JOB DESCRIPTION
Job title:
Learning Facilitator (Casual)
Reporting to: Learning Manager
Grade:
YMT SC1, point 10, £8.45 per hour / YMT point 22, £11.409 per
hour
Main Purpose of the Job:
To deliver high quality formal and informal learning sessions across all York
Museums Trust sites on an as and when required basis.

Core Responsibilities
Delivery of Activities
Undertake all necessary preparation for Learning Activities including setting up
the activities and ensuring appropriate materials are available.
Undertake all necessary training required for delivery of Learning Activities,
including collections care training, and attend development opportunities where
appropriate.
Delivery of activities and sessions as directed by the Assistant Curators of
Learning and/or the Learning Manager, ensuring a full knowledge and
understanding of the subject material as per the session notes and training.
Manage the timing of sessions to ensure completion within allocated timescale.
Explain activities and educational content in terms appropriate to audience.
Willingness to deliver sessions related to a variety of curriculum subject areas.

Work across all YMT sites as and when required.
Health & Safety
Supervise the use of premises and equipment being used during sessions in line
with Health & Safety policy and practice.
Monitor handling of objects and resources for wear and tear.
Supervise groups when using the galleries and exhibition spaces.
Development of Service
Assist with routine evaluation of learning programme, through formal and informal
methodologies.
Liaise with the Assistant Curators of Learning to develop new education
resources.
Assist with the training of other Casual Learning Facilitators to deliver formal
Learning Sessions.
Other
Promote York Museums Trust’s programme of Lifelong Learning to appropriate
audiences.
Act as a point of contact for school groups, keep informed on latest programmes,
sessions and events and promote these as appropriate.
Demonstrate commitment to equality and diversity and an understanding of how

Undertake any reasonable duties as are requested from time to time
commensurate with your grade.

Terms and Conditions
Reporting line
This post reports to the Learning Manager.
Salary
The salary for the post is £8.45 per hour (training rate) and £11.40 (teaching
rate) and is subject to annual review.
Probationary period
Appointments are subject to the successful completion of a six month
probationary period.
Annual leave
As a casual employee you are not entitled to receive paid annual leave. However, to
compensate you, you will receive 12.07% of your hourly rate for every hour you work,
which will be awarded to you in your pay at monthly intervals.
Hours of work
Your hours of work are those determined by the needs of the Trust. The Trust is
not obliged to offer you work. You are not obliged to accept work offered by the
Trust.
Pension Scheme
You will be enrolled into the North Yorkshire Pension Fund on the first day of
employment. If you wish to opt out of the pension scheme, you can do so by

Period of Notice.
The period of written notice required for you to terminate this post is 1 week. The
Trust will give you 1 week’s written notice.
