Utah Area Al-Anon Service Position - Utah

Utah Area Al-Anon Service Position
Position Title: Delegate
Please describe what your current al-anon service position has done for your own personal recovery.
I have always thought of Al-Anon service as an extension of my recovery; every position I have held
has given me the opportunity to practice new ways of perceiving, thinking and behaving. Serving as
Delegate has confirmed this observation. At my first World Service Conference I was able to review
and renew my recovery at very deep levels. Old issues of fitting-in, wondering if I really had
something to contribute, and overcome lingering childhood fears arose anew. But just like at my first
Al-Anon meetings, the members of the Fellowship reached out to me and to each other to support
everyone, including me, in confronting our worries.
If you want to experience personal recovery at the deepest levels, stand for Delegate.
What are the duties of your current service positon and how much time is required to fulfill the
duties?
“The Delegate is a channel through which information flows. The conscience of Al-Anon can work
effectively only if it is informed. Much depends on the Delegate being thoroughly familiar with the
Service Manual throughout his/her term of service.
 S/he brings to the Conference the viewpoint of his Area on matters affecting the entire
fellowship and returns to his Area with a broader perspective of Al-Anon worldwide.
 S/he is the bridge of understanding that links the groups in the Area with world AlAnon/Alateen to help them continue to function in unity.
 S/he is the servant of Al-Anon as a whole.” World Service Handbook, p. 160.
