V. REGISTRATION DEADLINE: Registration is on a first‐come‐first‐serve basis. All completed roster forms and fees must be submitted to Recreation Department by deadline dates. VI. SCHEDULE: The regular season will be determined by the number of teams who register. Coed league plays on Sundays between 11:00 am and 3:00 pm. VII. CANCELLATION POLICY: If a coach/manager calls the Recreation Department by 4pm on the Friday prior to a game, he/she may declare a forfeit without losing the forfeit fee. VIII. FORFEIT POLICY: GAME TIME IS FORFEIT TIME. If at least 4 (minimum 2 females) players are not ready to play by scheduled game time teams will lose all three matches and lose their $50 forfeit fee. In order to stay in the league a new forfeit fee must be submitted by Wednesday of the following week. Two forfeits will result in expulsion from the league. IX. INCLEMENT WEATHER POLICY: In case of inclement weather, players and coaches should call the Recreation Information Line one hour prior to the scheduled game for cancellation/reschedule information. Call 783‐3280 Pressing 9 for “Weather and Scores” Then 1 to “Weather Related Cancellations” ALL EFFORTS WILL BE MADE TO POST CANCELLATION INFORMATION TO OUR WEBSITE AND SOCIAL MEDIA HOWEVER PLEASE DO NOT RELY ON THIS. The same effort will be made to correspond via email so please be sure to check prior to your match. All weather related cancellations, will be made up at a date and time to be determined by the League Director. X. PLAYERS: A. Teams must begin and end games with at least four players but six is the normal number. B. Teams may never have more men than women on the court during play. However, a team may play with more women than men at any time. XI. GAMES: A. Teams will play three (3) games per match. All matches carry a one‐hour time limit. B. First team to score fifteen points (win by two) will be the winner. C. RALLY POINT SYSTEM WILL BE IN EFFECT IN THIRD GAME, IF NECESSARY. “Building a Community Through People, Parks, and Programs”

XII. BOUNDARIES: A. Boundary lines are considered in bounds. If a ball hits any part of the line, it is considered in bounds. B. With centerlines, player's foot may touch centerline but not over. C. Touching of volleyball poles is permitted only if touched during normal play. Holding on to pole for better leverage, is not allowed. D. Any time ball hits an obstruction, it is dead ball and considered out of bounds. XIII. THE SERVE: A. Choice of serve/court before game is decided by coin toss. Teams will switch sides after every 5 points scored. B. The score for both teams should be said out loud before each serve. Home team's score first followed by opposing team's score. C. Serve may be overhand, underhand or sidearm. Any ball hit into net on serve becomes automatic loss of serve. XIV. HITTING THE BALL: A. The ball can be hit by any part of the body above and including waist. B. Three hits maximum to each side of the net (one or two hits also allowed). C. Ball must be cleanly hit. NO CARRIES OR THROWS (open hand direction of the ball is not allowed, hand must be cupped or closed). D. When the ball is hit on the same side at least three times, one hit has to be by a female player. E. On returning a serve, the bump rule is mandatory. F. When blocking a shot, the same player may hit the ball twice (This constitutes one hit). G. If two players hit ball simultaneously, it is considered one hit, either player may then hit the ball a second time. H. SPIKING as defined in co‐ed volleyball only is that the intensity must be within the realm of good sportsmanship. Spiking must be on a gentlemen's level. SPIKING as defined in the POWER LEAGUE will not be condoned in co‐ed play. (Team captains should meet and discuss prior to game.) I. Back row may never enter the front row to spike or block a shot. BACK ROW CAN NEVER SPIKE THE BALL. XV. THE NET: A. Players cannot touch the net at any time and if infraction is committed, the player should raise hand to designate violation. B. Players cannot reach over the net except in two instances: 1) On the follow‐threw of an offensive shot. 2) In blocking a shot, provided the offense has made contact with the ball and is attempting to hit the ball over net (offense must be given the opportunity to hit the ball first). XVI. ADDITIONAL RULES: A. Each team is allowed two 1‐minute timeouts per game. B. Front row players may switch with front row players. “Building a Community Through People, Parks, and Programs”

C. Any rules not mentioned are in accordance with the USVBA Rules & Regulations. However, Milford Recreation Department rules overrule USVBA. D. The Recreation Department and City of Milford are not responsible for loss of personal articles that may occur. All participants play at their own risk. E. Players can participate in only one division within the co‐ed leagues. Either High Tide (competitive) or Low Tide (Recreational) and must be listed on only one roster. F. Please pick up after yourselves. Leaving litter behind may result in suspension or expulsion of offending player(s) or team. G. THE CONSUMPTION OF ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES IS PROHIBITED AT ALL CITY PARKS AND BEACHES. VIOLATORS ARE SUBJECT TO ENFORCEMENT BY THE POLICE. H. ANY ACT, VERBAL OR PHYSICAL THAT IS DEEMED UNSPORTSMANLIKE BY RECREATION DEPARTMENT MAY RESULT IN SUSPENSION OR EXPULSION OF OFFENDING PLAYER(S), AND/OR TEAM. I. THE DEPARTMENT OF RECREATION RESERVES THE RIGHT TO MAKE ANY DECISIONS IT FEELS TO BE IN BEST INTEREST OF THE LEAGUE AND/OR CITY OF MILFORD. XVII. REPORTING SCORES: Both teams are responsible for submitting scores to the Recreation Department by 10:00 am the following morning.
