[email protected] / Village Feast Day Celebration
A reminder that the village of Charlton Horethorne will be holding a Feast Day Celebration on
Saturday 24th June. A Feast day is a day in the Christian calendar dedicated to particular saints.
Peter and Paul the patron saints of our Parish Church have been remembered jointly on the 29 th
June from the early days of the Church. Traditional Village Feast Day celebrations include an
array of activities, exhibitions and events all designed to promote community spirit whilst
having fun and raising money to support local causes.
The school are eager to play their part in this event! In addition to being the refreshment hub
for the village on the day where we will once more be serving our legendary cream teas, we
would like to celebrate the 130 years of our very special school’s existence by staging 130@130
on the Feast Day.
The plan is simple: at 1.30pm on Saturday 24th June we will be holding a sponsored walk/run
around a track on the school playfield to raise money for school funds, our aim being to
complete the distance of 130 km. Every child has been sent home with a sponsor form and we
would love as many to come on the day as possible to take part, as well as siblings (older or
younger) and parents, grandparents or anyone who fancies it. We are asking for sponsorship per
lap completed and every lap counts towards the grand total of 130km on the “giant lapometer”.
Children will be presented with130@130 Certificates upon completion and there will be some
extra prizes for the youngest and oldest participants, as well as some other fun categories.
In addition, we will be running a hamper raffle with the theme of “Local produce” to remain in
keeping with the ethos of supporting our local community. We are still requesting that any food
items to be donated to the hamper are left in the FSA kitchen at the back of the hall by Tuesday
20th June – remember our local shop has lots of local produce...
If you are able to help on the day we would be very grateful if you could add your name to the
sign up sheet which is on the window outside the school office.
Mission Statement:
At Charlton Horethorne our mission is to nurture, develop and educate our children in a happy, secure, caring Christian community.
At Charlton Horethorne CE Primary School the health, safety and well-being of every child is our top priority. We expect all staff,
governors, parent/carers and volunteers to share this commitment to safeguarding our pupils.
Please come along and support this event, bring the whole family. Every pair of feet helps us
reach our goal of 130km.
Friday 23rd June
As you know on Friday 23rd June we will be celebrating the 130th birthday of our school. We
now have a fun filled day planned, including the children experiencing a Victorian Classroom
and teacher! We are looking forward to seeing the children in their Victorian clothes.
We would also like the children to bring a ‘Victorian lunch’ for example; bread, cheese and an
apple.
The link below will take you to a very useful website although I wouldn’t advocate the potato
peelings and rotten vegetables for lunch on the 23rd!

Thank you
Once again we have had a fortnight of fab help from parents and grandparents. Thanks to
everyone who worked so hard to make our Secret Garden beds look so neat and tidy, to Mrs
Vaughan and her son for sourcing and laying the bark and to Mr Wareham for putting up all our
new display boards in the Hall. All your help is much appreciated.
The warmer weather
The weather continues to get hotter and hotter so please could you make sure your children
bring in a water bottle every day; it can be topped up from the water cooler in the kitchen as and
when necessary. Also a sunhat is essential at the moment and suncream should be applied at
home before school.
