Caring for Everyone, Learning Together, Achievement for All 23rd May 2016 Dear Parents/Carers, I propose to go through all the details of the London visit at an information meeting for parents/children on Thursday 26th May at 3.15pm. For those who cannot attend this meeting I have put many of the details in the following letter. If anyone has questions about this visit please bring them along to the meeting or do not hesitate to ask me at any time. Tuesday 14th June Meet at Oxenholme Station at 08.05, ready for train at 08.23. Arrive at Euston at 11.14. Take tube to South Kensington and drop off luggage/check in to hostel Walking tour round sights of London Flight on London Eye Return to South Kensington by tube Meal at Nandos, 6.30pm Wednesday 15th June Tube to St Paul’s , tour of the cathedral including the Whispering Gallery Tube to Piccadilly Circus , walk to Apollo Theatre for matinee performance of ‘Wicked’ @ 2.30pm Return to South Kensington by tube Meal at Giraffe, 6.30pm Thursday 16th June Docklands Light Railway to Greenwich Visit to Greenwich Observatory and Planetarium Tour of Cutty Sark Return to South Kensington Meal at Bill’s, 6.30pm Friday 17th June Pack and check out of hostel but leave luggage Tube to Natural History Museum/National Science Museum Return to hostel to collect luggage Tube to Euston for 15.30 train, purchase snack for on train Arrive at Oxenholme 18.08 Staff/Children 30 children : 10 from Beetham, 20 from Old Hutton 3 staff : Ms Nicholas, Mr Cooper – Yr 5 /6 teacher at Old Hutton, Mrs Birch – Yr 5/6 teaching assistant at Old Hutton, 2 volunteers : Mr Healey – trainee teacher with Yr 5/6 at Old Hutton, Mrs Handy, Beetham parent This is a ratio of 6 children to 1 adult which is well above the recommended ratio for visits of this type Caring for Everyone, Learning Together, Achievement for All Equipment ‘Cabin size’ small suitcase on wheels which the children can manage themselves as they will have to take this on the tube on the first and last day. Small rucksack/daybag for packed lunch, drink, waterproof Enough clothes for 3 days including night wear – please check forecast and pack appropriately (no football strips) Towel/toiletries – no aerosols Sensible and very comfortable shoes for walking in all day – well-fitting trainers are ideal Sun hat/suncream Waterproof coat Watch and small torch Packed lunch for the first day Reusable drinks bottle ( no cans or cartons) Camera – optional Wallet/purse containing spending money – maximum £25 Small game/book/activity for on train No electrical items to be brought – (phones, ipads, etc) except small hairdryer if necessary Medical Information Please complete Form C with as much detail as possible Any medication must be clearly labelled with instructions and given to Ms Nicholas Health and Safety Ms Nicholas and Mr Cooper have led 2 previous school visits to London, staying at the Holland Park Hostel. They have recently carried out a full risk assessment following a day visit to London to check on all journeys the children will be taking and all attractions they will visit. A detailed risk assessment has been submitted to the Local Authority education visit adviser, Mr Matthew Ellis, for authorisation. This ensures 24 hour LA support during the visit. All children have been involved in role play to prepare them for a range of situations eg travelling by tube, walking through London, meeting strangers, separation from the group Communication Parents will not be contacted during the visit unless there is an emergency All parents at Beetham will have Ms Nicholas’ mobile number Ms Nicholas will aim to send information/photographs to school for the website during the visit but please bear in mind that constant supervision of the children must take priority I will give parents/children an opportunity to ask questions during the meeting on Thursday but if there is anything in the meantime, please do ask.
