Michael’s responsibilities include initiating, developing and executing significant
new business opportunities, and creating and championing unique service strategies to
enhance fan experience at Rogers Arena. He is also responsible for overseeing the
execution of strategic plans for event management, concert marketing, food and
beverage, sustainability initiatives, and the expansion of various revenue opportunities
inside and outside of Rogers Arena. Michael brings with him 10 years of experience at
Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment, and in his last role as VP, Food & Beverage and
Security Services, he oversaw the F & B operations at four locations, supporting over 2000
employees. Michael’s extensive management experience is well rounded, and includes
positions such as General Manager for Blackcomb Mountain and Area Manager at
Disneyland Theme Park.
Mary Harvey | Founder, Ripple Effect Consulting
Mary Harvey has been involved in international sports management and governance for
the past 17 years. Prior to starting Ripple Effect, Mary was the COO for Women’s
Professional Soccer (WPS), seeing it through its launch in 2009. Prior to WPS. Mary was a
senior executive at FIFA, where she was responsible for the implementation of FIFA’s
development programs worldwide. Before joining FIFA, Harvey led client engagements
in the strategy practice of Deloitte in Boston. A lifelong athlete, Mary enjoyed an 8-year
career with the US Women’s National Soccer Team, winning Olympic Gold in 1996 and
the inaugural FIFA Women’s World Cup in 1991. Mary is the founder of Ripple Effect
Consulting, providing consulting services for organizations a seeking to incorporate sport
to achieve societal change. Areas include: sport policy development, design of social
and environmental sustainability platforms, programs and partnerships, and sport
governance. Mary holds an MBA from the Anderson School at UCLA and a BS from UC
Berkeley.
Jennifer Regan | Principal and Chief Sustainability Officer, We Bring It On, Inc.
Prior to joining We Bring It On in 2013 as Principal and Chief Sustainability Officer, Regan
founded and led AEG’s sustainability initiative, AEG 1EARTH, for 6 years. In her role as the
Global Sustainability Director for AEG she advised company executives on environmental
strategy and assisted division leaders with integrating sustainable practices into their
operations to achieve the company’s AEG 1EARTH 2020 Environmental Goals which
focus on energy and water efficiency, waste reduction, education and sustainable
purchasing for all AEG operating entities including Facilities, Sports, Events, Live
Entertainment, Touring, Festivals and Merchandising Divisions.

Martin Tull | Executive Director, Green Sports Alliance (Non-voting member)
As Executive Director, Martin manages the overall operations of the Green Sports
Alliance. He oversees all environmental impact reduction strategies, strategic alliances
and membership programs. Martin led the formation and growth of the Alliance from
the founding six pro sports teams to over 230 teams, venues and leagues today. In
addition to leadership roles at the Northwest Earth Institute and as a Director of
Sustainable Technology, he previously served in senior leadership positions in the outdoor
recreation industry and has been an elite rock climber and instructor for over 20 years.
Martin serves as a volunteer with numerous organizations including service on the
National Advisory Board of Climate Solutions, the Oregon Global Warming Commission
Communication Committee and the Advisory Council of E-Stewards.

Jason is the co-founder and founding chair of the Green Sports Alliance. He currently
manages sustainability initiatives at Vulcan Inc., the Seattle-based firm of businessman
and philanthropist Paul G. Allen. With a background in construction management,
architecture, urban planning and real estate development, Jason oversees companywide resource conservation programs, deployment of alternative energy and water
systems, and advocacy work for policies that support environmentally conscious
design. Jason also serves on the boards of the International Living Future Institute and
BioRegional North America. He is a Fellow at the Rundstad Center for Real Estate Studies
at the University of Washington and a mayoral appointee of the City of Seattle Green
Ribbon Commission.

Justin J. Zeulner, MBA, is the Senior Project Developer of Campaigns for Vulcan Inc.
Zeulner is responsible to integrate human behavior and value changes through
progressive public engagement and campaign development, conserving important
species, improving ocean health and reducing human climate impacts. Prior to joining
Vulcan Inc., Zeulner was the Senior Director of Sustainability and Public Affairs for the
Portland Trail Blazers and was responsible for the leadership and management of
corporate sustainability initiatives, public affairs and government relations for the
Portland Trail Blazers and the Rose Quarter.
