Enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society. Position Requirements Education/Certification: . . Experience: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university. Valid Texas teaching certificate with required special education endorsements/certification for assignments. At least one-year teaching experience with students with disabilities preferred. Special Knowledge/Skills: Knowledge of guidelines and subject area in curriculum and instruction. Knowledge of the Physical Education Standards for special needs students. Knowledge of adaptive physical education techniques for special needs students. Knowledge of Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) Committee process and individual Education Plan (IEP) goal setting process and implementation preferred. Physical Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress. Frequent standing, stooping, bending, pulling and pushing. Move small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks, and other classroom equipment. Frequent districtwide and statewide travel; frequent prolonged and irregular hours; outdoor exposure to sun and heat. Duties/Responsibilities Provides adapted physical education program to student with adaptive P.E. written into their I.E.P. Assess physical motor needs of students and plans appropriate program. Evaluates each student’s gross motor progress based upon assessed potential in physical fitness and physical growth to develop/revise an IEP for students assigned. Implements an instructional, therapeutic, or skill development program for assigned students and show written evidence of preparation as required. Plans and uses appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect understanding of the individual abilities and needs of students. Works cooperatively with classroom teachers to modify regular curricula as needed to assist special education students in general environments with assignments/activities. Use technology, including assistive technology in teaching/learning process. Observe the policies and administrative procedures for the education of disabled students. Gathers proper documentation for students that will be provided services. Implement the child-centered process for homebound services upon referral of a student on initial conference with the classroom teacher. Provide progress reports to the parents, the regular teacher and administrative staff. Assist the ARD committee and consult with regular and special education teachers to coordinate the home instruction. Assist with the coordination and implementation of the Special Olympics Program for the district. Perform any other duties as assigned.
