ELYSIAN FIELDS HIGH SCHOOL LADY JACKET BASKETBALL
PLAYER EXPECTATION AGREEMENT 2015-16
1. PLAYER CODE OF CONDUCT—I understand and agree that my behavior and conduct must be consistent
with all school rules concerning dress and behavior, both in and out of the classroom as well as on all school
sponsored trips. I further agree that my coaches may impose more stringent guidelines concerning my dress
and behavior. Any breach of these guidelines will result in disciplinary action which will be determined by
the coaching staff.
2. GAME CONDUCT – I understand that it is my responsibility to be with my team at both home and away
games. I will travel with my team; I will eat with my team; and I will sit with my team. I will not sit with or
talk other friends when I am supposed to be with my team. At all home games I will sit with my team behind
the home bench or other designated area during earlier games until it is time to dress for my game. After all
games, both home and away, I will not leave the court area to talk to anyone until I am released by my coach.
Once released, I may sit wherever I like.
3. LEAVING THE TEAM—If a player decides to quit or leave the team once the season has started (after the
first two weeks of practice) she may not return that season. However, if she has left in good standing, she
will be allowed to play in subsequent years if she desires. “Good Standing” refers to handing in all
equipment satisfactorily and with agreement of the Head Coach. If a player is removed from the team for
disciplinary reasons, she may also be allowed to return the next season, upon approval of both the Athletic
Director and the Head Coach.
4. PRACTICES AND GAMES—I understand and agree that I will abide by the rules concerning my
attendance to all practices and games as defined below:
 PRACTICES
Note: No one will be allowed to practice or play without a current completed physical as well as the
supplementary forms required by EFISD.
o If a player misses one practice that is unexcused (as determined by the head coach) she will be
required to do make-up drills and/or running to be decided by the coaching staff.
o If a player misses a second practice that is unexcused she will miss the next game as well as running
make-up drills and/or running.
o If any player misses a third practice that is unexcused she will forfeit her right to play and be
suspended from the team for the remainder of the season.
o Each player is responsible for contacting one of her coaches in advance if she will miss any practice,
game, or meeting. It is not enough to contact the school office; she or her parent must personally
talk to one of the coaches.
o Examples of unexcused absences: Failure to call the coach, Illness or injury that does not require a
visit to the doctor, being held out of a practice or game as punishment by parent for behavior or
grades, out of town trips during the season (including holidays) unless it is due to death or illness in
family, missing a practice or game because player does not have transportation to the school,
checking out of school without talking to a coach. Players should still attend practices when ill or
hurt, unless they are running a temperature or under a doctor’s care.

 GAMES
o Any player who has an unexcused absence from a game will not be allowed to suit out for the next
game.
o If any player has a second unexcused absence from a game she will be suspended from the team
for the remainder of the season.
o Also, please be aware that a player may or may not maintain her position on the team if she has
unexcused absences from practices or games, depending on the circumstances.
 CAMPS
Players are not required to attend summer camps in order to play basketball. However, players
should understand that the division of Varsity and Junior Varsity will be determined by the overall
effort, attitude and participation by those who work the hardest to improve their skills at all times of
the year.
5. INTERACTION WITH COACHES—I understand and agree that I will treat my coaches with respect at all
times and I will not exhibit any behavior toward them by my actions or verbally that is inappropriate.
Further, I understand that the coaches have the right to send me to the dressing room during a game or
practice and that it is the sole decision of my coach. Any infraction will result in discipline as determined
by my coach._______________Initials
6. EQUIPMENT—I understand and agree that any equipment issued to me not limited to and including travel
shirts, uniforms, basketball shoes, etc. are my responsibility and I agree that I will pay for any of these items
that I lose or damage in any way. Further, I agree to abide by the coaches’ rules concerning dress code for all
games. I will wear the appropriate clothing that is requested by the coaches. I agree to wear the travel shirt,
if one is issued to me, and I understand that I may not be allowed to accompany the team if I am not dressed
in the appropriate clothes, or I will do extra running and/or conditioning for this violation. If requested I
agree to provide my own pants or slacks at my own expense as part of the travel uniform. ________
7. GRADES AND CLASSROOM BEHAVIOR— I understand and agree that I will make every effort to excel
in the classroom and that my behavior will be appropriate for a member of the Girls Basketball Team; and
that I can be removed from the team due to bad behavior or grades. (Team members are not expected to
spend time in SAC for failure to follow school rules. If a player is sent to SAC one time she will be expected
to do extra running and conditioning for the same number of days for the first offense; Should a player be
sent to SAC a second time, she will do the extra running for 5 days plus miss the next scheduled basketball
game; however, should a player be sent to SAC for a third time, she will forfeit the right to be on the
basketball team for the remainder of the season and must turn in all equipment to the head coach
immediately. Once a player is removed from the team for discipline reasons, she may not return that season.
Playing basketball is a privilege (not a right), and all players are expected to abide by all school rules at all
times, both in season and out of season. It should be further noted that basketball players are held to a higher
standard than regular students and must exhibit acceptable behavior at all times of the year, and not just
during basketball season.
Regarding this rule, the definition of SAC time is when a player is assigned five days or less. In the event a
player is assigned more than five days at a time, it will be considered one SAC visit for each 5 days. Also,
any player who is assigned to DAEP will forfeit the right to play immediately. Any player who is suspended
from school for any reason will be suspended for one basketball game and will do extra running as
determined by the coach. A second suspension from school will result in that player being removed from the
team for the remainder of the season. ________________Initials
Player Expectation Agreement
Page 2
Note: The rules regarding SAC time and other behavior apply during the entire year and not just during
basketball season or during the school year. For example, a basketball player that goes to SAC during
volleyball season would suffer the same penalty, except that the running/conditioning would start the first
week of basketball season. A player who is proven to violate any part of this agreement at any time would be
subject to the penalties regarding that behavior.
Note: The use and/or possession of alcohol, or other illegal drugs will not be tolerated. The first time a player
is proven to be in violation of this rule, she will receive a warning and will be subject to extra running or
work as determined by the coach. On the second offense, she will be suspended for one game and will also
run. On the third offense, she will be removed from the team for a period of one year. At the end of that
time she may return, provided she has had no further violations in the interim.______________Initials
8. ATTITUDE—I understand and agree that my attitude will be exemplary (regardless of my playing time) at
all times and that I will put the team first, both in practice and games. I further agree that it is the sole
responsibility of my coach concerning my playing and/or practice time and that I will never question my
coach concerning these things at or during a game or practice. If I have a concern or question about anything
concerning myself or the team I will only address it at the appropriate time as determined by my coach. I also
promise that I will be loyal to my team and the coaches and that I will not complain to teachers or students
about issues regarding the team. I also agree not to post negative comments on Facebook ,or any other social
media, about my team or coaches. ____________Initials
9. PARTICIPATION IN NON-SCHOOL ACTIVITES – Any player who decides to participate in sports or
other activities that are not sponsored by the school will not be given an exemption from basketball practices
and/or games. It is not permissible for high school players to be a member of an outside team that plays other
sports on weekends or that practices during the school week during the basketball season.
10. HOLIDAY PRACTICES AND GAMES – Basketball season includes two holiday seasons: Thanksgiving
and Christmas. We recognize that these are both important, and times when families traditionally spend
time together. Unfortunately we cannot suspend basketball during the holidays. All players who commit to
playing on the team do so with the understanding that they will be at all practices and games including
holidays. We will not practice on Thanksgiving Day and will be off for five days surrounding Christmas
day. A complete practice and game schedule will be given out and it is important for each player and parent
to go over these to determine any conflicts and try to adjust to them. Note: Remember that any high school
player who misses a game or practice during the holidays will be unexcused.
11. SOCIAL MEDIA—Players agree to refrain from posting or participating in any form of social media that is
critical or otherwise detrimental to the overall girls basketball program.
12. PARENTS—by signing this agreement parents agree that they will not attempt to talk to any of the
coaching staff about problems or concerns at or during a basketball game or practice. The parent must call
the school office to request a conference with the coach, Athletic Director, and Principal, and may do so at
any time during the season. If a parent becomes upset or concerned about something, there must be a 24 hour
“cool down” period before a meeting will be scheduled.
 Practice Sessions: All practice sessions will be closed and parents and/or students will not be
allowed to attend without the express permission of the head coach.
Player Expectation Agreement
Page 3
 Games: Parents must also agree that they will not attempt to talk to any player while that player is on
the bench or in the game. This includes coaching from the stands or coming on the floor during
warm-up to advise or coach your daughter. It is important to cheer for your daughter, but she only
has one coach and that is who she should be listening to during games and/or warm-ups. This could
result in the head coach asking the player to leave the bench area and/or the game.
 Locker Room: The player dressing room area is OFF LIMITS to parents or family members and they
must have advance permission of one of the coaches to enter.

Parental Discipline: Parents should understand that if they choose to discipline their daughter by
keeping her from practices and/or games; that those absences will be unexcused.
FINAL NOTE TO PARENTS: The UIL does not require a player/parent agreement in any of the
interscholastic sports. This is provided to you as a courtesy with the hopes that there will be a
better understanding of what is expected for your daughter to participate in the Elysian Fields
basketball program. Please remember that rules and/or expectations are not limited to this
agreement, and that it serves only as a guideline.
