Lessons From Behind the Glass Video Series
BC Hockey is excited to announce that the Lessons From Behind the Glass video series will launch with the
first video on Friday, September 9, 2016. The video series features 10 short “lessons” based on the book
Lessons From Behind the Glass, by author Allyson Tufts.
With appearances from Vancouver Canucks President of Operations, Trevor Linden and Canucks alumni Kirk
McLean, numerous BC Hockey coaches, parents, players and officials, the Lessons From Behind the Glass
video series offers real testimonies. Tufts provides the framework of each lesson, while these honest truths
and stories back up each point, providing a valuable look into the world of minor hockey. Although centered
around hockey, the lessons taught in the videos can be applied across all sports.

The first lesson, Don’t force your passion, your child will find their own, features interviews from Tufts, her son
Brock and BC Hockey coaches. In the video, Nanaimo Minor Hockey Association (MHA) coach, Mike Sexton,
says it best when he says, “The more you push, the further you push your kids away.”
"I am so excited about the release of the video series,” added Tufts. “I am hopeful that it will offer some
helpful advice to hockey parents so that we can create a positive atmosphere in arenas across BC and
Canada for our young players."
The Lessons From Behind the Glass videos will be posted on the Parent Education page of the BC Hockey
website. The second video will be posted on Monday, September 12, 2016, with a new video following each
week until November 7, 2016.
The Lessons From Behind the Glass video series was created in partnership with the Vancouver Canucks
and Tufts as a supplement to the Sportsmanship Starts in the Stands program that was launched in 2015.
The purpose is to continue to promote sportsmanship and positivity in arenas around BC and the Yukon.
