Games are played on Saturday or Sunday. There are usually 8 regular season games, with the potential for playoff games and the Super Bowl. ● The season begins in beginning of August after 2 weeks of Summer Camp and continues through the second week of November. Attendance at all games and practices are essential to continue with the Avondale Jr. Yellowjackets. ● Cheerleaders cheer at our football games in support of our players. Cheerleaders compete in Mega Cheer which the last weekend in October. Football players and families attend in support of our cheerleaders. ● Avondale Jr. Yellowjackets is a volunteer organization. Volunteering is critical to the success of our program and is expected of every family (See previous page for a complete list of volunteering opportunities). A volunteer payment is required to ensure fulfillment of volunteer duties. The volunteer payment will be returned upon completion of volunteer activities at the end of the season and the return of all equipment (See below). If volunteer activities are not fulfilled, returning participant status may be rescinded. ● Avondale Jr. Yellowjackets require equipment deposits for football or cheer equipment that your child is using on loan from us. An equipment deposit is required for every football player and cheerleader. The equipment deposit will be returned upon return of equipment at the end of the season. If equipment is not returned, returning player status will be rescinded and banquet participation will be in question. ● Avondale Jr. Yellowjackets require everyone to abide by our Code of Conduct. A signature is required as acceptance of the terms of our policies. ● Payment via cash or WePay (credit card) is expected at the time of registration. New applicants will be placed on the roster, space permitting. Once the roster is full, you will be placed on a waiting list. ● Players are not considered registered until payment is received in full. ● All coaches, assistant coaches and board members are subject to background checks. 2017 Avondale Jr. Yellowjackets Welcome Packet Welcome Packet PARTICIPATION RULES 6 Practices – In order for all of our children to benefit from the program, practices are necessary. When a child misses practice, it affects the entire team. Therefore, the following rules will apply to all participants: Football players and cheerleaders can have no more than 1 unexcused absence per week If a player/cheerleader misses a practice, you must contact the respective GM All players/cheerleaders are expected to be fully prepared at the start of each practice. There is currently no refund for registration fees once the participant is placed on the roster. Roster is set on June 1st. When does the season start? The season starts August 1st with summer camp scheduled to start on July 17. Please plan vacations accordingly. How many days a week do the football players & cheerleaders practice? Initially, football practices are Monday through Friday from 6pm to 8:00ish. Cheer practice are three days per week from 6-8pm. Once the game schedule starts, practices are Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday evening with a game on Saturday or Sunday. Verify your email on TeamSnap for communication. Where do we practice? Practices take place on the athletic field at Avondale Middle School - 1445 W. Auburn Rd., Rochester, MI 48309. Note: Locations can change depending on the availability of the field. Every participant is expected to attend every practice and every game as well as Mega Cheer. Please see participation for rules Where are the games played? Home games will be played at the Avondale High School – Dick Bye Field; 2800 Waukegan Street, Auburn Hills, MI 48326. Away games are played against NYFL league members such as Brandon, Clarkston, Lake Orion, Lapeer, Oxford, and Waterford or Grand Blanc. What are the game times? Game times are usually: Freshman - 1pm and JV 3pm, but vary based upon location and availability of the field. F o o t b a l l c oaches and players are required to arrive 2 hours before the game for weigh in (football), equipment check, and warm up. Cheer coaches and cheerleaders must arrive 1 hour before game time for warm up. What else do I need? Additional items to be purchased by the Parent/Guardian are football cleats and white sneakers for Cheer, mouth guards (LOTS!), gloves, base layer (when cold), athletic support with cup (football) and reusable water bottle or thermos with player name for practice. 2017 Avondale Jr. Yellowjackets Welcome Packet Welcome Packet Avondale Jr. Yellowjackets Volunteer Participation/Equipment Agreement 8 I understand that my child's participation in the Avondale Jr. Yellowjackets Football and Cheer is contingent upon my participation as an adult volunteer. I understand that if I do not abide by the volunteer policy requirements for the current season as described below, my volunteer payment will not be returned and that my son(s) and/or daughter(s) may lose their returning player status for the following season. Every Parent/Guardian will be required to submit a Volunteer and Equipment deposit, which will be returned at the end of the season after you have completed your volunteer duties and returned all equipment. PARENT VOLUNTEERS are critical to the success of our program. Game day activities include, but are not limited to: chain gang, spotters, announcer, action pictures, game day reporter, game clock, 50/50 raffle, and concessions. All families will be required to help a minimum of 6 times. Sign up will start at the first parent meeting. At the end of the season, your payment will be returned to you after we have confirmed all requirements are met. We strive to create an opportunity for kids to work together as a team toward common goals. We emphasize sportsmanship, teamwork and respect for authority figures (Board Members, Coaches, and Game Officials). We recognize the impact we may have on the future of our high school programs. Our focus is on developing good life skills through the sports of football and cheerleading. The Avondale Jr. Yellowjackets will not tolerate verbal or physical abuse of its volunteer coaches, referees, or players from any Parent, Player, or Spectator. Spectators, as well as the players and coaches, are expected to abide by the code of conduct described here at all events. While most of the adults and children in the program will abide by this code without being instructed, it is being published to protect the children, the integrity of our program, and emphasize the values of the Avondale Jr. Yellowjackets. Coaches Code of Conduct: As a Team Coach, you (through your actions and words) set the example for your players, parents/guardians, and spectators. You set the tone and lead by example. Read the players’, spectators’, and parents’ codes. Understand what is being asked of all participants in your sport. Actively promote these codes. Coaches must place the well-being and safety of each player above all other considerations, including the development of performance. Ensure that each player is correctly dressed with the necessary safety equipment (helmet, mouthpiece, pads, etc.) before being allowed to play. Get treatment for an injured player immediately. Cooperate fully with medical personnel in the best interest of the player. Never either physically or mentally push children beyond their abilities. The game is of minor consideration when compared to the child's future health and well-being. Encourage and guide players to accept responsibility for their own behavior and performance. Never condone unacceptable behavior. Accept the decisions of the game officials on the field as being fair and called to the best ability of said officials. The officials are in charge of all games; their decisions are final. Always be prompt, courteous, and direct when dealing with the League Officials, opposition coaches, and Referees. Read the NYFL Official Rules and assist your players and parents in understanding them. Display any unsportsmanlike behavior. Criticize my teammates or players from other teams. Act in any way that may incite spectators. Parents/Spectators Code of Conduct: As a parent or spectator, I will: Support the coaches, players, and/or cheerleaders and help teach the value of commitment to the team, sportsmanship, ethical conduct, and fair play. Respect the other team and their field as we expect them to respect our home field. Support my child's team and help my child make athletic contests a positive educational experience. Direct constructive criticism to the GM of your respective sport at an appropriate time. I will work toward a positive result for all concerned. Accept decisions of the game officials (including coaches) on the field as being fair and called to the best ability of said officials. The officials are in charge of all games; their decisions are final. Exhibit exemplary sportsmanship at all times. Emphasize that good athletes strive to be good students that are physically and mentally alert. Strive to make every football/cheerleading activity serve as a training ground for life, and a basis for good mental and physical health by being present to support the children. Abstain from being under the influence of or in possession of and/or drinking alcoholic beverages and the possession or use of any illegal substance on both the game and practice fields. Abide by Michigan law that prohibits smoking on school property (Penal code Act 328 of 1931: 750.473 Use of tobacco product on school property prohibited; violation as misdemeanor). Stay behind the designated spectator line during a game and practices. As a parent or spectator, I will not: Interfere/interrupt the coaching staff during games or practices. Criticize officials or coaches, direct abuse or profane language toward them, or otherwise subvert their authority. Criticize an opposing team, its players, coaches, or spectators by word of mouth, by gesture, or by deliberately inciting unsportsmanlike behavior. Undermine, in work or deed, the authority of the coach, Referees or Board Members. 2017 Avondale Jr. Yellowjackets Welcome Packet Welcome Packet 9 Consequences of Behavior: At any event, practice, or competition, any adult who verbally abuses, attempts to intimidate, is flagrantly rude to, or does not control their language or actions with a player, official, coach, spectator, or board member will be asked to leave the event. He or she will receive written warning regarding their behavior. If the spectator fails to leave upon request, law enforcement authorities may be called to remove the spectator. Any adult that commits a second similar offense will be banned from events for the remainder of that season. Any adult who physically assaults an official, coach, or board member will be banned for one year from the date of the offense. After one year, the parent may apply for reinstatement. If the adult commits a second offense, he or she will be permanently banned from the Avondale Jr. Yellow Jackets. All questions, complaints, and comments need to be addressed with the GM of Football or Cheer. All players and their respective families are not to approach a coach to discuss a practice, game or any situation that occurred during an event in which an adverse emotional response or a hostile situation has been provoked for at least 24 hours after the situation. This ensures a clear head for all parties involved and will result a more positive outcome. To accomplish this goal we need each team member to participate in fundraising. The required amount that each player needs to raise is $400. If a team member does not reach their goal, they will be required to write a check for any amount short of the $400. The total amount will per player will be adjusted to allow for multiple players within one family. All fundraising payments must be made for a player to remain eligible to participate. By signing this agreement, I agree to the above terms and am obligated to fulfill the fundraising efforts that support the Avondale Jr. Yellowjackets Youth Football and Cheer Programs.
