The character I was going to model for my game would be one of the bone people, one of the many playable races in my game. I chose to model this specific character as it felt fitting as I have already made the environment these people would thrive in. To begin planning for this, I first realised what a generic character would look like of this race, and concluded they would look a lot like a stereotypical cowboy with a skeletal body to represent the harsh bonedryness of the area they lived in. From this I created a variety of different sketches. I created these sketches to get a basic idea of how I wanted this race to look, and once I asked around and got positive feedback on these I felt that the design was good enough for me to model. To prepare for modelling this character, I first made another sketch of the character’s front and side (but this time to scale) so that I could create a reliable image for reference so that I could reliably produce the character in 3 dimensions. When making these sketches, I had to put a few things into account. Firstly I had to make sure all the parts of the body like the head, torso, arms, legs, e.t.c all reached the exact same length. This was so that when I created a reference box for the character I would be able to seamlessly switch between views without having to waste time adjusting my model so that it would fit on the image. I also had to make sure I didn’t draw things like the characters hat, as it would be added after and I needed the basic body view so I could properly model the character. Once the reference sketch had been done, I began work on the model itself.
