Women of pastoralist cultures for development
of entrepreneurship in sustainable tourism
intercultural seminar
Project Background:
The pastoralist cultures, characterized by their resourcefulness, ties with nature, family
values and mobility, are currently undergoing strong socio-economic transformations
all over the world.
Their traditions are being revived in the context of tourism. Within the profit-oriented
economy it might lead to an abuse of environmental, social and cultural resources.
Their youth find it increasingly difficult to combine their identity rooted in tradition and
the contemporary fashions. Lacking employment options at home, they are pushed
out to the centers of big towns.
This project aims to create innovative materials for youth entrepreneurial trainings. We
will look for inspirations among entrepreneurial women of various pastoralist cultures
who are involved in development of sustainable tourism and successfully combine
traditional values with modern demands.
