If you could talk to anyone in the world, who would it be? Discussion Questions: 1. There is no greater foreshadowing of the Messiah’s sufferings than from the prophet Isaiah in chapters 52:13-53:12. For an interesting exercise, read Isaiah 52:13-53:12 and write down how many prophecies were directly fulfilled in the life of Jesus in the last days of his life. 2. 3. The price that Jesus paid to achieve victory was great. First, he was abandon by his closest friends. Second he was counted worthless through betrayal. Thirdly, he experienced great public humiliation and shame. And finally, he endured a level of physical pain that was unspeakable. Which of these truths has strengthen you and given you hope, knowing that Jesus has gone through what you’re going through and that he knows how you feel and that he is an “ever present help in time of trouble?” Which of these truths impacts you in a fresh way and increases your appreciation and devotion to Jesus for the price that he paid for your freedom? As we look at Jesus we see a picture of the punishment for sin that should have been poured out on us, but that Jesus stepped in and absorbed on our behalf. What is the best response that we can give to Jesus for such intentional sacrifice? How should an awareness of the cost of sin and the price that Jesus paid, change our perceptive of sin and judgment? 4. Read Revelation 5. Talk about the observable contrasts between the victorious picture of Jesus in Revelation 5 and the depiction of Jesus’ suffering in Matthew 27’s courtroom scene and crucifixion. 5. How does Jesus’ sacrifice help to establish a sense of personal value? What are some of the ways that the world assigns value to us? What are some of the lies that we believe about our personal value? Why is it important to find our personal value in what God says about us? How can we be intentional to transform our thinking so that our personal value comes from Jesus and not from other sources? 6. Break into smaller groups of 4-5.
